Max Factor Masterpiece Mascara
Advantages: doesnt clump, long lasting, fabulous results
Disadvantages: slightly expensive, not waterproof
The first thing you will notice about this product, is the brush has plastic spikes rather than bristles - it almost looks like a mini instrument of torture! I was slightly dubious about these at first, but they're actually a stroke of genius, as they mean they get right into the corner of your eyes without smudging. It also isn't scratchy on your eyes, as I had thought it might be - you won't notice that it's any different to your bog standard bristle brush.
Application is very easy with this product. It's the perfect consistency - not so liquid that it's running off your brush (a common thing with very cheap mascaras), but not so thick that you have to use extra force to run it through your lashes! It doesn't clump onto your lashes either, which is a bonus, and since beginning to use this, I don't think I've once even taken my eyelash comb out of my make-up bag for emergency de-clumping!
As I said above, the tapered plastic brush, complete with spiky bits is great for getting into the corners of your eyes too.
I love the way this mascara looks when it's done. I'm not one for heavy make-up, so only usually use one coat, and this gives a really natural finish, although the colour is still quite intense. Because it gets right into the corners of your eyes it really opens them up, and makes them look wider. For nights out or smoky eyes, applying two coats should be enough, as this gives great coverage, and doesn't clump together after applying the second coat.
One thing I hate about some of the cheaper brands, is when they make your lashes feel hard and then crumble away after a few hours - this one doesn't do that, it is pretty smudgeproof and even after wearing it all day, I'm never left with those little black specks of mascara all round my eyes.
It may also be worth saying that I wear contact lenses and have sensitive eyes - I had an eye infection over christmas - and even then, when wearing this, I suffered no irritation.
I find that generally, this lasts all day. The only time I would re-apply it, is if I was going out on that night, I might add an extra coat, but that would be more to add a bit of thickness to my lashes, rather than because I needed to.
The only bad things I can think to say about this, are that it may not be in everyone's price range, and also that it's not waterproof, which is something to bear in mind.
I love the tube this comes in. As you can see from the picture above, it's gold, which I love, as I don't understand the obsession companies seem to have with mascara in Navy blue tubes?! I think it looks quite expensive, and has a sort of clear sleeve over the gold, which makes it stand out from other mascaras on the market.
This is sort of in a medium price range, at around £7.99 from Superdrug. It may sound a lot to some people, but if it's a product you will use regularly, I would say you should think of it as a good investment.
This is available in three different colour options - Rich black, Brown black, and Deep blue. You can visit the Max Factor website at www.maxfactor.co.uk
