Advantages: Beautifully bold, thick eye lashes to flutter at everyone.
Disadvantages: Not for people who already have very long eye lashes, like me!
I have been a fan of Max Factor's Masterpiece Max mascara for quite a while now, however I don't wear it quite often. A bold mascara isn't suitable for my eyelashes on a day to day basis, just sat in the office at a computer all day, and so I can't justify paying that much. When I saw all the recent advertising campaigns for this mascara, I was certainly drawn in. The claims of 'full lashes' whilst having a more natural look sounded great, and there seemed to be quite a bit of hype around it. However I had recently just bought another Benefit Bad Gal mascara to keep me going on weekends, so couldn't really bring myself round to paying more money on another mascara...
I am a member of the Amazon Vine programme, each month I receive an e-mail with a list of products to try out and review, this ranges from books to make-up, and even hair straighteners and toothbrushes. This month I was pleased to see Max Factor False Lash Effect mascara on the list, I could finally try this one without paying for it.
So first impressions, the packaging although quite simple, gives off a sleek and 'posh' image to this mascara. It's quite 'wide' in appearance compared to usual mascara tubes, again giving off images of boldness and volume, important factors in a mascara like this. Indeed the only text on this mascara gives of the product name and 'Full Lashes, Natural Look Mascara,' and some small print on the back stating the manufacturer and how you get 13.1ml of mascara for your money.
After unscrewing the brush for this mascara, I was quite surprised at the size of the brush head itself. It's quite large and one of those 'spiky' brushes rather than the usual bristle style ones. I was a bit skepitcal when I noticed this as these sorts of brushes usually make my eye lashes look more like spider legs, without any volume.
Despite the surprising size of the brush, it was very easy to apply this mascara. The brush slide through my lashes evenly, it helped seperate them out and it didn't leave any clumps behind in my lashes, perfect!
The only downside I could see with this brush is that the clumpy bits of mascara you usually get on the very end of the brush were much bigger than usual, because the brush was bigger! Not too much of a problem though, as it's easy to scrap off the excess back into the tube.
I should point out now that I have very long eye lashes. I often get people exclaiming how nice and long my lashes are (apart from my Opticians who has to hold them out of the way to look into my eyes!) and people often ask if I am wearing false eyelashes, which I don't. So for those reasons, I aim for volume only mascara's and not one which will make my lashes appear any longer.
The False Lash Effect mascara DID make my lashes longer in appearance however I was immediately impressed with the volume this mascara gave my lashes! They looked bold and beautiful, and certainly clump-free. My lashes do seem to come across more 'fake' in appearance though, but this is only down to me having long eyelashes in the first place. I was amazed to see how much thicker this mascara made my eye lashes, and they looked so perfect and fluttery.
If you have short and stubby eyelashes this mascara is certainly for you. If however you're like me and blessed with lovely long lashes, it's probably best sticking to another volume only mascara as this does make your lashes even longer in appearance.
This mascara is certainly one for the weekend or if you're out in the evening. For me I won't be wearing it around the office but I am very pleased with it. All day long my lashes were long, fluttery and full of volume. It didn't streak or smear, and it doesn't smudge easily unless you're really rubbing your eyes! At the end of the day it's even easy to remove using your make-up remover, so I can't fault this mascara in anyway.
The price of this mascara is a whopping £10.99, however I can not stress enough that this is really worth the price tag, and is a mascara to save for special occasions. Go on, treat yourself to some lovely bold eye lashes!
Summary: This mascara really lives up to the claims it makes, giving you bold lashes.
