“ Brand: Maybelline / Type: Lipstick / Suitable for: Lip „
Bought this lipstick for years and definitely a firm favourite. Have tried many shades and find the darker the shade the longer it lasts, some even until the following morning! The lighter shades, such as baby pink, can wear off after a few hours and tend to feel a bit sticky where as you don't get that at all with the darker shades. This is a real make up must have for those nights out or long days where you don't want to keep re applying your makeup. The gloss top does come off fairly quickly and you can buy this as a single item extra if you wish but the actually colour will outlive the gloss by many many hours.
I usually spend around £10 on this item and would say for the price it is extremely worth it, wearing every day I usually make one last for around two to three months.
I wear Superstay, every day. It goes on, evenly. Stays on, flawlessly. If someone asks if it is really semi-permanent, I love shocking them by kissing my red lipstick to my white sleeve. There is not so much as a hint that it ever happened. They usually write down the brand name, so they know what lipstick to purchase.
The trick to keeping it on, is to make sure to not get anything with oil on your mouth. Because the lipstick is oil-based, anything else with oil in it will wipe the lipstick right off. Also, avoid layering on the lipstick too thickly. If you avoid thick layering, and coming into contact with oil, the lipstick should last you about 8 hours. That's not as many hours as advertised. However, it's still incredibly impressive. Of all the semi-permanent lipsticks, I find this to be the least drying. I generally have no use for the lipgloss portion, and end up throwing it away.
I bought a pack of 3 from Ebay @ £9.99 in Wilbury 250. Mine are in a white outer casing.
I like to wear some lipstick everyday as otherwise I look really pale and washed out. Not only that but there is something about wearing lipstick that just makes you feel better.
The two things I like about this Maybelline one is 1: its easy to apply and 2: it doesnt dry up and flake during the day.
Some longstay lipsticks are really dry then flake over time leaving a very messy look which is suprisingly difficult to then remove.
Ive found with this one it does stay on all day and I dont use the other end with the moisturising stick, maybe that makes a difference.
The only problem I have found with this one is that it actually can apply quite thickly causing a rim effect around the mouth which is then difficult to tidy up. This is remedied by either using a lip liner - which I dont - or wiping the excess off the applicator before applying. You can then intensify the colour by adding more.
I have never re-applied during the day.
Another thing about this one is the shape of the lipstick holder end. Ive found that ones like No7 are long and straight which allows you to get the lipstick from the middle part but not actually at the bottom and certainly not at the top of the container. The Maybelline is a shorter fatter shape so its easier to move the applicator inside and you dont lose so much (unless like me you end up cutting the No7 one up to get at the leftovers)
My Lip colour Journey:
My lips are strange in that they naturally are quite pale but the outer edges are dark making them look like they constantly have a line of lip liner around them. In the past when I have applied lipsticks or gloss they look strange as no-one including myself is used to me having one colour lips. Lip gloss I don't have time for now as I hate that feeling when you go out and your hair blows face and sticks in your glossed up lips.
Up until last week I was dreaming of wearing letter box red or dark purple vampy colour on my lips and never thought that it would be possible as lip colour doesn't stay where it's supposed to on my lips and bleeds quite badly, in the end I give up re-applying it as it's not worth the time or effort. Generally I stick to lip-balm on my lips and I wear a mixture of naturals to bright and metallic on my eyes, my make-up bag is brimming with mascara's, eye pencils, eye shadows and other make-up items but it is really badly lacking in lip products. With Christmas coming up I decided to try again to find something that I could wear on my lips and finish off my planned outfit.
So what made me buy Maybelline 18 hour lip colour? I saw an advertisement for another brands 'lip stain' with the balm on the end and thought it was a fantastic idea as there's nothing worse than having dry lips so I headed off to Ebay and started looking for that brand but it was really in demand. I accidently came across this and thought it must be similar, although it doesn't state that it's a lip stain, it definitely is.
