I've been wearing eye liner since I was about 16, which is almost 30 years. I rarely leave the house without wearing any and definitely always use it on nights out and for work. I sometimes wear brown eyeliner but I would say 80% of the time I wear black. I have found that kohl is much easier to apply and therefore tend to purchase kohl pencils rather than standard eye liners.
I picked up my Max Factor Kohl Pencil from my local Boots store where they had an offer for buy one and get the second one for half price and at £4.99 for one kohl pencil I was happy to get two at the same time.
The test for me to see how easy kohl is to apply is to lightly swipe the pencil across the back of my hand. For me decent kohl will just glide across the skin and look as if pressure has been applied. The Max Factor Kohl Pencil was easily visible across the back of my hand. Of course this was something I had to try when I got home as the kohl pencils are actually sealed with adhesive tape. Lucky for me then that this was a decent buy!
The Max Factor Kohl Pencil looks like a standard eye pencil, with a plastic lid to keep it safe from breaking as is usual. The pencil is black in colour with the Max Factor logo and text describing the product in gold lettering with the product code and other info in white. The shades I bought were black as this is the most common colour I use.
As well as being easy to apply on the lower and upper lid, this kohl is easily removed with a facial wipe or eye makeup remover. The pencil is easy enough to sharpen with a makeup pencil sharpener too. One can't really demand much more of a kohl pencil really.
The marketing spiel for Max Factor Kohl Pencil states that it's firm enough to produce a striking definition when using and soft enough to create a smoky, smudgy effect.
I can't claim that this is the best kohl pencil on the market as I'm no expert but I have no hesitation in recommending this and giving it a strong 5 out of 5 stars.
Cyclopentasiloxane, Ozokerite, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Mica, Paraffin, Polyethylene, Phenyl Trimethicone, Cyclohexasiloxane, Propylparaben, Dicalcium Phosphate, Lecithin, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Citric Acid, (+/- CI 77499, CI77891, CI 77491, CI 77510, CI 77492).
Max Factor Kohl Pencil is available in 3 shades: 20 Black, 30 Brown and 50 Charcoal Grey. It is suitable for day time or evening wear and for a natural or dramatic look. At the time of writing Boots is retailing this kohl for £4.99 with a second one at half price and Amazon is selling it for £3.74.
I bought this eye pencil in the "fern" colour because I love eye pencils and wanted one that was a bit different from the usual black / brown affairs. The green colour is quite subtle so it is very wearable. It slightly enhances my blue eyes, but is not as "wow" as I was hoping for.
I usually buy eye pencils from a wide variety of brands, and I have to say that as much as I love max factor products, this one doesn't really stand out as superior. The packaging is very standard, and the pencil formula is very similar to cheaper pencils I have purchased - goes on fine but not amazingly, colour lasts very well, sharpens OK. It really doesn't have anything extra to give, so if you are looking for a standard kohl pencil and are happy with the price then it will be fine, but it is not a "wow" product.
I would buy this again if they happened to have a colour I specifically wanted that I couldn't get in a cheaper range, or if it was on special offer, but I wouldn't personally bother paying the RRP for it again.
I really like using eye pencils so was pleased to receive this pencil in a mini box of Max Factor goodies I got for Christmas. It came in the most popular colour, black, which is my preferred shade, for some reason named shade 020 with this brand. My eye pencil is a mini version, but is otherwise identical to the full-size version, with gold-coloured writing and a clear plastic lid. It's pretty much a standard eye pencil really. The lid seems more secure than some other brands I've tried, but I still prefer to keep it in a mini makeup bag when I'm out and about, rather than letting it loose in my main bag, just in case.
I prefer using liquid eyeliner on my upper eyelids (and I don't do this anyway unless I'm going out), so I stick to using this underneath my eyes. I find that it goes on fairly easily and I can make a harsh line or smudge it without any problems. It seems to be good for versatile looks and I have no problems with either application or appearance. It more or less looks like any black eyeliner once on.
The longevity of the product is similar to other eyeliners from similarly priced brands, possibly a little better. It normally lasts all day when I am at work, except for the odd occasion when it smudges slightly, but if I'm going out after work I do need to reapply. It doesn't come off easily if it rains or if I am crying (I went to see Les Miserables and sobbed my heart out, and the eyeliner didn't come off which is just as well as I would have looked dreadful!).
