Advantages: Does the job, cheap
Disadvantages: Test on animals, not amazing quality
~*~ Max Factor Mastertouch Undereye Concealer ~*~
I used to be a loyal Touche Eclat girl. Then my make-up budget significantly dropped, and I began to use No. 7's version, which I have nothing but praise for. However! My trusted concealer recently ran out without any warning, and on a Friday night of all times! Boots wasn't open, I needed an alternative, and the only place on offer was Asda, which resulted in me selecting Max Factor's version of the make-up.
I usually steer clear of Max Factor as I know they test on animals. To be fair, most make-up brands do, which is atrocious in this day and age of technology. No Boots brands test on animals, which is why I can justify spending that little bit extra on their make up products knowing that I am supporting a good cause. Anyway, I had to go against my morals on this one - I know it sounds awful, but I risked not being let in to my favourite club due to the terrifying bags under my eyes, and this was all that was on offer!
~*~ The packaging ~*~
This concealer comes in a see through case, which is good as you know when you are about to run out. The bottom of the product is black, and you twist the base to release the product from the foam tip. I found that the writing on the concealer rubs off very quickly (the gold brand Max Factor lettering and product description) which cheapens the product in my eyes. Apart from this, the packaging isn't too bad. It doesn't scream luxury, but it does the job.
~*~ The effect ~*~
This concealer is described as a "miracle product that gives you the expert touch of a professional make-up artist." This is apparently due to a special skin smoothing applicator and the products light-diffusing creamy formula.
On first application, I was surprised at how thick the formula is - much thicker than what I have been used to. The product goes on well, and doesn't feel too thick on your skin. I would describe the coverage and effect as average to good - not as good as other brands I have tried, but by no means bad. Definitely an improvement, anyway!
~*~ The shades ~*~
This product is available to purchase in three shades - ivory, fair and beige. Not a massive selection, but this is generally the case for highlighters I have found. Apparently less shades are needed in the highlighters range due to their different function from normal make-up products.
~*~ The price ~*~
This concealer was just over £6.50 from Asda, and is priced the same in other supermarkets such as Tesco as well as in Boots and Superdrug. It is a readily available product, and chances are you wont have to go far to find one.
~*~ The verdict ~*~
I was quite pleasantly surprised by this product. I have been using No. 7's version for a very long time now, and have always been pleased with the results. At almost double the price, however, there is a big price increase there.
However! The results of No 7's 'Instant Radiance' highlighter pen are, in my opinion, superior to those of Max Factor's version. The Boots version just feels a better quality, the formula is creamier and goes on better and, more importantly, the product is cruelty-free. Although it is £12, I always make sure I purchase with a '£5 off No.7' Boots promotional voucher, making it just £7, and an absolute bargain.
If you are stuck for a product and need a concealer now, this isn't a bad little one to have in your make-up bag. However, if you are looking for something that is that little bit special, it's worth forking out a little bit more and looking elsewhere.
Summary: Not a bad product, but nothing too special
