Advantages: Makes lashes look more dramatic, larger brush makes application easy and fairly quick
Disadvantages: Doesn't provide the claimed volume, has a tendency to clog easily
I usually use Maybelline Great Lash mascara but as my tube of that has finally run out, I was casting around for a different mascara. I like Maybelline in general and was intrigued by the idea that this mascara could give my lashes up to seven times the volume.
***Application***
The brush is a fair bit bigger than the mascara brushes that I have been used to in the past and I can coat the majority of my lashes in one coat, which then just leaves the very outside of the lashes to coat using the tip of the brush. This means that it takes around three to four minutes to coat the upper and lower lashes of each eye, which is quicker than I'm used to.
The mascara does seem to have a tendency to clog your lashes so you may need to spend a few extra minutes with an eyelash comb to tidy things up.
***The Results***
My lashes look more dramatic and darker, but I can't say that I've noticed any significant difference in the volume and it is pretty much the same effects as the Maybelline Great Lash mascara that I was previously using. Because of this, I don't feel that it lives up to the advertising claims and just seems much the same as any other mascara. Based on this, I wouldn't advise buying this on the basis of the volume claims as my experience of using this mascara is not particularly favourable in that respect. It is absolutely fine if you just want to have a bog-standard mascara - albeit, a pretty pricey one!
*** The Price***
I got mine from Boots, where it set me back around £6.82. I was quite happy to pay this at the time as I genuinely hoped (rather naively, in all probability!) that I was paying for a mascara that would be something of a revelation to me. In all honesty though, I don't think that this mascara warrants that price tag as it is little more than a bog-standard mascara and you can undoubtedly pick up a cheaper option that does the same job. I wish that I had picked a different one now that I have had the experience of using it, however I will carry on using it as I am a bit of a cheapskate in that sense!
Summary: Not the worst mascara out there but don't buy on the basis of the volume claims

- 01/09/09 I often find that mascara doesn't do what it claims to do. I've given up believing the hype. I've noticed so have some brands, NARS for instance have two mascaras available, regular and waterproof. I think the only thing you can really do is curl the lashes or use fake ones, especially when the adverts have models with fake lashes "for an even lash line", even my a$$. :P