I checked in Boots and the full size eyeliner costs £4.99 which is reasonable for this item. I would certainly consider buying it again if I was on a budget as it performs very well for the price. If I had the money though I would rather buy my normal Urban Decay eyeliner - it costs £14 but it just doesn't come off at all and no other eyeliner I've used has ever matched up.
I bought this from Boots a few months ago as I am always on the look out for good quality eyeliners and this looked great, with the promise that it will "define eyes while remaining soft on the eyelid." Like alot of people I much prefer a soft and gentle eyeliner than one that is hard in texture so this seemed ideal. It's a kohl eyeliner and as far as I know it can only be found in one colour which is black. I prefer black eyeliner to coloured eyeliner so this isn't a problem for me. I paid £4.99 for this, which for a basic matt eyeliner I think is slightly expensive but it's pretty good (definetly not great) quality so it's worth it. The pencil is quite average looking, it's black in colour and looks like any other eyeliner pencil. There is no smudger but it comes with a plastic lid to protect the nib. The only detail on the pencil is some writing which reads 'Max Factor Kohl Pencil'.
The nib of the pencil is quite sharp and I needed to swatch it before use to avoid it bein a hazard, however because of the soft texture it soon became less sharp. The texture of the eyeliner is soft and creamy and it's nice and smooth in texture so it glides on to my waterline - no dragging at all. I also use this on my eyelid near my lashline and it looks really good - it makes my eyes look more bigger and makes the colour of my iris look more intense. It's very easy to smudge which I suppose it both a good and bad thing. If I smudge it with my finger then it usually goes everywhere, meaning that it doesn't look good at all and gives a panda eye type of look, however with a smudging brush it smudges it just the right amount to create a sexy, smoky eye. This eyeliner isn't waterproof and unfortunetly it smudges a ridiculous amount even when my eyes become a tiny bit damp.
I was quite worried at first that this eyeliner wouldn't be very long wearing due to how soft it is once applied, and I was worried it might melt/bleed slightly throughout the day, however as long as it doesn't get wet or smudged, it does acually keep my eyes looking nice and bold and the intense colour remains on my skin for around 5-6 hours. Any longer and it starts to go flaky and the black turns to a streaky grey colour so if you work long hours and are planning to wear this then you will need to keep it with you for reapplication. I usually wear this on my waterline/lower lashline in the day time and do a thin subtle line, whereas on nights out I will put it on thicker and it's good as an eyeshadow base too as it's such a soft and creamy texture. To be honest though I do avoid this if i'm going somewhere that will be hot and sweaty as it just isn't the type of eyeliner that can survive for long unless you're sitting still and barely blink, lol. Sharpening the pencil is quite awkward because of the soft texture, it goes mushy unless i'm extremely careful and i've broken the nib off by mistake more than once trying to sharpen it. Overall, this isn't a great eyeliner because of its inability to last for long and because it smudges so easily, but I like the fact that it is buildable.
I like to wear a bit of eyeliner no matter where I am going to highlight my eyes , and to compliment my mascara . I always wear black eyeliner and always struggle to find one that actually glides on , and is easy to apply.
I have tried out many different eyeliners including Loreal , Maybelline and No 7 and I havent really been overly impressed with any of them. I have found on a few occassions that I have had to apply pressure to actually get the eyeliner to go on , or often they break to easily which really gets on my nerves.
However , having tried out the Max Factor Kohl Pencil , I am very impressed , I like the fact that they are priced below the £5.00 marker and also the fact it actually applies really easily . I lasts all day , and can be used to create a natural look , by applying a small fine line to the eyelid , or a thicker line to create a full on dramatic look. It is pigmented and really does last all day long , so there is no need to re apply during the day.
I would reccomend this eyeliner to anyone out there that is looking for a decent eyeliner that provides colour , a steady line and that actually lasts .
I nearly always wear black eyeliner and never stick to one, which why I tried out this one.
It is MAX FACTOR and it is just there basic kohl eyeliner, which cost arouns £3.50.
