Stays on great and keeps the lips moisturised.

~~ Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipstick - 833 Rosewood ~~

I bought this lipstick from the Boots Max Factor counter in February 2012. I enjoy shopping during the offer's season and Max Factor had an amazing offer at the make up products. So, even though I paid full price for the lipstick (£7.99), I got a very pretty gift box with Max Factor product samples (one mascara, 2 nail polishes and a pencil eyeliner) and one additional nail polish from the "Mini Nail Polish" product line.

      ~~ The lipstick ~~

The Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipstick comes in 15 shades:
English Rose, Sunbronze, Firefly, Raisin, Angel Pink, Midnight Mauve, Mulberry, Pink Brandy, Pearl Maron, Bewitching Coral, Ruby Tuesday, Chilly, Burnt Caramel, Rosewood, Dusky Rose.

I own this lipstick in 833 ROSEWOOD. Rosewood is a warm, dusky brown and pink tones, with creamy finish. It belongs to the brown-based shades of the lipstick line.

      "The formula"
Max Factor claims that the lipstick's "Elixir Formula" contains a 60% blend of shea, avocado and aloe butters, as well as anti-oxidant white tea. Those ingredients improve the moisture, and they make the lips look softer and hydrated.

      ~~ Texture ~~

The texture of this lipstick is smooth, light and creamy. On application it covers well and feels soft, plus, it benefits the lips. It's very pigmented, it helps to keep my lips moisturised and smoothened. The lipstick doesn't have shimmer in it and although it's creamy, it has a non-sticky matte finish. The smell is lovely, it has a light vanilla scent which makes it probably one of the best smelling lipsticks that I've used.

      ~~ Packaging ~~

Maxfactor Elixir lipsticks come in a sturdy, gold finish casing with the Max Factor logo printed on the side. The square packaging with the golden top is very attractive and it looks classy and stylish. The size of the tube is slightly larger than the average tube of lipstick.

The lipstick base is transparent, exposing the tone of the lipstick through the plastic tube. I find this particularly convenient because I don't have to open the lipstick to see the shade every time I am looking for a specific colour for my makeup.

The lipstick is very easy to use, after you remove the golden lid you twist the base and the lipstick is revealed. The Max Factor's "X" logo is also shaped on the side of the lip stick as well.

      ~~ My experience ~~

This is the lipstick that I wore to my graduation. It's not glossy or very shiny, the result is matte and the creamy texture makes it look very natural and pretty. Now I am using it as my everyday lipstick. The Rosewood shade is great for my morning make-up and it gives me a nice natural look. On application it feels very natural without the stickiness of other creamy lipsticks that I've used in the past.

Application is very simple. I apply it directly to my lips and I don't use a brush applicator for it. As the lipstick glides on the lips, it releases a good amount of product from the first application. I want to keep the lipstick intact all day, so I shape my lips first with a neutral lip liner. Then, I apply the first layer, I put some face powder on top to matte the colour out and I apply one more layer to get a deep and long lasting colour. One layer is enough to complete a natural, light morning makeup, but I always want to achieve deep and rich colour so I usually apply a second layer as well.

I used to put lip-gloss on top of the lipstick, but I realised that the colour didn't last and I had to re-apply multiple times during the day. Therefore now, I prefer using a creamy lipstick with good staying power, that doesn't make my lips look dry.

The staying power is satisfying and during a regular day it lasts from early in the morning until lunch time, but I've noticed that it needs to be touched up after drinking or eating. Also, I never had bleeding problems with this product and overall I am really pleased with it.

I will give this lipstick 4 out of 5 because it has good staying power, the colour is very pretty and the matte finish is ideal for every day use. The quality is very good for the price and I think it's worth trying!

      ~~ Availability and price ~~

The Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipstick is priced at £7.99 and it's quite affordable considering its quality. It is available at all Maxfactor counters in Superdrug, Boots etc.

      Thank you for reading!
