This product was one of my first Ebay purchases, and my very first highlighter. Back then Maybelline used to be one of the few makeup brands that I knew of, and as a result I mostly bought their stuff. However that doesn't mean it's a bad thing. here is my review on this mousse shimmer.
First of all, I got mine in the shade Porcelain, which I believe is the lightest one. The container is a small and round glass jar, with a plastic pearly pink lid. The glass itself is quite thick, thus making it hard to break or crack even if it's dropped. At least mine never cracked. So you could say that the packaging is quite decent.
The actual product looks like a frosty mousse, it's very velvety and soft to the touch, and once you touch it with your finger, you get some of it on your skin. No need to swipe your finger around. It can be easily blended into the skin with a circular motion, without leaving a powdery finish. The shade I have does not have any color in it when blended, but instead it gives a nice translucent glow to the skin. I noticed that it contains a number of different shimmers in it, so looking at it from different a angles, you can see a pinkish shimmer or a silver shimmer. I found that quite fascinating, and beautiful.
The way I used it is as follows: I applied a small amount on my cheekbones, just a bit lower than the outer corner of the eye, and sometimes on my cupid's bow. It certainly made my skin have a healthy glow, and helps bring dimension to my face.
What I did not like about this, is that sometimes it settled into my pores, making them even more visible than they already are. I have always had big pores so this would not happen with people who don't have this problem.
I'm wondering if this is the same product as the highlighter/shimmer sold in the UK, just repackaged/renamed for American release as a LE Holiday product.
I bought this for my face, hoping it would have a slightly more angelic, highlighting effect, but it doesn't really perform well in that respect. The pearlescance seems to disappear during blending, leaving only the glitter and a strange silveriness I'm sure Ziggy Stardust would appreciate.
But, it saved itself from the trash can and sweet-talked its way into my make-up case with it's ability as an eyeshadow primer. It not only eased the application process by providing a creamy surface to blend on, but also affords a wet, metallic sheen to the eyeshadows I apply over it.
You know what? I dusted off a pallette of offbrand shadows because of this stuff. That means that it made a good portion of 42 lackluster shadows that had been wasting space in my cabinet usable. This is good news, because it has (For now..) quelled my lust to buy UD shadows that I don't have the money for at the moment.
I feel that it deserves a four for its work as a primer, but had to take off one lippie for it utterly failing at it's intended purpose.
i love it as a highlighter!
on the bridge of my nose and on my cheekbones.
its really really sheer though . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . :)
This is a great product to highlight and define certain parts of your face. It's a great product by maybelline and I love it because it is so subtle so it's suitable to wear during the day. It can be used on your cheek bones and brow bone but I like to apply it on the apples of my cheeks after applying blush in order to give myself a healthy glow and on the bridge of my nose. I also like to apply in in the inner corners of my eyes to illuminate and highlight my eyes and make them appear bigger.
This is a great product for summer as it seems to sparkle in the sun, further highlighting your features and giving you a perfect glow for summer. It comes in two shades and I bought number 2 in champagne.
The creme texture also enables this product to blend right in so it doesn't just sit on your skin but blends it to look more natural. The container is very useful, just like the container of maybelline's creme blush. It comes in a glass pot which is transparent so you can see the product and is small enough to fit in any makeup bag.
I reccomend this product to every woman who wants a lovely subtle and healthy glow for summer! It's a fantastic product!
I came across Dream Shimmer Mousse whilst at uni. My friend and I were getting ready for a night out and I saw her applying this and asked her if I could try it.
You apply it on areas that you wish to highlight i.e. cheekbones, brow bone etc. It is a very subtle highlight, that is very slightly shimmery under the light. I like this product as I don't usually wear a lot of make up as I feel that it is too heavy on my skin. I have not found this product to be heavy at all as you only need a small amount to achieve the right effect.
Due to the fact that I don't wear a lot of make-up I tend to go for products that are easy to apply as I don't want to end up looking like a pantomine dame! To apply the product it is simply a case of using either a sponge or your finger in the pot and then onto your face. If you do accidently use too much then simply wipe or dab with a tissue and the excess will come off easily. At the end of the night it is easy to remove too, which is always good to know after one drink too many!
The product stays put all night long, however I have found that it can 'melt' a little if you have put too much on and are in a hot environment (i.e. a club), which is not so nice as it can tend to look a little greasy. The pot is small enough to put in your evening bag though and so if this does happen a simple wipe and reapplication is all that is needed.
