Maybelline's 'the Colossal Volum' Express Mascara is, unfortunately, a colossal letdown in my humble opinion! Us girls are always on the lookout for the perfect mascara that will make us look as we have naturally bountiful dark, thick, lush lashes but this quest does not end with this product! The mascara comes in a thick, bright yellow, very robust looking tube which makes you think of volume as does the mascara wand which is similarly large and robust, all of which bodes well for application but although it does deliver a very good colour pigment ('Glam Black' is of the blackest black) it does not give the volume to lashes as claimed. The mascara goes on thickly but not in the desired way. It causes lashes to clump together in places, requiring additional separation and also leaves excess product on lashes and annoyingly because of the size of the brush often on the eyelid itself!. Can be bought cheaply on-line and if you don't mind having to separate your lashes after application or remove any excess product then you might consider buying it.
With so many different mascara's on the market today it is important for them to have an edge, a uniqueness that is there selling point and with this mascara there is nothing. It wear off during the course of the day very quickly, it does go on fairly well and doesn't clump but your eye lashes certainly do not have colossal volume with this product. I bought as a one off as I needed a quick replacement for my usual brand and was disappointed to say the least. It was thrown away as soon as I bought my usual brand as there was no point in keeping it. This is the only maybeline mascara I have tried and it has not enticed me into trying another. The price is at the cheaper end of the market and the product explains why, it is not worth the same price as other brands out there.
I was looking for a new mascara and a couple of friends had suggested to me to get the Maybelline colossal volume mascara as they really liked the brush and the way it applied. I was also curious to try it so I thought I'd buy it when it was on offer in boots. It usually retails at £7.19 at Boots. I really liked the look of the brush and had seen the effect it had on my friends eyelashes; big and beautiful! Unfortunately, I bought the waterproof version of this, thinking that it was a good idea for when I went to the beach and swimming, so that I wouldn't have to re apply make up after. I also thought it would be a good idea for rainy days when I don't have an umbrella! The Waterproof version is pretty much the same as the normal version in terms of product design, except for the fact that any metallic purple bits on the normal version are a metallic turquoise colour on the waterproof version. The tube is a bright eye catching yellow and is in a curved shape with flat surfaces on the top and bottom. The brush is made of plastic and the bristles are very long and good at catching your eyelashes. Eyelashes instantly look bigger and better, and are easily separated by the brush. Buying the waterproof version was a BIG mistake. When they say it's waterproof, they really mean it. It literally will not come off. I used to use a facial cleanser to remove my make up, but now I have to use make up wipes and make up lotions as it is just such a pain to take off. It also rips half of your eyelashes out too when you attempt to remove it, and this can be painful and unpleasant. You really have to scrub at it to get it to come off and this is not what I paid for. It also does not smell the best either, I cannot describe the smell but all I can say is its definitely not natural. It is a shame that the waterproof version is like this, as I really like the effect the brush and the mascara gives. I would probably buy it again, just next time I won't be buying a waterproof one.
Diving into my huge mascara collection this is still the one that I pick up most often, despite the fact that I have many more new ones with various effects. Here are my thoughts. Packaging This is bright yellow with purple under the lid and purple writing. This is great as it stands out straight away in my mascara bag so I can just grab it. The plastic is of greatly quality and this can shut airtight. This should be a given with mascaras to keep them moist and fresh but unfortunately this does not happen as often as it should so this is a huge advantage here. There is also a cat eyes version of this mascara and unlike that one the brush here is straight and fairly thin with one bristles. Formulation This mascara is nice and thick and goes easily on the lashes. One of my favourite things is that not only does it gives volume as promised this also gives amazing length. The lashes do not clump and even without an eyelash curler (I really should use one but don't) there is a decent curl too. I read an another dooyoo review a few days ago that the best way to apply mascara is on the top first and then the the other way. After trying this I can I say I agree and it made this mascara work even better. This is also a very true black which I like in a mascara, as I need my lashes to stand out. There is one issue with this mascara (but I find this with most Maybelline ones) is that it takes a while to dry, when I a wearing contact lenses this is not an issue but as I wear glasses half this time this can mean me sitting there with blurry vision for a couple of minutes so it doesn't mark them. We have had some good weather here the last few weeks and as this is probably my third summer using this mascara I can say it is sweat proof. It does not last a shower but it is not advertised as waterproof so I would not expect that. Price and Availability This normally retails in Boots and Superdrug for about £7.99 but I can see this is one Amazon for £2 less. This is an absolute bargain. For a mascara that does not dry up in the container, creates beautiful lashes, doesn't flake and can last a very hot day I think even £7.99 is amazing. Conclusion I will continue to buy this product and would recommend it to anyone who wants long pretty lashes.
