“ Brand: Matalan / Available: Various colours / Type: Nail Varnish / Suitable for: Nails „
Matalan is best known for extremely cheap clothes and homeware. So when trying this nail varnish it must be considered from the very start that it probably won't be of as high quality as a branded item. However the product came in a fairly well decorated bottle which seemed promising so it was worth spending the little bit of money on it just to try. Applying a first layer, it seemed extremely thin, and the colour was not particularly visible. Two or three coats later and the polish was there, and it was near enough the colour expected when judging from the bottle colour. However about half an hour later I found myself still sitting there trying to stop the varnish from actually dripping off of my nail! In the end I removed it as it just wouldn't dry, even after a top coat was put on. But, perhaps for younger girls who don't usually paint their nails, it's a good thing to experiment with until pocket money stretches to the good polish.
When having a wander around our New matalan store, i had already spent a small fortune on clothes, and waiting in the queue, Matalan had very well strategiacally placed jewellrey, hair products and nail items. All in the hope that you spend an extra few pounds in the queue. Well i am a sucker and fall for these advertising schemes every time.
I saw this nail varnish at a bargain £1.50 and fell for the colour Sangria and bought myself a bottle.
It is essentially nail varnish and comes in a glass bottle containing 13ml of nail varnish. The glass is clear so that you are able to se the entire product inside. The only labelling you will find is a clear plastic square shaped sticker on the front with a silver 'G' encased within a sun like logo.
Sangria is a deep pink colour, almost fuschia like and has a slight metallic sheen to it within the bottle. The lid of the bottle is a silver coloured plastic and is roughly 1 - 1 1/2 inches tall with a plastic brush attached sitting in the nail varnish.
On the base of the bottle is a small round white sticker stating the address of Matalan should you need it, the amount in the bottle and also the symbol suggesting that the product be used within 18 months before opening.
Now i have used this product a few times and have found that on each occasion i have needed at least 2 coats. I try and prepare my nails as much as i can and use a clear base coat to try and prevent that horrible yellow staining on the nail itself that you can get from nail varnish.
The application itself is quite easy, the brush works well. I have never had any of the clumping of the varnish, which is good, but i find that 1 coat alone leaves a wishy washy finish and therefore have always applied to coats. I leave it at least 20 minutes between coats to allow the varnish to dry properly and then a further 2 hours or so before putting on socks, slippers or shoes.
Despite this i can guarentee within 24 hours i will have at least one nail when the varnish has chipped or scraped, not good even if it only cost £1.50.
Despite my nails looking manky because of it, i find it is time consuming for constantly having to reapply and so therefore i do not really rate this product.
Shame, because the finished colour looks quite attractive!!
2/5 for me!
