-- Reasons for buying--
Lately I've been getting bored of my usual mascara (as girls do) and decided to try something different. My mum has always used Max Factor Masterpiece High Definition Mascara and recommended it to me. So when I was on my weekly shop I popped into Boots and grabbed this.
-- Packaging --
I must say I really loved the gold long thick tube, it added some glamour to my make-up bag. The tube has a slightly curved lid, with the shade of the mascara on the top. The name of the mascara was labelled on the side of the tube in again a lovely shiny golden colour.
-- Using the product --
The wand is an average size which is great as my last mascara's wand was quick thick and often ended up poking myself in the eye. But this was a perfect size and distributed the product evenly all over my lashes. The wand good at picking up just the right amount of product and not making a lot of mess all over my lids which I also found with my last mascara. It is very easy to use and glides on beautifully.
-- Pros and Cons --
I really liked how the wand had small spikes attached to it which defined my lashes and applied just the right amount of product. I'm usually keen on mascaras that give you very thick, voluminous lashes, but this mascara gave me something I had never experienced before. My lashes were very voluminous and gorgeously spaced out but with just one coat and there was absolutely no mess. My eyes look sophisticated and definitely high definition, my eyes also look wider and more awake which is lovely! I can honestly say that the only con would be the price which I will discuss further down below.
-- Price and availability --
This product is widely available in must drug stores and supermarkets. There are two shades available 'brown black' and 'black'. I bought this in boots for £8.99, for me (a full time college student and only works one day a week) this is very expensive. I would say that the quality of the product is definitely worth the money. Lets just hope it doesn't run out to quickly!
-- Conclusion --
This product is absolutely fantastic, gives me great even beautiful results with only one coat. Not heavy in the slightest, but still gives definition and a 'pow' to your eyes. A little pricey for me but I'm sure it will last ages as you don't need much. Would definitely recommend this product!
Max Factor is a range that I am really beginning to trust and rely on after trying several of their products and getting some great results. I received a free gift set when making a previous Max Factor purchase, and one of the items included in my goody bag was this Max Factor Masterpiece High Definition Mascara. It is a smaller sized product containing 5.3mls and this is great as the smaller packaging makes it easier to carry around and is handy for travelling. There are several other variants of this mascara, but this review specifically refers to the Masterpiece High Definition version.
Firstly, I really like the brush on this mascara. It has the usual wand style applicator but the brush tip seems to be made of a rubbery type material and there are lots of little spikey bristles that go all the
way around. The bristles are arranged so that they get smaller towards the end of the brush, and this is really useful for getting a neat application. The brush seems to be very effective, as it will coat each of my lashes and also separate them at the same time. It is also great for applying to the lower lash line without any of the smudging that I usually get with other mascaras.
This mascara comes in a lovely shade called "rich black" which seems to have a dense level of pigment. The colour really helps to darken my lashes to give a deep level of colour which is the first stage in helping them to stand out. I have naturally dark hair and lashes anyway but this colour seemed to make quite a dramatic difference and gave my lashes a lovely sophisticated look that complimented my black eyeliner that I also usually wear.
Nowadays the trend with mascara seems to be going for the biggest, thickest, false lash effect. I must admit that I have fallen in with the crowd on this and love a nice volumising mascara that makes my lashes look thicker. However, after using this mascara I asbsolutely love the look that it gives and may even back away from my volumising products in preference for something like this that gives an equally striking effect but in a more subtle way. This High Definition mascara really does live up to its name. It defines and separates each lash thanks to the well designed brush. It also gives a lovely lengthening effect which keeps my lashes set in place all day. The added length and depth of colour make my lashes stand out individually and the overall look is dramatic and elegant. It really helps to make my eyes appear more open and wider, and is the perfect finishing touch to my other eye make-up.
I am so glad to have received this as a free gift, as it is not necessarily the type of mascara that I would have chosen to buy myself. It enhances my lashes without overloading them and gives a beautiful look that draws attention to my eyes. I have worn it almost constantly since first trying it, and was impressed that this little tube lasted me for almost exactly 6 months of use. I would definitely be happy to go out and purchase the full size mascara after seeing that this is a high quality product that gives a top performance. If you fancy a change from heavy, clumpy lashes I would highly recommend this mascara!
