I have found a recent love for lipsticks, and one in my collection is this Max factor colour collection. I purchased mine in rosewood which I find is a lovely warm pink colour. It is very neutral, and I find that it matches my skin tone very well. There are a number of different shades available and they range from reds, to pinks to darker browns. The colours are true to the swatches available in store before you purchase them, which is great as I hate when a lipstick turns out to be a completely different shade than I had hoped. The casing is very plain in the colour black nothing fancy, but it is a good size to hold in your hand while you apply it. It looks nice enough that I do not mind pulling it out of my handbag while I am out. The casing is also a fair size so that it is easy to apply, and I am able to get a fair grip on it.
What I love about this is it is so creamy it glides on the lips perfectly. I only need to push it over my lips gently and the colours transfers with ease. It takes a few seconds to apply and the first coat of colour looks amazing. The lip stick sits on my lips really lightly; I can almost forget it is there completely. It does not dry my lips out at all I find if anything it actually helps keep them soft while I am wearing it. I find you need to make sure you have no dry areas on your lips before I apply it or it will highlight them.
There is no shimmer to these lipsticks at all but the light does reflect of the colour giving it a lovely finish. It gives a lovely pigmented colour, but the colour is a lovely nude shade so it is a great balance.
I usually find that my lipstick will transfer from my lips to my cup (I drink way too much tea) which means it has faded before I even leave the house in the morning. This did transfer some residue on to my cup but when I looked in the mirror the colour was just as noticeable as before. I am also a smoker so this usually has a huge negative effect on the lasting power of lipsticks but again it holds up very well.
The best feature of this lip stick is the staying power. It lasts extremely well even after I eat lunch it is still highly visable. I find that I do not need to replace it until late in the day which is great. I do find it starts to fade a little patchy so I tend to top it up as it begins to fade rather than when it is on its last legs.
The finish to this lipstick is lovely; it produces an even finish with just one stroke which I find near impossible with other lipsticks. Also the finish is amazing it is not sparkly at all yet has a lovely pearl shimmer to it. I find it is perfect for day to day wear as it can be very natural, however if you add an extra coat to your lips you can wear it out in the evening for a more glam look. It does this without you looking like a child that has used too much of your mothers lipstick. Although it has great staying power it is very easy to remove.Using either face wipes or cleanser the lipsticks comes off extremely easily without staining the lips at all. Also, I find that as well as feeling lovely and soft on my lips it does not dry them out once I remove it. This is a major advantage for me as I find most lipsticks to be drying as I have sensitive lips.
As you do not have to keep reapplying this lipstick every five minutes I find that the tube lasts well. I have owned mine for months and although I do not use it every day it does receive a fair amount of use from me. I still have half of the lipstick left so I am hoping it will last until Christmas when I shall add this to my wish list. I hate lip products that have a scent to them. I find being that close to my mouth and nose, contently smelling something is a huge no for me. This product does have a slight scent while still on the stick but once transferred on to your lips it disappears.
I love this lipstick and although it is not my favourite it is one of the best in my collection. The colour is lovely, really pigmented and the longevity is fantastic. This is one of the best lipsticks I own for staying put no matter what I do through the day. It is widely available from stores such as boots, and for the £7 asking price it lasts forever.
If you cannot tell already I would highly recommend this product to anyone. I trust max factor to provide me with great quality products and this is certainly no exception. At the retail price of £7 I believe this lipstick gives high quality finishes for a bargain price what more could you ask for?
I usually save up and go out and get my bits of required make-up all in one go, when most are coming to the end of their shelf life. I find it easier to put together a new look shopping this way, and find that you are also more likely to find offers on when purchasing multiple products.
One this one occasion, when I found a few various MaxFactor products to suit my needs for that particular shopping trip, there was an offer on, where spending a certain amount on that make of product meant getting a free gift!
I love a free gift, as much as the next girl, but I have to say, these free cosmetics gifts/sets often include a few substandard products they aren't averse to giving away for free, often in colours I wouldn't dream of wearing and would never buy again (not meaning to sound ungrateful!)