I am a big fan of Maybelline as their products are reasonably priced and always a good quality. This pot has lasted me ages, and their is still lots left to go. The only down side is that it might go out of date before I have chance to use it all!
I bought the two shades of dream mousse shimmer to highlight my cheekbones. I liked the quality of the dream matte mousse foundation and blusher and wanted a highlight to compliment it.
They only had two shades of these shimmers at boots and I decided to get both. The one shade was a golden champagne colour and the other was a petal pinky/ silver colour.
These shimmers are made up of the same mousse consistency like the foundation and the blusher. It's easy to apply onto the face, using your fingers and spreads out evenly and nicely. The only reason why I stopped using it is because I found that it didn't really show up that well on my skin, perhaps it's my skin tone. So I ended up giving these to my sister - who is 2 shades lighter than me - and she loves them.
This is a pretty mousse highlighter that is ideal for anyone on a budget as they're only about a fiver and last quite a long time.
Maybelline Dream Mousse Shimmer is something I picked up when looking for a few cheap items that would enable to me too look half decent whilst travelling when all my other make up was packed in my case. I got this really cheap from Ethel Austin, but the price you can expect to pay in places like Superdrug and Boots is £5.99.
The colour I have is called Bronze Beam and is actually more similar in colour to the mousse bronzers that Maybelline do. On the Maybelline website this shimmer is actually only available in two shades now which are both very light highlighter shades rather than any bronzer shades. I am wondering if this colour has been discontinued and replaced with their actual bronzers but you are still be able to get this via the internet.
Prior to using this I had used Maybelline's mousse foundation and blusher and they also have eye colours and a concealer in the range. I had been happy with the results other than the fact that I found the foundation to be drying to parts of my face that are prone to drying out (forehead, around the nose etc) so I discontinued to use it. The blusher I had no problem with, and again with this shimmer I have had no problems with.
The product is lightweight and air whipped and soft to the touch. It actually looks like edible mousse. The product feels soft and velvety to the touch and is easy to apply. The colour I have looks very dark and I had worried it might be too dark for my skin and look un-natural. However I needn't have worried as it gives a very natural sun-kissed glow. It's not too dark and definitely not orangey or fake looking, it's a subtle glow but enough to add a bit of colour and therefore 'health' to the face.
Because the product is so light and almost 'fluffy' in texture, it is really easy to apply and blend easily.
It comes in a pot that looks the same as all of the Maybelline mousse products. It's smaller than the foundation pot but bigger than the eyeshadows. The pots have both good and bad points. What is good is because it is a pot you will get every last bit of product, so there is no wastage here. The bad is that you have to dip your fingers in which is both unhygienic and also means that you get the product under your nails, particularly if you have long nails, so they do require a good cleaning after wards. You could always use a small spatula to get some onto your hand if you have one.
Maybelline says it blends beautifully for a soft radiant glow, and I agree completely that this is what it does. Maybelline also say it's perfect for highlighting and illuminating, which I think this is aimed at their newer skin tone colours but because this product is shimmery, although it is bronzing your skin it does also catch the light and therefore illuminate too. It really does make you have such a healthy glow.
It says it can be applied anywhere and although I've only used this on my cheeks it would be good as a bronzer anywhere that catches the sun (the nose, the forehead etc). I really do think it looks natural enough to do with this product and it won't look fake or silly. Also as it is easy to blend it won't create a stripy or patchy look.
On my pale as anything skin it doesn't look too dark and does add a bit of colour to the face well. It also looks so great with a tan as it really enhances it and gives it a more glowing healthy look.
For £5.99 I'm not sure I'd buy this product because it is something I can live without but if I was looking for a bronzer this would be my number one choice. It is available cheaper online so do look about, and also keep your eye out in Ethel Austin where unbelievably they do some great make up deals.
I've had mine since last August and the pot looks barely touched, you only need a tiny amount of this product each time so it does last well. That said I've not used mine on a daily basis, it's been more for when I have no other make up round at my boyfriend's house. I would say it would last a good few months if used daily though.
For a bronzer, it's the best most natural one I've tried. I also imagine the actual bronzer range in the Maybelline mousses will also be good. If you are looking for a bronzer with a bit of shimmer and a natural healthy glowing finish then this is definitely one for you.
