Make Up Academy Pressed Powder
Advantages: The price, it lasts really well
Disadvantages: None at all for me
As you may see from a previous review I have recently been trying the MUA (Make Up Academy) range of make up now available in Superdrug. One of my make up bag essentials is pressed powder to apply after my foundation, the brand I currently use is not overly expensive however when I spotted that MUA did their own pressed powder priced even cheaper than my regular brand I decided to give it a try, if I didn't like it then I hadn't wasted a lot of money and would just switch back to my original pressed powder.
The MUA Pressed Powder comes in a square clear plastic case, the top of the square lifts up as the lid and simply clicks back down in place. On the top of the lid is the name of the make up range MUA with Make Up Academy written underneath it, right at the bottom of the lid is written pressed powder, all of this information is in silver writing which stands out against the colour of the pressed powder which you can see through the clear plastic lid. The base of the pressed powder case has a small white sticker on it, this contains the shade of the powder which is given in numbers and also the ingredients, this is the only product information available on the back of the packaging. The case which the MUA Pressed Powder comes in really is quite plain and basic, however personally I was not too bothered about this
The MUA Pressed Powder looks just like a lot of others I have tried in the past, if you lightly rub your finger over the surface of the powder it has an almost creamy texture to it, it is not too crumbly and in my opinion is just the right texture, I always apply my powder with a brush, when I sweep the brush over the powder it does easily loosen the powder ready to use but does not cause it to crumble too much meaning that it goes everywhere making a mess and wasting it.
The MUA Pressed Powder comes in 4 shades, these do not have names but are just numbered with 1 being the lightest and 4 the darkest, whilst there are not a huge range of shades there is something for most people, although those with very dark skin may struggle a little with this range.
As I have mentioned I was drawn to this product purely because of the price, the 5.7g case of pressed powder cost just £1.00, I did wonder how good this would be because of the cheap price, I had visions of the powder wearing off within a couple of hours, personally I like my powder to last so that I do not have to keep touching it up during the day. However since I have been using the MUA powder I have been extremely pleased with how this lasts and it did not seem cheap at all.
I have been using the MUA Pressed Powder for a little while now, I decided to go with Shade 3 and this is the ideal shade for me, my skin is not overly dark at all and this is the third darkest shade, however this matched my skin perfectly so although I have only tried Shade 3 I would say that the colours are lighter than what they look. When I first tried the MUA Pressed Powder I was extremely pleased with firstly, how it covered, it glided smoothly over my foundation and left a matt and even coat which looks natural. Secondly I was pleased how well this powder lasted, I can apply it in the morning and it will easily last the whole day, I do not have to touch it up at all.
It was recently my Son Christening and because I had a lot to do I ended up having to apply my make up first thing in the morning, the Christening was in the afternoon however by the time it came round to the Christening my make up looked as good as when I first applied it and it didn't need altering at all.
The fact that the powder lasts so long makes it extremely economical, one case of powder lasts a long while and is well worth the money. This powder is so cheap to buy however the quality in my opinion does not match the price as it is of excellent quality. I will definitely continue to purchase this powder in the future and would recommend it to anyone, it is affordable, good quality and an essential in any make up bag.
Summary: A make up must for me