As soon as it arrived I opened it up, the colour I purchased is shade number 280 and is called 'Magical Merlot' it's a deep plum with glittery bits in it. You screw open the lip colour end and apply it evenly just like you would for a lip gloss. Once that's applied and you are happy with it and it's dry you pull open the balm end and apply in the same way as you would a lip balm. I did think the colour was going to be a darker plum like the vampy colour I had always dreamed of but instead it was a natural looking plum. This is the only colour that I have applied that looks good straight away. The glitter in it isn't noticeable on the lips but it does make it look shiny even when it's not.
The application was easy and it's very hard not to get professional looking results the balm definitely keeps the lips moisturised but you do need to apply it regularly to keep your lips from drying. I tested this even further by taking a drink of juice straight away and only little specks of the glitter came off on the glass. I then tested later on with hot coffee and there was no residue on the cup and I also tested this when I went for a cigarette and again there was nothing. After around 8 hours it was still on my lips looking just as good as it did when it was originally applied.
Although this is one of the darker shades in the range I do feel I could wear this to work or out on the town, I have already decided that I am going to purchase more colours and have my eye on Active Rose, Cosmic Coral, Natural Beige and Red Passion. Making these choices where difficult as there are 26 shades in the range and if I'm being truly honest I want nearly all of them.
This smells quite nice and isn't too strong, I've been trying to think what the lip colour smells like and it smells a little bit fruity and slightly like tropical jam. The colour side twists open and you apply this like you would most other lip-gloss's, it has a wand so you can apply it easily and you only need a very thin layer of colour to give an even coverage. Once applied you pop the balm over the colour so you end up with glossy colour packed lips that really pack a punch without any funny aftertaste.
The original price of these is around £7 but I purchased mine for £2.50 brand new on Ebay. I don't know if I would have purchased this initially at the full RRP without trying it but now that I have tried and tested this I have already started planning which colours I must purchase next. If I wasn't able to purchase these cheaper on Ebay or Amazon I would without a doubt pay the full price and in all honesty it would be worth it.
I am in love with this product. It really has done what it was supposed to unlike other brands claims. I love the colours and how easy it is to apply; even if you're in a rush you can easily apply this. I now feel as though I am a mummy, it sounds silly but when I was growing up ladies who wore lipstick always made me think of someone who was a mummy. I grew up thinking that wearing high heels, wearing your hair down and wearing lipstick was what had to happen for someone to be 'grown up' I've managed the hair, the heels and now the lipstick (or lip colour). Silly really but for me that is just how I associated things. This really does last on the lips and you can continue your day as normal so eating and drinking aren't out of the question and you don't have to worry about re-applying it or if it's bled all over your face.
I definitely recommend this for everyone to try.
Price: £2.50 from Ebay
Colour: I purchased number 280 Magical Merlot.
Other colours available: There are 26 to choose from, each has a memorable name such as red passion, radiant ruby, wine shine, plum dream, wildberry, active rose, golden toffee, lilac glow, cosmic coral and soft taupe to name a few of them.
I literally have about 20 lipsticks thrown in my make up bag and all of them have the same problem, they never stay on more than 5 minutes! frustrating huh! im sure all women go through this dilemma when wanting a lipstick that actually lasts. I know thats what I want so I went in search of one.
I brought this in morrisons at about £8.99 and I saw it boldly said 18 hour wear, I thought wow I will give this go. There was about 11 different shades so I thought one of them will definatly be the one for me. these are the colours that are available:
Ok so I thought I would buy one that genaerally matches what lipstick I normally use so I got the brilliant bronze.
This comes in a red and silver long cardboard box with 2 slits in each end it lets you see the colour and one the other end there is a conditioning balm that you apply over your lipstick once it is dry. the front of the box says in big letters 18 hour wear then in small writing stay-put, non drying lipcolour and "SUPERSTAY" in bold. it tells you that step 1 is to apply lip colour and step to to apply the lip balm.
directions of use: Apply a thin, even layer of super richlipcolour and allow it to dry completely
condition and shine balm: apply generously to keep lips looking super shiny and feeling super soft all day.
Their advice is to use the two products together for best results. Although you can use any make up remover to remove the lip colour it may be easier to use a oil based remover.
this product was made in france.
