Astor Calligraphy Mascara
by baywatch_fan2002 Ghostly Groom & Comb Your Lashes Don’t brush your lashes, comb them. I thought every one would be talking about this new mascara, made by Coty, but the search engines which are usually bombarded with info upon info just seem to churn out German results. Though I did manage to find one bit of info about this and ... that is the fact that it is only sold in selected Boots stores. This mascara isn’t made by a German company, it is a French one. Made in Paris to be exact. People just don’t know what they’re missing out on. I thought Max Factor More Lashes had it all, but I was badly mistaken after trying Astor Calligraphy Length & Separation Mascara for the first time. It works wonders for tired, stuck together lashes, kicks them back into action for a gorgeous separated look. I had just collected some photos I had processed at Boots, when I decided to skim the shelves after seeing an advert in the window for a price reduction on the new Astor mascara, which I had seen advertised on TV. I couldn’t wait to get one off ebay, so I quickly grabbed a black one off the shelf. The only other colours available were browns. The tube is slightly thinner and smaller than most mascaras. It comes in a long, thin black tube with a weird shaped head. It is only available in size 4ml. The good thing about it is that it is ophtalmologically tested, so it should be kind to eyes. I’m guessing that O word has something to do with eyes anyway lol. It is quite pricey at £7.95, but because they had only just come out, Boots were selling them at £5.95 each. That is still expensive for me, but I don’t treat myself much, so thought I would on that occasion. I guess you could say I brought some rather expensive photos that day hehe. I can’t use this on it’s own. It doesn’t give off that much colour. But it is great for separating lashes. You apply it via a comb in stead of a brush. That’s a good idea I thought. On the tube it announces “High precision comb coats and stretches every lash from root to tip” Sounds a bit like combing your hair, if your hair was full of lashes lol. It feels strange when applying this. The comb is very small but very simple to use. I was scared incase it would hurt or pull out some lashes, but it works great. It doesn’t hurt at all unless you comb too hard. It adds black mascara as it combs through your lashes. You can truly feel your lashes being combed and separated. I only need to apply 1 coat and my lashes look divinely lengthened, but the colour isn’t too outstanding, so I only use this as a base to comb my lashes apart so they don’t stick together when using my other mascara. This mascara has been on the TV and advertised in Boots, yet no one seems to be talking about it. It isn’t selling on auctions so there will be no competition. But I definitely recommend this. Even if you don’t like too outrageous lashes, you will still benefit from this. Go on and give it a try. You’ll probably find it on ebay for a pound or something, so it’s not going to leave you out of pocket. Read the complete review |

Astor Calligraphy Mascara
by anrowan Calligraphy - more a drunken spider in an inkwell. I love mascara and apart from concealer for those panda like dark circles under the eyes, it is the one make up item I would not do without. I decided to try this one because of the new style brush, if you use mascara you're always on the hunt for a great brush. ... The brush isn't actually a normal brush but a comb which has fairly fine teeth, so far so good. I decided to try the brown shade 840 as I have fairly long lashes and black can be a bit harsh sometimes for the daytime. The colour is good not too red, but dark enough for definitionand the texture is fairly smooth and non drying. The disappointment!! In theory a great idea, but they need to redesign the packaging as the mascara remains all over the comb and despite wiping it off the along the edge of the tube remains too heavy resulting in thick gloopy lashses, great for those more gothic moments, less good for au naturel. To use it you need to remove as much mascara as possible and apply gradually from the ends of the lashes until there is less on the brush, then coat the roots. The comb is great for separating the lashes and I'm sure application will improve as the mascara dries in the tube, something you normally don't look forward too. The applicator will probably end up as a useful eyelash comb, but I'm sure it's cheaper to buy one. Great idea, needs refining Read the complete review |

Margaret Astor Perfect Finish Powder
by zusy Ever a sucker for a brand new product line (especially where make up is concerned) I was delighted to discover this new range on offer at my local Boots. I really wish I hadn't bothered. The Margaret Astor range has all the usuals - lipsticks, eyeshadows, foundations and the like, but I plumped for the Perfect Finish pressed ... powder, supposedly suitable for all skin types. I chose the very palest shade they had, 001, and off I trotted back home to slap on the slap. ...soon afterwards I was scraping it all back off again and scrubbing my face clean. This has to be the most deceptive powder ever - it looked pale in the shop, but back at home it magically turned my face tangerine coloured. The scent was overpowering - very old fashioned smelling, too, in a sort of chalky-faced Great Aunt giving you a whiskery kiss kind of a way. The coverage felt sooo heavy, even though I'd barely whisked the horrible stuff over my face, and looked it too. I had a glance at the tango-faced nightmare staring back at me in the mirror and decided I had wasted my money. I have tried using it again a couple of times since - I am not one who likes to give up on these things and admit I've made a mistake - but each time I've ended up washing it off again. The second time I used it, the entire lot crumbled into an orange powdery mess all over my bedroom carpet. I was not best pleased. The packaging is naff, too. Will I be buying this again? I'll leave that for you to work out! Read the complete review |