PRODUCT ------------ In the past I have never had an excuse in needing to wear mascara. This was the first one I ever brought and I only brought it because all my friends wore it and I felt left out. I tried one mascara whilst getting ready for Prom when my friend was doing my make-up. I told her mascara did not suit me but she insisted. Anyway, the situation ended up in her taking it off because I was right. A couple of years down the line I brought this to just use with one coat and again it did not suit me. However, when I wear foundation and liquid eyeliner this product really emphasizes the blackness around my eyes in just one coat and ever since I have used it everyday. The product makes my eyelashes darker and thicker and I really admire this. The product itself comes in a cardboard container with the branding logo on. The card is half yellow and half black. This matches the outer product casing and the black mascara substance inside. The case is see through so that you can see the product you are buying. The tube itself is yellow and it has the branding logo on it in purple. Though I have noticed this item with black writing upon it now instead of purple. The container is in a nice slim shape and is very attractive. I find the applicator stick very effective and easy to use. It makes my eyelashes look a lot fuller quicker. COST & RECOMMEND --------------------------- I bought mine around two years ago for £6.99 in Superdrug. Though this sounds a little steep I find that considering this product has lasted me almost two and a half years that is is value for money. Though I don't use it as much as most girls so I'm guessing it would last others a little less. I know that you are not meant to use it for that long, but I won't waste it if ti still works. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who wants a product that will last them and that makes there eyelashes thicker and not longer.
I bought this mascara a couple of months ago perhaps.. I bought this because it was on offer (I love that Maybelline always do the best offers, money off, 3 for 2 etc.) Anyway, a short version is... I still use it this day! It really is a fantastic mascara, the effect it gives on your eyelashes is great! You will most definitely be receiving some compliments. Teamed with a dash of liquid eyeliner on your top lid, and your eyes really are amazing! It doesn't dry up too quickly at all, mine lasted for roughly 2-3 months, and that was with daily use, so really good life! It isn't too expensive, around £6-£8 depending on if there are offers on at the time, but it is 100% worth the money! I would happily recommend to a friend :-)
~ Why I Bought It ~ I bought this mascara mainly because it was on offer but also because I really liked the bright, eye-catching packaging. ~ Price ~ The retail price for this mascara is around £7 which is a reasonable price in my opinion and I'd happily pay the full price if I do re-purchase the mascara when I've used my current tube of it up. I only paid around £4 for my mascara due to it being on offer at the time and I am very pleased with my bargain! ~ My Opinion ~ I bought this mascara from Superdrug around two months ago. It was amongst all of the products on offer and there were a lot of mascaras to choose from but this one caught my eye because of the bright, colourful packaging which I really liked. I have a few Maybelline cosmetics and I've never had a bad product from this brand so I decided to buy the mascara to try. The mascara comes in two shades - black and 100% black. As I have dark lashes I decided to get the 100% black but the colour isn't actually any more intense or defining than an average black mascara. As far as I know there isn't any lighter colours which I guess might be a disadvantage for fair haired people. The mascara comes in a chunky, bright yellow tube which looks more like a toy than a mascara at first glance! I really like the chunky design, and it doesn't actually take up much more room in my make-up bag than my slender mascaras. The tube stands out from the others by a mile and I really like the novelty of such a bright, fun looking tube. The lid screws off and it has a long wand attached to it which has a large brush on the end of it. The brush is pretty bulky and larger than an average mascara brush and it is covered in long soft bristles. Most of the bristles are pretty long and thick but there are also a few shorter bristles. To be honest the size of the brush did put me off initially. It just seemed so big that I was worried it wouldn't be very accurate and I'd end up with mascara all over my eye lids and eyebrows! The brush coats each of my eyelashes in the lightweight formula