Advantages: Nice packaging, big 'wand' for applying.

Disadvantages: Makes little difference and tends to smudge.

My entire motive for wearing mascara is to achieve what could be described as 'the 'false lash look', (i.e. eyelashes that curl dramatically without the crusty clumpy mess I usually to achieve when using mascara that promises such a feat), and on hearing upon the release of a new Max factor mascara, I must admit I was thrilled!

Believe me I am no make-up expert, but I cannot describe enough my love for their previous 'Masterpiece' and even more so 'Masterpiece Max' mascara finding that they both defined and lengthened my lashes significantly giving a subtle yet intense effect, and what's more it wasn't for a ridiculous amount of money. They genuinely seemed a cut above the rest, especially considering that although my eyelashes are dark, and to some extent long, they are entirely poker straight.

So, you can understand why I was so pleased about the new addition to this mascara family, it seemed exactly what I was after! Although the packaging was not as special as the Masterpiece's gold 'tubing', I did appreciate that they chose a nice 'plump' looking design because it fit in with the idea of volume and was quite easy to handle. And again, although it wasn't exactly a bargain it was not too much of a stretch price-wise at around £8-10 (being new I think I purchased it from Boots as some kind of special introductory price). Part of me also thinks that as I did spend that little bit extra my hopes were raised a little too high, and I expected it to be of a better quality.

The 'wand' itself is also chunky with lots of relatively small bristles; I don't know about everyone else, and I know that friends of mine have disagreed with me, but personally I prefer a larger brush because I feel as though it is making more of a difference. In this case though I did not find this true at all, and found the mascara itself to be quite heavy and not at all flattering as it just settled on my lashes rather than doing anything in particular. I found myself needing to use multiple coats to generate any sort of effect, defeating the point of the 'false lash' look and going back to clumps. Then I thought 'perhaps if the bristles are slightly longer this won't happen?', but when trying my beloved masterpiece wand with the actual false mascara there was only little improvement. (I know this is probably a big make-up no-no!)

In addition I found that if I were to apply the make-up at the beginning of the day it would not take a lot for it to smudge, or for small black 'speck's of it to fall around my eyes leaving me and my lashes a bit of a panda-like mess.

For these reasons I think it's extremely unlikely that I would choose to buy it again and I guess that the only way I can get that 'false lash' look is with actual false lashes!

Summary: Although not terrible, sadly it just does not live up to other maxfactor mascaras!