Luckily for me, on this occasion, the gift bag was full of goodies which I found to be of great use; the products given were of fantastic quality and although someone was looking down on me, all the colours of the products provided suiting my skin tone perfectly!
One of the products which came in this bag was a miniature 'MaxFactor colour collections lipstick' in the colour 'Raisin'. I have to say, it did look a little dark for my liking on first glance, but upon application I fell in love with it!! I have porcelain skin, and I like to wear little make-up other than a light smoky eye and an eye catching lip colour; this lip colour was exactly that! And the rich scarlet/rose style colour, suited my porcelain skin, as if this product was made for me!
The colour is as I say, a beautiful rich colour, which gives lips a thoroughly even coverage at at first swipe! I found it lasted with great longevity, especially compared to other makes which I had used in the past, which offered this kind of longevity, but had never delivered.
I also suffer with very dry, flaky lips, and some brands of lipstick only seem to dry them out even further, making them sore and chapped. I was very impressed to find that this wasn't the case with this lipstick, on the contrary, I actually have found it very nourishing, and have been known to use this product, as oppose to vaseline and lip balms, when my lips are getting a little dry.
As you may guess from my raving review, I soon polished through the free sample I was given and quickly set out to buy the a new, full sized version, hoping desperately that it hadn't been a discontinued item.
And phew.....Thank god it is a product still going strong and widely available, to my relief.
You can go and get yours at Boots for £7.99 earning you 28 advantage points. And its available oin a wide range of colours if Raisin isn't for you. Alternatively it is £6.99 at Superdrug and will earn you 6 points there.
And remember to look for any free gift promotions....you may just find your own, made in heaven, mini product!
I have recently been testing out numerous different lipsticks from many brands as of yet I have failed to get the perfect balance of both miniaturisation and colour intensity/ colour range from a lipstick. The latest one that I have tried is this one from the Max Factor colour collection of lipsticks. I originally had this in a tester a few years back, however did not like the colour so decided not to use it, though knowing that Max Factor is a well recognised brand often with high quality items I decided to purchase a full size lipstick in a colour that I liked.
==~~Price and Availability~~==
This item costs £7.99, which I think is fairly reasonable for a lipstick. It is available in the likes of Boots and Superdrug's, along with some larger supermarkets that have now started to sell make up. I tend to purchase most of my make up from Boots as I can collect advantage card points and they also often have 3 for 2 or discount offers on.
I normally find Max Factor to have quite a large range of lipsticks, though I was a little disappointed. I am not sure whether it was because I went to my smaller local Boots that they had a smaller range of the fact that Max Factor have only released a few colours as after looking on the Boots website they currently only have five shades available. Most of the colours that were available when I purchased mine were all quite pink or brown tones which all seemed to be rather nude based. I do find that Boots' lighting is often hard to test a makeup product under, though actually found that most of the shelf stickers were fairly accurate to the shade in which the lipsticks came out when tested. In the end I decided upon one called 'English Rose 510' which is a pale, pearly pink colour that almost has a glaze finish. Personally, I was a little underwhelmed by the colour range and although they were all quite nice and differ quite a lot from shade to shade, it would have been nice to have a little more option, especially as this range is called 'Colour Collection'.
I often tend to buy make up products on their packaging, especially that of lipsticks. I found the packaging of Max Factor to very simple, it is simply a black case with 'Max Factor ' written on it and although I often find simple looks to very effective, I have to say I really did not like the packaging. It is not something that I would have necessarily purchased just upon the packaging and personally found it a little boring looking.
==~~Applying the lipstick~~==
This lipstick applied very well to the lips and I was very impressed with the smoothness of the lipstick. It felt incredibly soft to apply and really glided across the lips. It felt very much like a lip balm to apply in that it felt moisturising, though did not have the same greasiness or heaviness that some lip balms can have. I found that even when I first applied the lipstick that it was fairly opaque and was not at all a sheer colour, which I had almost expected due to it being a pale, pearly pink colour.