It is purchasable in the likes of Boots, Superdrug, some chemists and also some supermarkets.
When first applied, the first thing I noticed was how soft it was, even compared to other kohl eyeliners I had tried. It was very easy to move across the eyelid from corner and corner and did not feel like I was stabbing my eye.
As it was smooth, it did come out quite pale though which was a bit of a disappointment which did mean I had to go back over the eye a few times until it was a pure black colour.
Another fault with this eyeliner is that it was rubbed off very easily, it would rub off on its own of even just from rubbing it ever so slightly. This did mean that it does need reappylying throughout the day and as I am lazy I hate this!
Overall it is a lovely, soft eyeliner to apply, but when it comes to it can't stand the test of time!
**** Introduction ****
After recently running out of my usual body shol kohl eyeliner pencil, I need a replacement and fast as I was heading out for a night out with the girls.
I headed out to my local twenty four hour tesco store and found this kohl eyeliner made by max factor for the bargain price of £3.59.
**** The Eyeliner ****
This was half the price of my usual eyeliners so I didnt really expect much, I just hoped it would get me through the night and I would replace it with my usual eyeliner in the week.
To my suprise, I actually loved the eyeliner as it was very easy to apply and glided on easily. Usually you need to soften the nib of a new liner but this seems to consit of a gel type texture, that wipes onto your eye line very efficiantly.
After appling my eyeshadows I also loved that it bleanded and smoked out very easily, which is something that I used to struggle with in the past.
The eyeliner comes in a pencil form which can be stored easily and applied with ease.
**** My Views ****
I have to say I am very impressed with the eyeliner considering I was not expecting too much from it I had to eat my words, and admit that this max factor eyeliner excided all of my expectations.
I have an absolutely countless number of eyeliners. I find eyeliners make such a difference on my eyes. When I wake up in the morning and have no make-up on I feel like I have no eyes. No definition whatsoever.
In my big collection of eyeliners is the Max Factor Kohl Pencil, which cost me a painful £4.50! Usually I dont like paying more than £2.50 for an eyeliner, but my friend who only uses the best make up has this so I thought if its any good then it might be worth it.
The pencil like any other eyeliner comes in a pencil shape and Im not sure what other shades this liner comes in but I have it in black - what other colour would it be!
I found this liner a little difficult to apply as it would only apply to certain parts of my eyes, thus giving a not very defined line and more of a crackly line that I had to go over two or three times before getting a defined line. This for me didnt give me a very good feeling about the product and made me not want to use it anymore actually.
However, when the liner was on, it stayed on and if I wanted a smokey eyes look, this pencil smudged easily and did exactly that. As this was a pencil that you sharpen rather than a twisty one, I found that I could get really sharp lines (once it had applied) however, with the fact that it didnt always apply the first time I would have to sharpen it alot to get sharp lines. I found that this also contributed to the shortness of the life of this eye liner, which especially isnt good due to its price tag.
Overall I found this product good but only when I managed to finally get it on! It took a few applications for a perfect, well defined line but also took alot of sharpening, which means time and life of the liner = money. If this pencil applied well then the cost of it may have been a little more worth it but because of the difficulty of the application combined with the price, this really does make a poor product.
Max Factor Kohl Pencil
One thing about Max Factor is that they can be trusted. They are not too expensive and they have quality make-up. Though their products aren't perfect, they are definitely worth the money. Also, their products can be found almost everywhere.
This Kohl Pencil, in other words eyeliner, is for use on the surface around the eye. It is great for enhancing the eye as well as making it look darker and smaller. It comes in different colours but personally I have only tried the black one. The shape of the product is the same as a pencil with colours of blue and gold. You hold it like a pencil and you sharpen it like a pencil; very simple procedures.
This is my favourite. It is not perfect but definitely the best one I have encountered. It is easy to apply and easy to sharpen after a few uses. The one thing that I find a bit annoying is that is doesn't stay on all day. You do have to top it up after half a day but that is hardly unusual. It is easy to clean off with eye make-up remover and it doesn't leave any residue.
The look of the pencil attracts me to it, though it looks very sophisticating and glamorous. I use this almost daily and haven't had any problems with it; no irritation on my skin or difficulties of any kind.
