Advantages: Its got a nice container, it's an ok product at a push.
Disadvantages: It sparkles a lot!
A while back I reviewed L'Oreal mineral foundation and I really liked it and how the whole minerals effect worked. I had originally intended to by this one, the Max-Factor Natural Minerals but that day they did not have it in stock and so I chose L'Oreal. Recently though, I had a Boots voucher for my birthday and if I bought two items from Max Factor they were giving away a really cool make-up bag full of miniatures and so I bought this mineral foundation along with a mascara.
I have bog standard skin, veering slightly towards the oily type at times, and it is because of this that I find I get on quite well with minerals. I have good skin and so really just require something to even it lightly rather than a liquid foundation that gives a lot of coverage. I chose -70 Natural. It seemed most like my skin tone, and the good thing about minerals is that you can apply as little or as much as you need, so a shade or two out is not that visible.
The Packaging
_____________
The mineral powder is sectioned away in its own little container at the bottom of the product. You just pop the container holding the brush off the top and there is like a little seal keeping the powder inside. If you think along the lines of a salt shaker it is very similar to this.
Once you have popped off the little seal, you can pop your brush from the top of the container and use it to apply the powder. I tend to drop a little bit of powder directly on to the brush as the other ways seem to loose a lot of your make up. It isn't cheap so it's better to use it sparingly. Also, a little goes a long way.
The Effect
____________
I loved my previous mineral foundation. It was so natural, but I have found that this new one by Max-Factor wears off far too quickly and it is much too sparkly for my liking too. Sometimes I look in the mirror and I can see the glimmers of the dust on my skin. I know this is supposed to be illuminating, but its not very daytime, and I feel conscious of it at work. I suppose from a distance my skin probably looks healthy and plump, but when you are close up I look a little like I am rehearsing for a west end show as I am so sparkly (Ok, a wee exaggeration)
Value for Money
_______________
Its expensive at £12.99, but it will last the course. Although I am not in love with mine I am going to keep using it until it is finishes as it isn't that bad, but it isn't a patch on the L'Oreal version either. The thing about mineral foundations is that they last a life time, this still looks barely touched even though I am using it daily for around three weeks now.
In regards to using a mineral foundation, I would like to point out that it isn't something you should try if you have dry skin- the powder will cling to dry areas and emphasise them. And also, if you are having a really oily day you may find that it clings to the oil too. Mineral is a good bet for someone who has fairly normal skin with the very occasional oily patch. I find it lets my skin breathe and it never gives me spots like I would sometimes get with a liquid foundation.
Recommend?

Afraid not, Its not that I would not recommend mineral powders, its just that this one falls very badly short from being a good product. It is very expensive, very sparkly and wears off too quickly.
It's a no from me Max Factor. It seems that you and I do not get along very well.

Summary: I have used better mineral foundation than this one.
