“ Brand: Max Factor / Type: Mascara / Suitable for: Eye „
Max Factor Aqua Lash mascara is something I remember buying for as long is ive used makeup, so its definately been around nearly 15 years now. Max factor have had many new ranges out since and this mascara still stays available so I can presume it is a firm favorite.
The packaging has remained the same throughout the years, it comes in a 9ml navy tube with gold writing stating the name of the product and a navy screw top with "mf" in gold writing on it. The tube and its cap altogether measure 12cms. On the tube all it says is that its a waterproof mascara and fragrance free. The mascara come in black and brown/black, I have the black.
The mascara brush is 2.5cms long and is densely packed with soft bristles, the maxfactor website calls it a "plush brush". When you remove the brush from the tube the mascara does not clump on the brush at all. Also of importance on their website it says the formular is suitable for contat lense wearers.
When you apply the first coat on your lashes instantly you see the the brush separates, enlongates and colours your lashes superbly. The definition this mascara provides is excellent, there is no clumping at all. The mascara also curls your lashes and because of the fantastic seperation of the lashes they look volumised too. It dried almost instanly so there is no smudging either. There is no mention on the tube that the mascara does all this either, there really should be! On adding a second coat the effects are doubled, and still no clumps!!
This mascara has worked excellently for me for years in rainy conditions but I thought for the purpose of this review id put my face in a sink full of water :) The result, dripping face but perfect lashes!!
Couple of little points though, you will need a good makeup remover to get rid of the mascara, it just doesnt like to shift, also if you get some on your eyes when applying its not that easy to remove it but a little eye makeup remover on a cotton bud should do the job.
The mascara costs 6.99 in boots which I think is fine for a mascara this great. Actually it may be the only mascara you ever need!
Just before my holidays I asked my friends if they knew of any good waterproof mascaras and one of them picked Max Factor aqualash up. I know that it definitely comes in brown and black, but I am unsure whether other colours are available. I use the black one and was very impressed with the results.
I was hoping that it would actually be waterproof, unlike previous mascaras I have tried, and was careful not to get my face too wet the first time I went in the pool as I had never properly tested it out before. Unfortunately I couldn't be too careful as I was in a pool surrounded by people jumping in and splashing. However, unlike the last time I wore mascara in a pool I did not emerge from the water looking like a panda - the mascara actually worked! And the results were very impressive! Not only did I not have black around my eyes, but my lashes still looked long and exactly the same as before I had entered the water!
The mascara is a good all rounder - it does not clog up and always comes out smoothly, obviously it passed the waterproof test and it made my lashes look longer and slightly curled. The mascara does come off with a good make up remover, but takes some time and if you don't remove it carefully enough, you may wake up the next morning with black eyes. Despite this, I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a good waterproof mascara. The product has never left clumps on my lashes either.
It comes in a clear plastic case, so no-one can use it before you buy it and says the name, make, and a very small description on the side in gold lettering and you can find the colour of the mascara on the bottom of the tube.
The mascara costs £6.99 from Boots and the look is easily made more dramatic by adding a second coat. The only problem I found with this was that I sometimes got more mascara on my eyes than my actual eyelashes, but that's probably more to do with my application techniques than the product!!
When buying mascaras I usually stick with Maybelline as their mascaras have always worked well for me in the past. This mascara (known as 'Aqualash') was recommended to me by a friend so I decided to give it a go.
The mascara costs £6.99 for 9ml, which is usually a little more than I spend on mascaras, but I was willing to give it a go as it is better to pay more for something that works than to pay a little for something that doesn't. The mascara is available in black, black / brown and navy. I chose black as this is the colour I always use. I usually wear waterproof mascara as I am prone to watery eyes and have had a few dodgy moments where I have ended up with black streaks down my face
The mascara claims to:
Allow easy application because of the design of the brush!
Fatten lashes by 200%!
Be ideal for swimmers!
The packaging is okay although not very eye catching, and it did take me a while to find as all the Max Factor mascara tubes look very similar. It does look very sleek and sophisticated though, this is a general rule with Max Factor products as they try to portray themselves as an up market, high quality brand.
The tube comes with no box and is navy blue in colour with golden writing along the side. The writing says 'Aqua Lash Mascara'. The ingredients are not on the side so if you suffer from any allergies it is best to ask at the counter. The website (www.maxfactor.co.uk) does say that it is safe for sensitive eyes and contact wearers, is ophthalmologist tested and fragrance free.
The brush is long and thin, this is not the kind of brush which is designed to volumise your lashes so it is best to use an eyelash curler before using it and / or to apply more than one coat to get the effect you want.
I was quite pleased with the way my lashes looked after I had finished applying. I usually find with waterproof mascaras that they do nothing to 'flutter out' your lashes and this is no different unfortunately. Although after I curled, reapplied and separated a few times the end result was very good. The mascara didn't clump at all which was great and the mascara lasts the entire day without leaving black dots on your face where it is wearing off. There is a disadvantage to this however come bedtime as it is quite hard to entirely remove it all! Unless you have a strong eye make-up remover you are going to be left with traces on your eyelashes.
Does it live up to it's claim?
Allow easy application because of the design of the brush! - The brush does allow for easy application as it is long and it enables all the lashes to be covered with only a couple of 'swoops'. Most people will probably want to reapply however, so it is not necessarily a quick application. Its shape means it picks up just the right amount of product from the tube and it didn't flick everywhere, leave clumps or smudge.
Fatten lashes by 200%! - It did fatten my lashes, but to be honest all mascaras do that anyway! The test of a good mascara is how much it lengthens your lashes not necessarily widens as no one wants to end up with clumpy, spidery eyes.
Prevent clogging! - There was no clogging or clumping.
Be ideal for swimmers! - I have used this to go swimming in. I found that generally it stays on really well, but it does some times leak a little under your bottom lashes. I've used it in the shower too and it was fine then, proving that it lives up to it's waterproof claim.
A good mascara. If you are looking for a waterproof mascara then this is a very good one. It doesn't do much in the way off volume though so it's best to choose another for night time use. I have bought cheaper waterproof mascaras than this that have worked just as well however so it may be worth looking around to find a cheaper one.