On one side of the box it also shows you a diagram of whats inside the packet.
I wouls list the ingredients but seriously there is so many I would still be listing them tomorrow if i did lol.
Ok so I opened the box and I noticed you get about 2 inches of actual lip colour and a little bit more for the lip balm, so first impression is you dont really get alot of lip colour for your money. As I unscrew the applicator I notice this is a sponge applicator which I think is good as this means it should be easy to apply. Ok so it goes on nice and smooth and it is a nice colour although it comes out alot lighter than it looks, meaning the shade of colour doesnt look to great on me, well hopefully it will grow on me.
so yes I found this easy to apply, the only problem I did find is that its quite hard to get it all over your lips, especially mine as I have quite thin lips and I did at one stage go slightly off my lip and it was a bugger to try and rub off, so slight frustration there.
Ok so when I did get it off I waited for it to dry which only took a few minutes so I then applied the conditioning balm and that went on lovely and yes it did make my lips shine lovely.
So does it go the 18 hour distance?
Well no I dont think it does but not far off, I would say about 13 hours which to me is still great as no other lip stick does this. Although I call it lip colour or lip tint. When its applied to the lips its thin so it doesnt look thick like a lipstick would but all the same its great for all day wear. so no touch up is required during the day although you can always touch up the balm but I didnt feel the need to.
Just be carefull when choosing the right colour as it does come out slightly different on your lips.
I find it also has a nice smell to it, a bit like cherrys, but maybe thats just me lol
I used baby wipes to rub this off and I found it came off well.
Please do bear in mind this doesnt last very long. I have used it about 8 times and I would say there is only about 3 more uses out of it.
I would reccomend this to everyone who wants longer lasting lip stain that does really work.
I will give this 4 stars, it lost a star for me because its tricky to cover all your lips and that the shade on the box slightly differs when you put it on your lips.
Although I do sometimes take the time to apply make-up in the morning, I am definitely too low-maintenance to keep checking it and reapplying it all day. I was sick of lipsticks that barely make it past my morning commute, but had had bad experiences in the past with long-wearing lipsticks that dried my lips out terrible. I decided to give Maybelline a try after a friend recommended this product as solving both of these problems at the same time.
Maybelline 18hr Superstay Lipstick comes with two products in the same sliver tube. The lipstick is at one end of the tube, and this side is tipped with clear plastic so you can get a glimpse of the colour inside. The other end of the tube is opaque and contains a lip gloss.
Before I apply this, what I do first is put a bunch of vaseline on my lips and then lightly brush my lips with a dry toothbrush. I read to do this in a fashion magazine years ago and found that it works to gently exfoliate my lips so that they don't get chapped. There is nothing worse than dried lipstick flaking off chapped lips!
Then I follow the directions on this lipstick which say that first you apply the colour to your lips with the applicator and then wait two minutes. If you are quick you can rub your lips together at the beginning of the wait but you have to do this fast before the product dries. At first this product glides on and you think that you are wearing a simple gloss. But after two minutes have gone by you find this lipstick has dried into an indelible stain.
After applying the colour and waiting you will find that your lips start to feel a bit dry. At this point you apply the clear lip gloss from the other end of the tube. This adds shine to your lips so you are left with bright, shiny, pretty lipstick on.
I haven't checked whether this lipstick lasts a full 18 hours but I do find that it lasts a full working day, although it is not as bright (and certainly not as shiny) at the end of the day as at the beginning. Still, it certainly lasts longer than most lipsticks and doesn't damage the condition of my lips.
This lipstick costs around £7-8 at superdrug and can sometimes be found online for less.
I must confess that I don't buy or wear make-up very often, as I don't really have the time or inclination and can't really justify spending obscene amounts of money on what is essentially coloured grease. Because of this, I normally make do with cheap and not-so-cheerful products, rarely buying recognizable brands. However, I was shopping in my local Tesco Extra store this week and noticed they were clearing out a discontinued range of Maybelline cosmetic products at sensible prices and before long I found myself rummaging through the bargain bin. The product I eventually bought was a Maybelline 18 hour Superstay lipstick priced at just £3.98.
