Advantages: Light, natural, leaves skin matte without drying it out
Disadvantages: Won't cover blemishes
For the past few years I'd been using Max Factor's Colour Adapt Foundation in Creamy Ivory 40 but I decided to give Second Skin a go in the same shade to see if it lived up to its claims of a 'virtually undetectable' and 'perfectly natural look'. The first thing I noticed that they are not actually the same shade - Second Skin is much warmer but this actually suited my skin tone more as Colour Adapt was a little pale for me so I would say test it before buying.
The liquid is creamy without being too thick but you do need to watch when using the pump as pressing down hard as it can squirt out more than is needed. I always use a sponge to apply as it's easy to do and gives an even coverage. When applying it leaves my skin glowing which I thought might make it look greasy but after a minute or so it looks more matte. My skin can be a little oily especially around my T-Zone but Second Skin actually leaves my skin matte throughout the day without drying it out.
The only downfall of this foundation I've found is it doesn't cover blemishes but because it is light I would have to agree that it at least felt 'virtually undetectable'. Because the liquid isn't heavy it didn't leave it cakey and finding the shade that suited me best meant I didn't have noticeable lines around jaw, neck and hairline so it does look natural. As it's easy to put on, it's also easy to remove too - I do use make up remover but have also just used water and didn't have to scrub it off.
It is a little more expensive (around £14) than I'd previously been used to spending but there are a lot more favourable points for me such as not being oily the whole day and having light coverage so I don't begrudge spending it. My 30ml bottle has already lasted months and I don't tend to use much when I do apply it so it has been rather good value for money overall.
Summary: Natural look with light coverage
