      MUA Mystical Nail Polish

      Make up Academy (MUA)

I have heard of this range before when reading reviews, how-ever I have never actually looked at their range of products until recently when I was in my local Superdrug store. For Christmas I am doing a box for my sister which consists of beauty and make up products so I did literally browse nearly every make up range when in my local Superdrug store recently. I was looking for some specific eye shadow colours and I noticed some good colours in the MUA range. As I was looking at the eye shadows, I decided I would have a look at some of their other products as well. MUA's promise it to bring surprising quality, colour and fun innovation to each and very products it delivers, that doesn't cost and arm and a leg. The team at MUA are constantly thinking of ways of creating fantastic products that deliver great value. Inspired by playing with colour, there is something for everyone and with the introduction of the Professional range customers can buy amazing palettes, foundations and primers all for under £4. I have to admit that because this range of make-up is so cheap I was worried about the quality of the make-up and how good it would actually be. I ended up purchasing a dark eye shadow from the range for my sister and a glitter nail varnish for me. You can literally find any types of make up in the MUA range including Primer, Foundation, Powder, Bronzer, Eye-Liner, Eye Shadow, Mascara, Lip Gloss, Lip Sticks and more. All these items come in a large range of different colours suitable for everyone.

I purchased the nail varnish from my local Superdrug store for just £2.00 which is for a 6.8ml bottle of nail varnish.

      The Product

The nail varnish I am reviewing is new to the range and is part of the Mystical Glitter Nail Varnish range. The range has 4 different colours including Jellyfish (purple), Seahorse (light green), Mermaid (blue) and Starfish (Pinkish/Red colour). I love glitter nail varnishes at the moment, especially as it's coming up to the festive season. The Mystical Glitter Nail varnish is an enchanting range infused with subtle and holographic glitter. The stunning mystical shades look gorgeous layered over other shades from the MUA nail range or worn alone. I already have a few glitter nail varnishes but none in any of these shades. I decided to purchase the Mermaid colour which is a blue sparkly colour. The nail varnish comes in a round glass bottle with a black plastic lid, which is what hold the brush to apply the nail varnish with. The nail varnish bottle is small and only holds 6.8ml of the nail varnish. On the front of the bottle it states that this is made by MUA and that it's a glitter nail varnish. On the front of the lid is a round sticker which shows the colour of the shade and there is a smaller pink sticker that says 'new'. On the back of the bottle it tells you how to use the product and also lists the ingredients as well. It has the name of the colour of the varnish on the back of the bottle. You can clearly see the colour of the product in the bottle. The colour of the nail varnish I am reviewing is a darkish blue colour and I can see iridescent, blue and silver glitter particles in the bottle as well.

      Using the Product

Before using any coloured nail varnish I always use Barry M 3 in 1 basecoat to ensure that the colour doesn't stain my nails or leave them looking discoloured. On the back of the bottle is states that you need to apply 2 coats of the nail varnish for a full on glitter look of you can apply one coat over the top of your favourite nail varnish to give it a touch of glitter and sparkle. After applying the base coat and leaving it to try I shook the bottle and got ready to apply the nail varnish. The bottle doesn't have a ball bearing in the bottle so I shook it for a good 5 seconds to ensure it was ready to use. The long bit which holds the brush is very short, but this is due to the small bottle. The nail vanish has the typical nail varnish smell to it. When looking at the colour on the brush it looks much lighter than it does in the bottle. I applied one coat to my nails and could already tell I was going to need a good few coats on my nails before it looked any good. The nail varnish was easy to apply using the short brush and although there was a nice amount of glitter on my nails they didn't really sparkle much. I applied a 2nd coat after the 1st coat had dried which took a few minutes. I was still going to need at least 2-3 more coats before it looked any good on the nail so I decide I would take the nail varnish off and start again. On the bottle it suggests using the nail varnish over your favourite colour so I thought I would give this a go. I applied my favourite blue coloured nail paint (Barry M) and once this had dried I then applied a coat of the glitter nail varnish on top. As I painted the nail varnish on it looked great against the blue and sparkled. The glitter particles in the nail polish were very small and although my nails looked slightly glittery I thought one more coat would do the trick to make them even more sparkly. The nail varnish took a lot longer to dry on top of another colour than what it had on the base coat to my nails. After 3-4mins my nails felt dry, how-ever I could still make slight indents in the polish with the tip of my nails, so I left them try dry a bit longer. By this time I couldn't really be bothered to do a 2nd coat to make them look more sparkly and glittery so I just left my nails how they were.

When using the polish alone I would have had to apply at least 3-5 coats in order for the finished results to look decent and any good. I didn't have time to do this and I was getting a little fed up so I decided to scrap this option and use the polish over a favourite colour of mine. The results of this were just much better as although my nails were a dark blue the light still caught some of the small glitter particles which was nice as it was a very subtle sparkle. I did try taking a picture of the finished results; how-ever my camera couldn't pick up the glitter particles very well so you will have to take my word for it. In terms of the polish lasting, it lasts as long as the nail colour underneath the glitter polish which was approximately 3-4 days before it started wearing away at the top of the nails, probably due to me typing on a computer for most of the day. The nail polish was easily removed with a normal nail polish remover and cotton wool.

      Overall Opinion
      = = = = = = =
In terms for value I can't really complain much as it was a cheap nail varnish so I didn't expect, high quality, fantastic results from this. I wasn't, how-ever expecting to have to apply over 3 coats to make the nail polish look decent on bare nails. The polish works great on the top of another coloured polish and it does give a very subtle but light catching shimmer. If I was to buy any of the other glitter nail varnish in this range I would use it over another colour and not on its own. If you want a sparkly top coat to match the colour of your favourite nail polish then this is the perfect product for it as is cheap to. As it takes so long to achieve decent results when using the polish on its own I have to take a few stars off for this. Overall, an ok polish for some added sparkle.