I was also pleased to find that the lipstick was not at all cakey when applying and even when my lips were a little dry this lipstick did not cake around that area. I found that this lipstick was very easy to build up the intensity of colour due to it being a very opaque colour in the first place. I really loved the glaze this lipstick had on it as it was not all shimmery or glittery and although it looked slightly shiny, it was not the same sort of shine that is achieved when using a gloss. Due to this finish the colour did not really seem matte, though it was definitely a block colour with no glitter or anything similar in it.
I really liked the end colour of this lipstick, despite the colour being very pigmented and opaque, the pink was still subtle and the pearly tones to it made it look really soft. Despite the colour looking quite nude based when on my hand, when applied to my lips the colour seems to be much more amplified and the colour is definitely pink opposed to that of a nude pink. I did find that the intensity of this colour did look a little odd when worn in the winter when my skin is at its palest as it seemed to wash me out a little, though when worn in the summer months with a tan it really complimented my skin tone.
This lipstick is extremely soft to wear and almost feels moistening. It does not have the same nourishing factors that a lip balm would; nonetheless is extremely creamy on the lips. Despite the lipstick having a very creamy texture, it was not all heavy in the way and was in fact quite the opposite and instead felt incredibly light.
The only thing I was a little disappointed in with the lipstick was the longevity. Due to the high intensity of colour I found that it faded very quickly and soon lost the very pigmented look. Unfortunately it only lasted on my lips for around 2 hours before I needed to reapply the lipstick. Despite this, I was pleased to find that the lipstick did not feather or smudge in anyway and so although it faded rather quickly, it remained looking neat.
Overall, I did really like this lipstick, in particular the creamy way in which it applied and the pearly intensity of the colour. Nonetheless this lipstick was not without its faults and in this case it was that of the colour range and the longevity of the lipstick. As far as the colours going as far complimenting skin tones I am still a little unsure as despite picking a colour that was supposedly meant to compliment my skin tone, I found this colour very hard to wear and found it looked best on me with a tan. I think that if this lipstick had lasted longer on my lips then I would have much preferred it to what I do and for this reason can only award the lipstick 3 stars.
Max factor colour collections lipstick
The Max Factor Colour Collections is a range of lipsticks that are categorised according to the skin tone that they suit. There is a selection of nudes, pinks, mauves and reds which are selected to compliment the skin tone, whether it be fair, medium or dark. I bought the lipstick and then after a general web search found that there were a few websites which gave ideas as to how to select the lipstick which suits my skin tone- fortunately it seems I had bought the right lipstick, Dusky Rose for medium skin tones.
Available in: Fair Skin - Angel Pink, Plush Blush, Soft Suede, Rosewood, English Rose, Raisen, Hint of Red, Orange Shine, Bronzed Glow and Mocha Latte; Medium Skin - Maple, Marsh Mellow, Dusky Rose, Flame Tree, Pearl Orange, Bewitching Coral, Sunbronze and Amber; Dark Skin - Midnight Mauve, Night Valley Red, Chilli, Intensely Red, Copper Penny, Penny Candy and Coffee Toffee.
The lipstick sells for around the £8 mark, but it's worth shopping around for offers.
The lipstick itself comes in black casing with Max factor written on the side and not a lot else. Whe applied it does glide on easily and gives my lips a nice shiny colour and makes them feel smoth and moist. I find that unlike some lipsticks the colour on this one doesn't seem to "break up" but rather lasts as an even coverage on my lips. It does seem to moisturise my lips without too much stickiness although as I tend to use lip gloss I do find lipsticks quite heavy and am aware that I am wearing them. This one however doesn't seem to have a real heavy feeling although I do tend to apply lip gloss over the top for a bit extra shine if I am going out.
The colour of the lipstick is quite subtle and does match my skin tone, so although I have got lipstick on, it doesn't look completely at odds with my skin and is quite subtle. It is easy to apply, and leaves my lips feeling nicely moisturised. It's not especially long lasting and if I have a drink the lipstick does come off on the cup or glass, something which I hate! However, if I avoid eating and drinking it does stay put for several hours.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants a subtle lipstick with enough shine to enhance lips but with no stickiness which I often equate with shine.
A nice lipstick.