and even after one coat I am able to see a difference - it lifts my lashes and adds noticeable length. After one coat there wasn't really a significant improvement in how volumised my lashes looked, but after three to four coats my lashes were really thick and long and I am impressed each time I use the mascara. It could be built up even more as it doesn't feel heavy on my lashes as the formula is light and it doesn't clump up. The only bad thing is that I have to be really careful when I use it on my bottom lashes because of the large brush and its pretty much impossible to apply it without making a mess when it comes to using it on my bottom lashes but its nothing a little bit of makeup remover can't sort out! The lasting power of the mascara is pretty good. I tend to wear a couple of coats of it if I'm going somewhere like the supermarket or town - basically when I'm not going anywhere special but I still want to look like I've made a little effort with my make-up. It lasts for a good four to five hours before it starts to look less impressive but its another few hours before it begins to look old and dry. It doesn't flake which is a big advantage and it doesn't smudge easily. It has also never irritated my eyes in the couple of months I've used it and it doesn't smell strong like some mascaras can do. It is easy to remove with a few cotton pads that have been soaked in makeup remover and I don't have to tug my lashes around when I'm trying to get it off - it isn't a stubborn hard to remove mascara. The one I have isn't waterproof however there's a waterproof version available. ~ All in All ~ I would definitely recommend this mascara! I am going to give it five out of five stars as it has a lightweight, long lasting formula and it does make my lashes look more volumised as well as noticeably longer with just a few coats. It doesn't clump up or flake and I'm really pleased with it.
I was drawn to this mascara due to it's vibrant coloured packaging and for the price, it seemed like very good value for money compared to how much many other mascaras cost. The mascara is exactly what I was expecting for a Maybelline product. It gives my lashes a nice black colour and helps to extend the lashes, without too much clumping of the product. I do find that it needs a couple of coats of the product in order to extend my lashes as much as I would like, and to ensure they are black enough, however, this is true of most mascaras. The one issue that I've had with this mascara is that it has a very unpleasant smell. A strong smell came from the product as soon as I opened it for the first time, and weeks down the line it is still emanating from the product. I hoped that the smell would disappear after a while, but I'm disappointed to find that it hasn't, which is annoying, especially considering that otherwise it is a good product for the price. I would buy this product again, in the hope that other versions do not have the same bad smell!
I have been using this mascara for a while now and am surprised to find I haven't already reviewed it because it is a firm favourite. The mascara comes in a yellow elliptical shaped tube with purple shiny writing on it. The colours are very contrasting and bright and the mascara is therefore very eye catching in an aisle filled with boring black tubes. The tube is a nice shape and size which is easy to hold your hand while using. The overall design is nice and functional. The mascara brush is a lovely wide barrel brush which tapers slightly towards the far end. The bristles are evenly spaced apart and probably more widely spaced than other mascaras. The mascara fluid is a lovely deep black and quite wet and thin. Thin makes it sound terribly but by that I just mean it is fluid and lightweight which means that it dries hard on your lashes rather than being thick and sticky like some mascaras can be. I like the fluid the only thing you have to watch out for is that it can be a bit messy because it is very wet. The mascaras goes onto your lashes easily and coats them all evenly. The brush is best designed to get great length and separation, though it does go some way to adding volume too. I tend to boost this a little by using another mascara in conjunction with this to achieve the ideal look. The mascara retails at around £5.99 which is the cheaper end of the market. I think this is a really good value for money mascara that quite honestly is better than some of the more expensive brand mascaras I have used in the past. It is long lasting, you get pretty much the ideal look and can just boost it with the addition of a volumising mascara. Overall, this is a fab mascara and one I return to buy time and time again.