The manufacturer claims that this two-part product will give lasting colour for 18 hours whilst the conditioning balm provides super soft lips. I am always sceptical about such claims, as I have had so many lipsticks in the past that have not fulfilled such promises, but given that Superstay was on offer, I thought I'd give it a try.
The product itself is contained in a double ended tube - one end contains the coloured lip gloss with application wand and the other end contains a conventional lip balm-like clear gloss. The fruity smelling coloured gloss is applied first and needs to be left to dry for two minutes before applying the conditioning balm over the top. The colour I chose was rose quartz which is a fairly neutral shade of pink with an almost sparkly wet-look finish which I was delighted with. Apparently, Maybelline manufacture 26 shades in this range so there is something for everyone, particularly if you like a rich moist look. Does it stay on for 18 hours? The simple answer to this is "Yes" and best of all after 18 hours the shiny colour looked almost as good as it did immediately after application. To my surprise there was little fading and few signs of wear throughout the course of the day even after eating. In fact the lipstick stayed on so well it was a bit of a challenge to remove afterwards and I have found that an oil based make-up remover does the trick, you will not shift this lipstick easily with ordinary make-up remover wipes - I've tried.
I can therefore conclude that this product looks great, feels great and does indeed last for over 18 hours. How refreshing it is to find a relatively inexpensive cosmetic product that performs so well. Highly recommended.
I've tried many different lipsticks which claim to be super long lasting, but ultimately have been left disappointed. Most ultimately fade or rub off during the course of the day, leaving just a lipstick outline around your lips. When I saw the Maybelline Super Stay lipstick I thought I would give it a try as not only did it offer 18 hours of colour, but it also came with a conditioning balm and it wasn't as expensive as similar products can be.
I'm the kind of person who has neither the time, opportunity nor inclination to keep on reapplying lipstick during the course of the day. I want a product which I can apply in the morning and not think about again until I take my makeup off at night. This product fulfils all those needs.
The lipstick's wand is shaped well for application to the lips and the conditioning balm relieves the lips of the dryness associated with most long lasting lip colours. The balm also creates a nice and subtle shine; although this doesn't last long, but it could be reapplied to maintain the effect (but that kind of defeats the purpose!).
I have found this lipstick to be extremely long lasting. It's great to be able to apply it first thing in the morning or before you go out at night and then just forget about it. I is completely non transferable and it doesn't seem to be effected by eating drinking or kissing! The range of colours is great and I especially like the fact that you can apply a thin layer of colour for a more subtle look, or apply a second layer for more drama. I have also found that this lipstick works very well underneath the Too Faced Lip Injection lip plumper.
I really do think this is one of the best long lasting lip colours on the market. I can vouch that it last for at least ten hours; who knows it may last eighteen, but I've never worn it for that long!
When I was younger my absolute style icon was Courtney Love, I used to love her style in clothes, her hair colour and especially her bright red lips, which I used to copy with cheap red lipsticks, Looking back now, I actually know that the lipstick never suited me, and I never wore any lipsticks ever again. And just always wore lip glosses, but on TV saw the advert for Maybelline 18 Hour Super Stay Lipstick, and I thought it looked really good and looked very lip glossy for a lipstick, so I gave it some thought. And in Boots, armed with enough points to buy it, I'd thought I'd give it a go, what can I loose?
In my larger Boots store, there was a huge range of Maybelline 18 Hour Super Stay Lipstick shades, and it took me ages to choose which shade I wanted, in the end Natural Sand 750, which was a pale pink colour, which I thought would be more natural then the more red colours on my skin. There was pretty much a colour for every skin colour and for everyones tastes in lip colour out of 26 shades, there is always something for everyone!
The application is fairly unique and I've never used any product like this before, first you put on the lip colour from one side of the tube, the little wand is the usual one you apply lip glosses with, and it allows you to apply a small amount of the actual lipstick, but enough to cover the lips very well, so therefore the Lipstick will last much longer. Then once the Lipstick is dried on your lips, you apply the coat of clear Lip Gloss, which adds a shine to the lips and apparently helps the Lipstick colour stay on your lips for much longer. Also the Gloss has a nice fruity smell, which I really did love, and it wasn't to strong either, just perfect in my opinion.