Thanks for reading
I am always trying new lipsticks because i've had trouble finding one with great colour that doesn't fade. This led me to try Max Factor Colour Collections Lipstick. I bought this from boots and it was £7.99 which is more than i'd usually spend on a lipstick but i thought i'd give it a try anyway. At boots this is available in 5 shades, but i'm not sure if it's available in more shades elsewhere. One very useful thing about this lipstick is that it tells you which shades will suit your skin tone. I own 'bewitched' which is red, and 'english rose' which is a pale pink. It comes in a black square case with 'max factor' written on it in silver, and i think that the casing is very classy looking and looks nice in my make up bag.
It was easy to apply the lipstick and the colour went on very easily. More to the point, it looks great on and I have received loads of compliments on this lipstick. It also lasts all day and doesn't ever really need touching up, which is something i have been searching for. It was also easy to remove with a tissue at the end of the day. This lipstick answers all of your lipstick needs and i'll definitely buy it again.
I am a big fan of Maxfactor when it comes to quality for example with their mascaras which I think really are the bees knees.
I am also a big fan of lipsticks and feel very grown up and womanly when I wear them. I've found that a lot of my friends barely touch lipsticks (unless they are nude ones to go with smokey eyes) and would rather just go for a coloured pretty lipgloss. So out of my friends, lipstick wearing me can stand out from the crowd which is something I do relish in because it makes my look look a bit different and more daring. I've found with a lot of lipsticks the same universal problems that everyone seems to face; this goes from fading, sticking to dry skin and the dreadful outline you get after eating and drinking. These problems led me to me to only wear lipsticks on special occassions or certain days out where I knew I could constantly keep an eye on my lips. But this frustrated me because I wanted to look classy at work with lipstick and was desperate to find one which had the impact and staying power I wanted.
All hail Maxfactor's Colour Collections Lipstick range, this is my number 1 lipstick range and for me it ticks all the boxes. I currently own four shades Sugared Pearl, Hint of Red, Angel Pink and Angel Rose which all look really nice against my colour. The great thing about this range is that it shows you the shades which compliment fair, medium and dark skin tones, which has been a great help to me considering I'm quite pale and can sometimes be a bit too daring with colours. This colour guide has helped me experiement whilst using shades that really suit my colouring.
Price wise (and I always forget exact prices), I believe came out at £6.99 and considering the love I hold for this lipstick I do not mind the price at all. The look of it is also very pleasing it's a black squarish casing with 'Maxfactor' written in silver on the back.
Regarding shades which are all really lovely, I will only review 804 Hint of Red purely because this is by far my favourite shade. The colour of this red (with a slight sparkle) lipstick is absolutely gorgeous and incredibly flattering if you have pale skin. I wore this shade at work and so many people complimented me this included work colleagues and customers (some who I thought would never compliment me about anything). Even my boss gave me praise on how nice it looked and in my last sit down review with him said I should wear this colour everyday as a power colour to increase my confidence in my work role (which to be fair it has). He told me that when I wore this colour it made me look professional and really stand out. When you hear such praise on how nice you look from a male Geordie boss then this lipstick must be doing something right???
Application was so easy, I often (when I need to) touch it up without a mirror on and the colour goes on very evenly. I first put on a layer on my lips and then pressed them with tissue before dusting a light layer of powder over the top. Then I put on another layer to really build up the colour and away I went. I constantly check my lips at work due to habit and rarely needed to touch them up, if I did need to only a little bit was needed to keep the colour even and strong. This lipstick was an absolute godsend at work (where I am a receptionist and am constantly on show to people). The lipstick didn't make me feel paranoid about if it was fading and I would just have a quick check on my lips after something casual like popping to the bathroom.
In conclusion this lipstick is brilliant in all it's shades and it's staying power. If you want a seriously glam and gorgeous shade that is gona turn heads and make you feel great then buy the Hint of Red colour to really pack a punch. Overall this lipstick made me feel really confident and because of all the nice compliments I got (remember I'm not a supermodel or a make up pro I'm just a normal girl) I just felt fantastic and I will definately be buying this until they stop making this...touch wood they don't.
