Advantages: Ease of use in applying, natural looking and feels nice on the lips as it's soft
Disadvantages: The gloss part is comes off greasy (though it's nones sticky!)
As a lover (generally) of Max Factor products I was pretty pleased when I found this for the first time in my local Boot's a while back. If I like a brand and spy something I haven't heard of before I have to buy it right there and then regardless of price. I'm like a magpie!
To be honest I've had a few issues of late with Max Factor which did make me stop and think twice (opposed to skipping to the till point without any thought as normal). I have bought a couple of well dodgy liquid eyeliners from the range recently that were not only worse thing I have ever tried to apply to my eyes (review to follow at some point) but they also gave me terrible eye infections and landed in the bin almost immediately.
Also Max Factor Lipfinity lip colours which for a long time now has been my preferred brand of lip colour has started to disagree with me and go clumpy and dry on my lips (hence more lip colour reviews than usual while I'm buying everything in sight looking for a decent one!). Also the pressed powder has been a bind and also decided to collect on my face and make a horrible mess which meant I had o chage brands. So at time of purchasing this I was very wary indeed and I don't mind spending my pennies just not on rubbish!
The Packaging....
It's an 8ml see through plastic tube with gold coloured screw on/off lid in which a long white plastic 'wand' with a hard slanted white sponge applicator attached. On it in gold writing I am told it is Shine Gloss, 'high beam shine and lip balm feel' and some stuff in a foreign language I can't understand and told it is indeed a Max Factor product. Around the back the recyclable symbol is on it and the size is stated (as I've listed already) and contact details for Procter & Gamble (the manufacturers of Max Factor). On the bottom of the tube is a colour dot label showing the colour I have bought (even though I can see it through the tube lol) and I'm told the product is made in Ireland and my colour is written (Cashmere Red 325). All in a nice grown up looking tube of lip colour which incidentally is robust and none scratching so the product is great in a handbag or a pocket or something without looking old and scruffy quickly.
To Use...
Well you use it as a lipstick. This is fine to use alone or on top of your chosen lip colour. Personally I chose quite a darkish colour to use alone.
The gloss is incredibly easy to use on so many levels. When you pull the applicator out it doesn't get loads of product everywhere it actually sticks to the applicator and it absorbs it a bit so as you press on your lips the colour squidges out but not loads. The consistency is not at all thick and gloopy and like glue. It is wet enough to apply really easily and as the packaging states it feels like a lip balm. The smell is delicious! Slightly fruity and smells of vanilla to my nasal passages. It's really lovely and doesn't taste of anything.
I find the coverage to be excellent and it glides on whilst not using very much product at all. This doesn't deliver a plastic trout put but does gives a nice gentle shine without caking lips in glitter in fact I cant see any glitter particles within it at all. Really easy to define shape as well the applicator is great as it's hard sponge.
It looks very natural and and feels it too. It's easy to use and does feel like a balm and does with using regular usage feel like it improves the texture and smoothness of lips.
The Drawback....
Ok so it looks really nice. I like wearing it but of course there is a flip side to everything in the world of cosmetics lol It stays on the lips and is none smudging and it does stay on the lips without getting on the rest of your skin but where this is problematic is with eating, drinking and smoking and don't try and kiss anyone for heavens sake (though it does wipe off them easy). You can matte the colour down with some tissue after application which works well and it still feels nice but you lose the gloss but it is a way of making the colour stick. However just layer it on and go and you lose the top layer all over everywhere! On the upside you may lose that gloss but the colour stains so its swings and roundabouts.
Yes I like it and I find the colour to stay around a little bit longer than other cheaper lipsticks or glosses hanging about on the lips for about an hour and half. It's not a problem to reapply though as it's none sticky. What is also nice is this doesn't clump over dry or flaky skin it seems to glide over without magnifying problems. It's a joy to use but transfer of the gloss part is an issue so if you wanna sit and pout this is great but living a life can be hard work!
Mine cost £7.50 in Boot's but do shop around!
Summary: Would get more stars if the gloss stayed on!
