Max Factor Facefinity
Advantages: Give a lovely flawless finish to the complexion
Disadvantages: More of a powder than a foundation and not many shades available
I am quite particular about the foundation products which I purchase. I am not particular however about 'hand me downs' and I was recently the beneficiary of a badly chosen foundation shade by my face. She had chosen one that was too pale for her complexion... So sometimes it does pay to be pale!
What does the product do?
The product promises to give the skin a long lasting flawless finish while also protecting and hydrating the skin. It comes in the convenient form of a compact so it can be applied on the go, yet it promises to give the coverage and finish of a liquid foundation. What's even better for those with oily and spot prone skin like mine is that it is both oil and fragrance free.
The product doesn't come in a vast amount of shades which is probably how my friend made her mistake. I can't see how a foundation product can only come in a small number of shades as everyone's skin is so different. This one only comes in seven shades with Porcelain being the lightest and Toffee being the darkest. The rest of them range in the middle. My friend gave me Ivory which was too pale for her but fine for me.
How do you use the product?
You need to moisturise the face before applying this product. You then use the provided sponge to smooth the product over the skin of the face, taking particular care around the hair and jaw line, and then blending the product in with the fingers. It can be used alone or on the top of a foundation as a finishing powder.
Packaging and Price
The packaging looks extremely classy and expensive, and it is something that I am proud to be seen using in public. It resembles the old Pebble mobile phone (I'm not sure if anyone else remembers it?) and it has a golden shimmering flip top lid. Inside you will find a mirror attached to the lid, and then a square of the foundation. Beneath the foundation is the white sponge which which you can apply the product. The compact is sturdy and will give the product safe inside and prevents it from getting broken. The product will cost you around £10. It can be bought from department stores such as Boots or Superdrug, large supermarkets and also from a variety of online websites.
Application and Performance
I think this product has got a little confused about its purpose in life. Although it is advertised as a foundation, I don't think it could be used effectively in this way. The product has a creamy/powdery consistency which only gives a sheer coverage alone. This may be fine for the brave people amongst us but I suspect this will be not be enough for the majority. When used in this way it doesn't cover imperfections, but it does look natural and I think this would be a lovely way to use it during the summer months when my skin is clearer and I want something lighter on my face. It also contains SPF 15 so my skin is protected from sun damage to - bonus! You need to ensure that your face is well moisturised before using the product in this way as it will highlight dry or flaky skin.
I use the product on top of my usual foundation as a finishing powder. And what a finishing powder it is! On top of a foundation, it gives the perfect amount of addition coverage giving me skin a flawless but natural finish. It leaves me looking shine free and thanks to the oil free formula, I stay shine free for quite a while after application. Thanks to the handy compact, reapplication is simple. The product itself stays put for a long time and I will still look quite fresh even at the end of the day. The product doesn't leave my skin feeling dry or caked in make up and although I can feel it on my skin, it isn't uncomfortable. It hasn't caused me to develop any blemishes or irritations on my skin and the product is easily removed using my usual make up remover.
All in all, if you are using this as a foundation then you need to have pretty good skin and only be looking for a sheer finish. If you are using this as a finishing powder, you can't go far wrong. It offers additional coverage, a flawless finish and it keeps shine at bay. It is easy to reapply, feels nice on the skin and it hasn't caused me to develop any blemishes. I would recommended this product as a finishing powder and when mine is gone, I will repurchase another of my own.
Summary: A foundation/powder which gives the skin a flawless finish