The Lipstick looked fairly pretty, and I did think the colour was a very good choice (and it does impact on the result if you have a badly chosen shade.) but the Gloss looked really good on lips, it makes them look shiny and beautiful, but some people don't like the Glossy look on lips, so if not, this probably isn't the product for you.
But now the big test, does it last for 18 hours as promised? I applied the Lipstick, and decided to go out shopping and have some lunch with my friends. The Lipstick lasted throughout the shopping session, and even my friends said that my lips look amazing, so was very impressed. Having lunch, I thought that the Lipstick would be faded or wiped off, but how wrong I was. The lipstick lasted throughout lunch, although it did fade a little, it wasn't hardly noticeable at all. Wow, I was very, very impressed.. Although I didn't test it for 18 hours, I did notice some fading towards the end of the night, and would of needed reapplying, so I doubt it would of lasted for 18 hours, but who wears lipstick for 18 hours a day?! I was still pretty impressed with the result.
Maybelline Super Stay 18 hour Lipstick is available at Boots and Superdrug, for a larger range of shades, got to bigger stores, and is priced around 6-8 pounds each.
Always bought this lip colour and loved it , best thing since sliced bread...then Maybelline had to go and mess it up and bring out a 'new' version which is very disappointing.
There is no boldness to the colour any more and not only were the code numbers changed but the colour descriptions.
The 'updated' one seems to have changed dramatically and its like a new product! It's very patchy to apply and you need a good 2-3 applications which then dries your lips out terribly and only lasts for 3-4 hours if you are lucky!
Really is not worth the money and would be better to just buy your normal lipstick/lipgloss and just apply throughout the day- atleast that way your lips will remain moist!
Another thing i found was that after a few hours it goes quite hard and flakey on your lips, it doesn't make them kissable, it makes them look diseased!
I use this product quite regularly although it is not my favourite product. It has an ok range of colours depending on your taste. Once applied allow the product to dry before adding the moisturiser otherwise you will wipe off the lipstick. Once the moisturising coat is applied it really creates a beautiful finish but you will need to re-apply the top coat quite often to keep your lips from drying out. It doesn't last as long as some of the other products on the market however it lasts a good few hours. One draw back is that you don't really get a lot for your money and it won't be long before you are re-purchasing the product if you are using it every day. The range really lacks dark colours which aren't too dramatic some of the colours are a little wishy washy. I like deep red/brown/plum colours which aren't too dramatic. It's reasonably priced pretty average compared to similar products.
Being a busy gal about town, I like to get dressed, do my hair and do my make-up, just ONCE a day-I can't be doing with reapplying my make-up, and I also don't have time for lipstick that smudges right off, so I've always taken a keen interest in any stay on lipstick products.
I've tried the earlier ones (too drying, rank colours or just too expensive to spend in one go on one lipstick) but Maybelline Superstay is the best.
I saw it on offer for about a fiver in Superdrug, once upon a time so thought I'd give it a go, and I was impressed-there is a fantastic range of colours that appeal from the wall flower to the Stepford wife to the femme fatale alike.
The lipstick is creamy to apply, and slightly sticky for a few seconds until it dries, but once it does, it's there all day. (however, I like to apply a THIN layer of shade 416 to be more subtle when I'm doing the natural look-the thinner layer does need to be reapplied after a few hours, but looks gorgeous and very...er...natural!)
A gripe I have had with these kind of lipsticks in the past is that I like to forget about the top coat-I'm much more a matte gal, and apart from anything else, I hate getting my hair stuck in a load of gunky gloss on a windy day-and usually it becomes flaky and cracked looking-not good. But with Maybelline superstay, it's much more flexible and looks great with or without the top coat.
Another good thing is that the packaging has improved-rather than having to add two more tubes to your make-up bag, they combined the lippy and the gloss into one double ended tube-it also makes it less likely that you will go out with one and not the other. (Although, it's difficult to get the last few applications out-at least with lipfinity you could click the end of the bottle in and out and get another week or two's worth!)