I definitely recommend this Kohl Pencil from Max Factor to anyone who likes using eyeliner. Oh, and who doesn't mind toping it up after 6 or so hours.
Oh how I wish I could use this product, it comes in gorgeous colours, is very well priced for a Max Factor item and gives you the most gorgeous smokey eyes.
However do a patch test, please - do not just buy this and then stick it on for a night out like I did. My eyes started sting just minutes after I left the house and thinking nothing of it I continued on out. Big mistake, the stinging didn't go away, but instead was joined by streaming eyes and redness.
What I learnt from that was that though this kohl liner was nice, it wasn't suitable for my sensitive eyes - and my eyes aren't that sensitive, and also - it isn't waterproof!
As the reaction continued my eyes got puffy and my lash line where I had concentrated the liner became sore - I mean my lashes actually hurt. Now that was a new one, sore eyelashes!
Needless to say the night was cut short, I went home and took that liner off as soon as I could. A few minutes later the stinging subsided but the other reactions took a full day to completely wear off. I hadn't used anything else new that night so I know 100% it was this eyeliner. Of course not all make-up will agree with all people, but I wear a lot of different eye make-ups and never had that reaction before that. I have tried the liner again since and the same reaction came back. It has since been thrown out and I won't touch it again.
Great kohl liner, gives you a great look - but patch test first on a day it won't matter if this happens or it'll ruin a night for you should it do the same.
£4.40 in boots.
A simple black pencil with silver writing.
How to apply:
Apply to the bottom of the eyelids and underneath the eyes. Some people find it very hard to apply eyeliner but if you take your time and get very close to a clean well lit mirror its gets easy after practise.
I have used other kohl pencils before and never found one as heavy as this one.
I find it really easy to apply eye liner and i go though it quickly because i like to wear it all of the time.
Max factor describe it as a light pencil and soft for the eyelid.
When applying it went on very thick and cloggy and after wearing this for a few hours it had gone quite flaky on my eyelid.
By the end of the day it was all completely smudged off and it looked a right mess!
Also next time i thought i would try it again i sharpened using a very good sharpener and it kept breaking every time! It is not very well made at all.
I will not use this again, in fact i gave it to my niece for her "make up box" lol.
There are some much better brands out there that sell kohl pencils for £1.99 and they stay on all day.
Re: Max Factor Kohl PencilVery poor. Bought at Boots. As soon as I tried to sharpen it, with a proper cosmetics shrpner, it fell apart. Every bit I sharpened, the wood disintegrated and the black bit dropped off. Expensive and useless.Nb. The system is forcing me to give a star, but it is actually Zero stars.RegardsA.
I am a huge fan of the smoky eyed look and am constanly searching for an eyeliner which will help create that look, I feel as though I have fond this with Maxfactors Kohl Pencil.
The eyeliner itself looks very much like the other eyeliner pencils out there it is in pencil form and is navy blue with gold writing on ther to me this maks it look classy and a lot more expensive then the actual few pounds I spent on it.
The eyeliner it self is very easy to apply, as usually I dind they can be quite sharp and I almost have top scratch my eye to put it on this however has an almost cream texture to it and therefore it glides across your eyelid nice and smoothly, you can apply more pressure to create a thick or thin line. Once applied I found it makes my eyes look quite dramatic and I can also smudge the eyeliner slightly to make it have the smoky effect I wanted, however with this eyeliner you need to be careful as I found it can smudge easily throughout the day, though dont think this means it doesnt last long I find I only need to apply it just before work and 8 hours later when Im back home it is still there looking as though I have just applied it!
It only comes in a few shades at the moment which are black, blue and brown. I suppose this is because these are the shades most of us wear however it would be nice in time if they bought a few more out.
The one thing I do own alot of is Kohl pencils. Whether they be like this in a conventional pencil style or whether it be a wet/dry eyeliner, wet pen liquids type of things you name it I have them and in a variety of colours too. I wouldn't dream of going on a night out without some sort of eyeliner on as I'd just feel naked! I'm sure I'm not the only one that loses them all over the place though and I have them stashed in all sorts of weird and wonderful places so I never have to go without. The thought of not being able to use one is a horrific thought for me!