This Maybelline product is a great mascara and it makes your lashes look full and stand out. Unlike many other mascaras, they do not dry up as quick and last for much longer than you would expect. It is suited to people who have medium to long length lashes, although even people with short lashes will stand out. To apply, open the mascara by twisting the brush whilst you're pulling it out (to make sure it doesn't dry up), then pull the brush along your lashes not missing any, reapplying with a few more layers depending on how much you would like your lashes to stand out. To sum up, this is a great product and I highly recommend buying it if you're considering it. I still have this mascara and still enjoying using it as much as you will if you purchase it! Thanks for reading, hope this helped.
This is a very easy to use mascara which provides a full volumous look with little effort. The tube is easy to grip and the brush is gentle on lashes. To get the best effect from this mascara, I suggest applying your first layer until you are happy with the layout of your lashes, leave it to dry and then apply another in order to maintain your desired look for the rest of the day. At first I did not think the chunky brush would make a great shape to the lashes but it does and it makes them look amazing. I have been using this product since it first launched and am always receiving compliments about my eyelashes and people trying to guess whether they are fake or not. Some people may feel the effect is a bit much for day time but for nights out and such, its just finishes the look off perfectly. I would recommend this to absolutely anybody who was looking for a new/amazing mascara. I use this for everyday use and if I am going out at night, I just add a third layer. Last the whole day and the whole night aswell and on the rare occasions where I havent washed my make-up off, the lashes still look good in the morning!!
Mascara would be one of my favourite make up accessories, I usually do not really leave the house without it on as I have really short, boring lashes that aren't really that black or curled. Application This mascara is really easy to apply, you simply drag it through your lashes carefully like you would any other mascara. The head on this mascara is quite thick and the bristles are nicely placed to allow easy application. Results I really like this mascara, however it does not work miracles like advertised. The results that I get from this mascara are more subtle, making it more of an everyday mascara for me. I like how my lashes curl and look much darker and fuller when I use this mascara, however the results are not over the top and look more subtle than I expected. I find that this mascara dries on my lashes easily, it does not come off really easily and if I wipe my eyes, it does not end up all over my face. I found that this mascara does not irritate my eyes or make them itchy in any way. It is easily removed with make-up remover, however it does not come off easily with water. Price and Availability You can buy this mascara in Boots for £7.99, I think that this isn't a bad price for a mascara, especially one of this quality. Sometimes Boots puts on a 3 for 2 offer on their make up so it is best to keep an eye out for this. Overall I think that this is a very nice mascara to use every day. It doesn't give really dramatic results, but it does make my lashes look full and gives them a bit of volume. Overall I would give this mascara 4 out of 5 stars. *also on ciao under lorrainek90
Naturally I have short and fair eyelashes, meaning that without mascara my eyes do not make a statement. Since I started using Maybelline the collossal volum' express mascara about 3 years ago I have had compliments on a weekly basis about my eyelashes - some people even asking if they're real! I use the 100% black version as I think it is a little more dramatic, although some people may not be able to see a difference. The mascara itself lasts about 2 months if used everyday and does not need a large amount to be used every time. Too much on the brush would lead to clumpy lashes but with the large shaped brush I find that any clumps simply get brushed out leaving you with fanned out and glamorous lashes. When it's used I even wash out my old ones to use as eyelash brushes for special occasions. It's not expensive (about £7.50) but even better when there's an offer on. TRY THIS PRODUCT! It adds thickness and length to dull, 'barely-there' lashes.