The aren't bad for the current price (about £7.99 in the shops) which is good value for money when you think about how long it lasts (using mine matte, one can last me for over 6months with daily usage) but it still seems a bit much for a lipstick. (I lost my make-up bag a few months ago and replacing everything all at the same time made me keel over when I realised how much it all adds up to and I don't like to think that I could go to Paris for a weekend for the cost of a few items out of my make-up bag.)
Thanks for reading :)
I am one of these people that want to put makeup on in the morning and then not have to think about it all day. I dont want to do regular touch ups and havent often the time at work for a coffee never mind a reapplication of products.
I have tried superstay lipsticks before but the gloss was usually quite heavy and so even though the colour didnt transfer, the gloss was sticky and gooey and ended up everywhere. I was delighted to see that this gloss was in the form of a solid stick rather than the usual non drying varnish that I had seen before.
I tried the colours on my hand and they decidedly stuck there. They are removable with waterproof makeup remover. Impressed I decided to get a few and give them the "life test".
There is a wide range of colours and it is impossible to "buy blind" as unfortunately the colour descriptions ares not all really accurate. For example I purchased one called "brilliant bronze" which you may think would be golden or even worse - orange. It was however a sparkly pinky brown colour. "Sparkling Fuscia" was however much more what you might expect. If you find a colour that you like you will have to remember the name or keep the box as unfortunately the name is not on the stick.
The lipstick is double ended with the colour at one end and the gloss at the other. The instructions require you to put on a thin coat of the colour and allow it to dry completely before putting on the "condition and shine balm"
The drying process takes less than a couple of minutes. I once forgot that I hadnt put on the balm and went out of the house with just the base coat. This was a big mistake, my lips felt dry and miserable until I finally got my hands on some gloss. Once the official balm is applied however, your lips feel really conditioned and healthy and are super shiny, but without the nasty sticky , hair attached to face effect of other gloss products. The balm also brings out the colour af the base and it really does look fabulous.
The test of time.
Well this is the bit that is really interesting and what ultimately and product that calls itsself 18hr superstay should be judged on. On the 18hr version, the instructions say nothing about reapplying the balm. I have worn this product for 12hr days without reapplying anything, however at the end of this time, the balm has worn off and the base colour looks a bit whitened although remarkably it is still there. The 16 hr version tells you to reapply as required and this would likely help. There is however insufficient balm supplied with the 18 hr version to enable you to reapply without running out of it, prior to finishing the base coat.
It is also annoying that the applicator does not reach to the very bottom of the base coat pot and so there is wastage (or fiddling around). The balm too, traps product as you cannot wind it fully out.
Think it retails for around £7.99 though mine was on offer in tesco for £5.99
In conclusion - I love this product as it lasts considerably longer than any other lipstick I have tried and is a lovely non greasy alternative to other versions. There should however be some small print regarding the exact conditions under which 18hrs were achieved. There should also be a longer applicator in the base coat, and separate sales of the balm stick, which is also great on its own.
I am not a huge buyer of make up as I tend to find the prices of most make up to be too expensive for me and I often don't buy new make up for months unlike a lot of women who will often buy new stuff weekly or even daily! So when I do buy make up it takes me ages to decide which ones to purchase and I really resent parting with my cash for such a small item and I need to know it will be the best for me so that I don't feel I've wasted my money!
This was how I came to end up spending just over £17 in one go in Boots because of an offer that was on and knowing I was at the point that I could not put off buying a new mascara or foundation for much longer - now I know £17 is not much really in the grand scheme of things considering how often I actually do buy make up but, to me it was quite hard to spend that on make up!! So what was it I bought? Well I got three Maybelline products as it was buy 3 for 2 and as I needed a foundation and Mascara and it would have been stupid not to get a third item free so I got a nice lip colour too!
The one I got is the Super stay lip colour in shade 510 which is named 'red passion'. The lip colour is a two step application in a long tube.