One brand I really do trust is Max Factor. I'm a huge fan of their products. However after buying 2 Line Makers (Max Factor's eyeliner pen type things) in black and in brown on a whim I was a bit worried about ever buying anything from Max Factor again! The eye liners were just absolutely the worst ever eyeliner pens I had ever used and so disgusted with them was I that they hit the bin at a hundred miles an hour and no review was ever written about them. However like any brand of cosmetics you get the good stuff and the awful stuff and I knew that a simple kohl pencil wasn't going to create any problem for Max Factor to produce.
I do have to be very careful what I use on my eyes. I know people say they have sensitive eyes but I really do. My eyes react to so many eye products and once when I never removed a Rimmel mascara properly (I did try really hard but figured I'd do the best I could till I got in the shower the next day) I almost ended up in accident and emergency as my eyeballs looked like they were popping out of my head and I could hardly blink! Also with eyeliner's and mascara's they can be fine on one minute and say an hour later or even longer I can suddenly get a tingling, dirty, grubby feeling in my eyes and they will stream and all I want to do is rub them. This scenario has ruined many a good evening for me. So although I love make up (I'm a qualified Beauty Therapist after all) my application of eye make up has to be easy and importantly easy to apply, none agitating and simple to remove. I have always found removing Max Factor products (with the exception of Lipfinity) easy to remove and that's why I purchased this. For me this was a simple and straightforward purchase.
Long dark navy blue pencil with a matching pull on/off lid. Written on the side in gold writing I'm told it's Max Factor, Kohl pencil and some stuff in foreign languages under that that I don't understand. I'm then told my colour which is Taupe (a medium brown colour). Contact details for Procter & Gamble (the manufacturer of Max Factor) are there also, the recycle symbol is on there too and finally there is a white bar code. At the bottom of the pencil it's colour coded so in my case the end is plastic and brown in colour. All in all it's a nice enough styled pencil and I like the fact it's colour coded so if you have more than one kohl pencil in this style and brand you know at a glance which one is which without having to take all the lids off etc!
About The Product....
Max Factor Kohl Pencil is your secret weapon to sexy, striking eyes! As well as defining and shape and adding a splash of colour to your look, It can be sexily smudged across your eyelid and under the lower lashes in true rock chic style. This soft, easy to blend pencil takes seconds to apply and gives you and instant shot of glamour if you're going from desk to dance floor or from workout to work!
Very simple indeed. A kohl pencil is just a simple name for an eyeliner so use it as such! I use it either before using eyeshadow or I use it after applying the eyeshadow and if I want more effect and really strong eyeliner colouring I use it before and after eyeshadow to make the colour pop out.
This pencil is just so easy to use. The colour is moist and creamy and it glides on with no effort very gently and smoothly and quite thickly. Even over time of owning it providing you slip the lid back on after use it stays as good as new and I've owned mine over 6 months now and it really is as good as new (although not as long as it once was lol).
The pencil itself is of really good quality. It sharpens ever so easily (providing you use a decent sharpener of course) and it's quite effortless due to the wood of the pencil being of good quality and really smooth. Once sharpened there is no nasty smell, no bits coming off that shouldn't and the nib, even if you sharpen to a sharp point it doesn't break and/or split or anything which is pretty important let's face it as no one wants a piece of colour coming off in their eyes after-all!
Once on the colour looks as well as feels creamy and even if using it twice (as I explained previously I do) it doesn't feel heavy or caked on in any way shape or form. It feels natural and it stays put with no bleeding and no fade or smudging for hours upon hours and when you come to remove it, again that's simple too! Just remove it with make up remover of any type and it'll visibly come off leaving no residue or tell tale signs. Neither when I'm wearing it or remove it does it irritate my eyes.
Recommended? Definitely! This is so simple to use and to keep and I'll wear mine in the day or the night as I know I can with no nasty side effects. I simply trust it to do a great job. At £4.50 (in Boots and can also be found in a whole host of other chemists and supermarkets) this is so economical and it's a very trusted product of mine indeed.
Boots at the moment only stock this kohl pencil in black but it is available also in blue/black and brown if you look around for it and it can be found to purchase it online!
