Make Up Academy Lipstick
Advantages: Cheap and gorgeous range of colours.
I have been wanting to try the MUA range for absolutely ages, after hearing so many positive things about the brand on various blogs. If you haven't previously heard of it, it is a super cheap make-up range which can be found at Superdrug stores nationwide, or from the Make Up Academy website. Everything in the 'core' range, such as lipsticks, blushers, lip glosses, eye liners, and nail varnishes are just £1 each! So when I say a bargain make-up range - I really mean it!
I have recently been getting very interested in lipsticks, after being very wary of wearing them for quite some time. I always feared looking a little 'clownish' or wearing a colour that didn't suit me at all, but at just £1, you can definitely afford to experiment with your make-up looks.
Anyway, I decided that I would order four lipsticks from the Make Up Academy website. The site is extremely easy to navigate, so I soon found what I was after. They have around 16 colours to choose from so I'm sure there will be something for everyone. The only thing that I found a little annoying, is that there is no colour description to go along with each shade, and sometimes I find it difficult to determine what a shade actually looks like, when I am looking at it on a webpage. The lipsticks have numbers instead of names, and I really don't like that! I guess this is just personal preference, and is a relatively minor thing, but I find lipsticks to be so much more memorable when I can put a name to the shade.
The colours I ordered...
I picked four unique shades, which I thought were quite different to one another.
Shade 11 - A lovely reddish-brown shade, which is a perfect everyday shade as it is not too heavy.
Shade 2 - A beautiful bright fuchsia pink, which has a slightly berry finish on my lips.
Shade 7 - A peachy-pink shimmer, which applies quite sheerly but is build-able.
Shade 8 - An intense 'Hollywood' red with slight shimmer and sparkle.
If you have pale skin like me, then I'm sure that these lipsticks will work well for you too (although you might want to swatch them first).
I would say my favourite out of the bunch is shade 11, it has a natural sort of look to it, but it definitely enhances your lips a lot. I am just starting to appreciate these reddy-brown shades, and they can work beautifully with pale skin, think Kate Winslet in Titanic.
I was really pleased when I used these lipsticks for the first time, as they are wonderfully creamy and pigmented. I actually can't believe they are only £1, as they are just as good, if not better, than most of the high end products that I've tried. Most of the darker colours, such as 11, 7, and 8 are highly pigmented, so you don't need to use loads of product. I didn't feel any grittiness on my lips after application, which is something that I have always found really annoying! The staying power is also very good, I like to blot my lips after application, and that way they should last most of the day. I don't anyone would be disappointed with the formula of MUA lipsticks, they are not drying, and I really love the creamy consistency.
I think that the packaging is pretty basic overall, but this doesn't bother me in the slightest! Each lipstick comes in a little black tube, with the MUA logo printed on the side. I don't find the packaging to be too flimsy, but I have heard of some others having problems with the lipstick getting stuck in the tube when you twist the bottom. A nice little touch to the packaging, is that you can actually see the lipstick colour through the bottom of the tube. You can even take this section off, and there is more usable product in it. Some people have claimed that it is a lip balm, although I'm really not sure about that!
All in all, I would definitely recommend trying this range out, as for £1 you can't really go wrong. I was really pleased with all of my purchases, and I'll be shopping with MUA again in the future.
Summary: A brilliant bargain lipstick with a great formula.