The packaging is pretty distinguishable as it has a bright red and silver card pack. In fact this is what made me spot it on the shelf. The cardboard front bit has a section cut out so that you can see the tube inside. The tube that actual lip colour is in is silver. The tube a lid on both ends - one contains the colour and the other contains a lip gloss. The end with the lip colour is a screw top and the gloss end is a pull off top.
The lip colour:
As I mentioned I chose the shade 'red passion' which was simply because one of my friends had a red lip stick on my hen night that I used and it stayed on pretty much all night without me re applying it. The red was really bright and eye catching and ever since I have wanted something similar to use but, because I am so fussy about spending money on make up that I might not use I haven't been able to justify buying one until now. As this would be the cheapest item out of my 3 I was getting and therefore be the free one I could at least get this without the worry that I had paid for it if it wasn't what I was after! So this is how I ended up buying the lip colour in that shade and I really have to mention how striking a shade of red it is!! When I arrived home I was keen to try it straight away and it at first made me think I might have bought a red that was too bright! However it really is a truly lovely colour once it dries. The lip colour tube is quite short and I wonder how long it will actually last me - however when you do pull the wand out I notice it only has a small amount on the brush. Initially this doesn't seem enough to cover the lips but, amazingly it does so I guess this is why the tube is smaller.
Altogether there are 26 shades available to choose from including this one I have.
The lip gloss:
The gloss is white and much longer than the colour side of the tube. The gloss has a very slight scent to it which I would describe as slightly fruity. The gloss is the perfect companion to the lip colour as it really does add a perfect shine to the colour and the best thing is I can re apply this as I should need to. I like that the tube has the gloss as I will definitely take this out with me in my handbag as I can then touch up without having to use the colour just to give my lips some extra oomph. I noticed as well that none of the colour came off onto the gloss which is good as it means the gloss doesn't become all discoloured and horrible looking.
When I initially applied the colour I was quite surprised at how far the little amount went. I also noticed how fast it dried too as I just about had enough time to spread it over my lips before it started to 'set'. I realise now this is how the colour and gloss work so well together as once the colour had dried I tried to rub my lips together and they were very dry feeling yet, as soon as I applied the gloss they were silky and felt lovely to rub together. What I would say though is if you smudge any by mistake get it off very quickly otherwise you will have to start all over again as the colour doesn't come off easily at all!
Well the packaging says 12 hours - I got home and about 4 hours later it was still on my lips as shiny as when I first put it on. 'Aha!' I hear you say - that would be why as I haven't been out and about wearing it or on a night out maybe having a few drinks. Well yes but, I did bring home a subway sandwich with me which I actually munched through after applying my lip colour and lo and behold after a rather large and very stuffed sandwich (of which was quite spicy hence needing quite a big drink) the lip colour was still very nicely applied! To say I was impressed is an understatement! Of course there is always the possibility I haven't bought a lip stick or lip shade of any kind in the last couple of years that I probably don't know that most lip sticks are this durable now but, all the same it is doing what I have wanted it to do and that is to stay on my lips even after having a drink and food. I am not sure if it will last the full 18 hours as only time will tell ( no pun intended! ) but, as long as I know it can do what I need it to then I am happy with it so far.
If buying on its own the lip colour is displayed at £7.99. When I got to the till it came up as £7.82 which I think might be to do with the VAT - either way you're looking at just short of £8. Quite pricey but, after trying this I am perfectly happy to say it is worth it. In fact I wanted to go back and get another shade!! Of course if you buy three items at the moment then it is 3 for 2 so if Maybelline is a product you use then it may be worth trying this now whilst you can get it free.
When my husband walked in from work the first thing he said was 'Wow! That's bright!' So once again it has done what was intended as it has stayed put for a good amount of time even after having something to eat and drink and has stood out which is what I also wanted a bright red colour for! The good coverage only a small amount gives is excellent and even though it is not cheap, the price for what it does is worth it. I have finally found an item I can honestly justify buying and I will certainly be buying a couple more colours in the range. Definitely recommended.
A double ended package consists of a transfer resistant lip colour and a conditioning balm for fantastic stay-put, non-drying lip colour all day long!
