Advantages: Clean and easy to apply, definitely smudge-proof, value for money

Disadvantages: Plastic seal around the tube which took ages to remove

At last, after many years searching, I think I have found what must be the only mascara that does not leech on to the skin making me look like a very tired panda.

Max Factor's 2000 Calorie Mascara, manufactured by Proctor and Gamble, stays exactly where it is put yet is easy to remove with cottonwool and simple baby lotion or eye make-up remover.

I paid the recommended retail price of £7.99 in Superdrug and it is readily available in many other pharmacies and some supermarkets and department stores. This is usually more than I would spend on a mascara but, having wasted money in the past on cheaper products only to be disappointed and irritated at the feeling of being ripped off, I think it is well worth the money.

I chose Black but the mascara also comes in Brown and Brown/Black so there is a shade to suit everyone.

The tube is navy blue with gold lettering which claims the mascara to be smudge-proof and to give 300% more volume. While I would not vouch for 300% increased volume, it does thicken and lengthen the lashes to a degree with which I am happy. It goes on smoothly and easily without clumping or splashing and the brush is substantial in size, bristles and shape. I am fed up with the new-fangled mascara brushes in some other mascaras which look like plastic combs and are not capable of delivering the product to the lashes without splashing on to the surrounding skin. The smudge-proof claim, I was delighted to find, is spot-on and that, to me, is what I expect of a smudge-proof mascara.

I will not even try another make of mascara now that I have found Max Factor's but I will try their other types of mascara - they have quite a range to choose from and I would be interested to know if they are all of the same reliable quality.

Summary: Excellent value for money. I will only buy this mascara from now on

Rosies Mum - I remove my make-up with the Co-op's own baby lotion which I think is better than anything else I've tried! And it costs less than £1.

I don't understand the name of the mascara either!

I like the brush on this mascara but I do find it a struggle to remove every night.

I've never really liked Max Factor products. Sam
