As a girl addicted to make-up, compact powder is a must have for my every day make-up bag. I use it to prevent foundation damage from eyeshadow fallout and to finish my foundation/fix oily patches. I've gone through many different brands of compact powder but I'm currently using the Maybelline Dream Matte Powder.
I was first introduced to Maybelline Dream Matte Powder by my best friend, she said it was one of the best powders she had ever used! I was slightly confused though, both of us have had a bad history with Maybelline products in the past (their face products tend to be either orange or white, not a good look), but I was eager to give it a go - there's no one I trust more than my best friend, so when she recommends me something, it has to be good, right?
The powder comes in a gold/brown coloured plastic make-up pan with a clear section in the centre so you can see the powder inside. The brand and product name is printed on the front. On the back/underside of the pan is a sticker with the ingredients, company info and product colour on it. I bought 01 Rose Nude as I hadn't been tanning in a while, bring on the pale folk!
The plastic pan can be twisted in the middle to reveal a small makeup sponge and a mirror. The sponge isn't really a sponge though, it's more of a fleece to be quite honest with you - it's lovely and soft though, just not any good for applying make-up. The mirror is a mirror, what more is there to say?
You then flip up the top of the pan to reveal the powder, it's a nice, pale peach colour but it has a really weird scent. It's like dusty grandma or something. Ew.
I always apply powder with a big fluffy brush or a kabuki brush depending on the purpose of the powder. In this case it was to set my foundation - fluffy brush here I come. I swirled the brush in the powder and tapped of the excess then sweeped it all over my face. It worked perfectly as a translucent powder, but that's not what it's advertised as. It's advertised and powder foundation so in that case, it doesn't work at all. You have to understand that I adore this powder as a foundation setter, but I'm reviewing this against the advertisement in Boots which claims it's a foundation, and after I tried it on it's own as a foundation, it just doesn't cut it.
So, if you're looking for a translucent powder - go get this.
If you're looking for a dusty grandma to sweep on your face - go get this.
If you're looking for foundation - back the hell off.
You can find this at any Maybelline counter/stand and it next to the Dream Matte products (such as the famous Dream Matte Mousse - the make-up version of marmite). It varies in price and cost me around £5 when I bought it, but I've seen it at £7 and £4, so I really can't give an exact price. It's cheap though, so you won't be breaking the bank.
- good for setting foundation/hiding oily patches
- not good on it's own
- smells a little funky
- cheap
Thanks for reading!