This used to be my go to mascara a few years ago, it had just came out and I thought as I was really getting into make up at the time I would buy an expensive one (obviously since then I know it's not that expensive compared to others!) plus I LOVED the chunky colourful tube which made it look fun. It was about £8 when I first bought it but I always see it on offer for atleast £5 nowadays. This was the first rubber brushed mascara I ever used too, which are known for creating lots of length. It was very easy to hold and apply and made my lashes extremely thick and dark which I loved it also made my lashes look a lot longer too. The mascara lasted all day but would flake a bit if I touched my eyelashes. It was also quite tough to remove at the end of the day, I often had to use warm water and a flannel to gently rub it away which left my eyes quite red. However I loved the mascara so much that it was worth it. After about 3 months it goes a little thick and takes longer to put on which is annoying too but mascaras should be changed often to be hygienic. I had first purchased the not waterproof one mascara and had no problem with it but still bought the waterproof version (the purple parts of the mascara are blue on this one) when I ran out of this one. I didn't really notice any difference between them at all though, they both stayed on and didn't run and were both just as hard to remove. I also purchased the 'Falsies' purple tube which is purple and has a curved brush which helps add a curl to your already thick dark and long lashes which is a great plus! I used to sometimes use both to work up a really dramatic look. I have since moved on from the Maybelline Colossal Mascaras as I have grown up a bit and prefer a subtler volumous eyelashes without the 'false lash look' and buy mascara that are double the price of these. However as I will be a full time poor student next year I will have to go back to cheaper brands and I will most likely return to these! one star less because it is tough to remove!
Needing a new mascara recently I did the usual and scooted to my local Superdrug store to check out what they had on offer. As mascara junkies like myself will know; the world of mascara can be a somewhat boggling one, particularly with all the various types including those that promise to create volume, curl, length, definition or a waterproof finish. Being that my time was running out and due to it being on offer I opted for the Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express Mascara in glam black. ------The Product------ This mascara has been designed to produce colossal volume and as such the packaging mirrors these big claims being bright yellow in colour so as not to miss it. The mascara tube is rather similar in shape to a mini torpedo and is illustrated with purple text telling you of the type of mascara inside. A unique little feature in the design of this mascara bottle in my opinion is the recessed area between the lid and the body which is purple in colour to match the text. This mascara bottle opens like any other by simply unscrewing the lid. The lid serves as the base for the mascara wand which has a black stem and a bright yellow wand to match the bottle. The wand is straight in shape and has a plethora of small soft spikes to enable the mascara to be spread easily through your eyelashes. The mascara is a dark black in colour and looks exactly the same in consistency as any other mascara. It is worth noting that his mascara comes in two types those being waterproof and washable which are both in identical yellow tubes. The packaging differs in so far as the colour of the text on the bottle with the washable option (which I have) having purple text and the waterproof option having blue text. ------Maybelline Claims------ As with any makeup product there are usually a fair amount of claims from the manufacturer and this mascara is no different. Maybelline claim that this mascara has the following three features:- 1. Produces colossal lashes in just one coat with no clumps. 2. Creates 9x the lash volume instantly. 3. Has a collagen formula and mega brush to plump the lashes. They also state that this product is safe for contact lens users and is ophthalmologist-tested. ------Price and Availability------ I bought a case of this mascara from my local Superdrug and paid £4.99 for it, which I consider a bargain given the amount of use an average bottle of mascara gives. However, when not on offer it can usually be purchased for around the £6 - £8 mark from all good pharmacy, cosmetics and supermarket stores. ------Application------ In my experience, it is usually best to apply all your makeup first and then use mascara and lip-gloss as the finishing touches. To apply simply pull the wand out from the mascara case and wipe across the eyelashes in one liberal coat. Maybelline claim that this mascara should only need one coat, however should more be required they say that you should not wait for the first coat to dry before applying the second. This mascara dried very quickly in my opinion and I found I was ready to go in a matter of a couple of minutes. ------Results------ I have quite long eyelashes although not as thick as I would like. After one coat this mascara left my eyelashes looking longer and much more defined and after the second coat they did look bigger in volume. Although I think that the 9x volume may be a slight exaggeration, my lashes definitely had more impact and I would say they were more like 4x the volume. It did also leave no clumps as claimed by Maybelline. This mascara spread through my eyelashes well and dried quickly without leaving little blots of black mascara under my eyes. I also found that at the end of the day this mascara came off easily with my usual face cleanser and did not leave those irritating dark smudges which usually require a good deal of scrubbing to remove and therefore irritate the delicate skin under your eyes. Overall this is a good mascara which did provide volume and definition to my eyelashes. I would therefore recommend it particularly for the price that it retails at as I do not believe you can go wrong for £4.99. 4 stars out of 5 from me! Thanks for reading!
For mega eyelash volume /
