I bought this Maybelline Superstay lipstick because I was looking for a lip product that I wouldn't have to keep reapplying and the fact that this lipstick promised this and that it would last 16 hours plus high shine was an attractive prospect for me. When I went into Superdrug they were £2 off from a normal price of about £7 or £8. So that clinched it and I bought one.

They have changed the packaging since I bought it a couple of years back but my pack came in a cardboard pack with two tubes. Firstly the lipstick in one tube and the gloss in the other. The lipstick is liquid in the tube and when you unscrew it there is a sponge wand on the end and you apply the lipstick as you would a gloss. The bottom part is see-through so you can check the colour immediately and the top is silver. The other tube is all grey and this has a white balm which you twist to bring up and you apply after the lipstick to add the gloss and shine. It's a good idea they have now redone the packaging so it's one item because if I ever took this out with me I would grab the lipstick and forget that I needed to pick up the other part too so it didn't score top marks in the design department.

Sadly neither did it score top marks in the use department either. I found the liquid lipstick really difficult to apply. It used to start to dry out before I had finished applying it and I would be trying to even out the liquid but it had already started to dry which meant it would be all patchy and uneven which looked silly. Then you had to apply the balm on top. This would be good for a while but would wear off quickly which wasn't nice because the lipstick alone felt a bit drying. So the balm would get used far too quickly in comparison so you had to rely on other products for the balm effect. In terms of colours there was quite a good range. I bought two. Firstly I bought shade 427 which was a mid to dark red which looked really bad so I went and got another one, shade 413, a sweet dusky pink, thinking that I had just got an 'off' one last time but there was no improvement in the look of the product once on. Moreover I found it did not live up to the 16 hour claim either and when I started to eat or drink I noticed that it would flake off slightly just leaving the lipstick around the edges of my mouth and all gone in the centre. Not a good look.

To sum up I can't recommend them at all. They have just lain in my drawer ever since. Every now and again I have tried them again but the results are always equally bad so clearly it wasn't meant to be for me though I know there are a lot of people who just adore this product but I'm just not one of them.

Summary: Twice is quite enough
