Advantages: Natural glowing colour, easy to apply and blend, no wastage

Disadvantages: Have to dip fingers into pot

Maybelline Dream Mousse Shimmer is something I picked up when looking for a few cheap items that would enable to me too look half decent whilst travelling when all my other make up was packed in my case. I got this really cheap from Ethel Austin, but the price you can expect to pay in places like Superdrug and Boots is £5.99.

The colour I have is called Bronze Beam and is actually more similar in colour to the mousse bronzers that Maybelline do. On the Maybelline website this shimmer is actually only available in two shades now which are both very light highlighter shades rather than any bronzer shades. I am wondering if this colour has been discontinued and replaced with their actual bronzers but you are still be able to get this via the internet.

Prior to using this I had used Maybelline's mousse foundation and blusher and they also have eye colours and a concealer in the range. I had been happy with the results other than the fact that I found the foundation to be drying to parts of my face that are prone to drying out (forehead, around the nose etc) so I discontinued to use it. The blusher I had no problem with, and again with this shimmer I have had no problems with.

The product is lightweight and air whipped and soft to the touch. It actually looks like edible mousse. The product feels soft and velvety to the touch and is easy to apply. The colour I have looks very dark and I had worried it might be too dark for my skin and look un-natural. However I needn't have worried as it gives a very natural sun-kissed glow. It's not too dark and definitely not orangey or fake looking, it's a subtle glow but enough to add a bit of colour and therefore 'health' to the face.

Because the product is so light and almost 'fluffy' in texture, it is really easy to apply and blend easily.

It comes in a pot that looks the same as all of the Maybelline mousse products. It's smaller than the foundation pot but bigger than the eyeshadows. The pots have both good and bad points. What is good is because it is a pot you will get every last bit of product, so there is no wastage here. The bad is that you have to dip your fingers in which is both unhygienic and also means that you get the product under your nails, particularly if you have long nails, so they do require a good cleaning after wards. You could always use a small spatula to get some onto your hand if you have one.

Maybelline says it blends beautifully for a soft radiant glow, and I agree completely that this is what it does. Maybelline also say it's perfect for highlighting and illuminating, which I think this is aimed at their newer skin tone colours but because this product is shimmery, although it is bronzing your skin it does also catch the light and therefore illuminate too. It really does make you have such a healthy glow.

It says it can be applied anywhere and although I've only used this on my cheeks it would be good as a bronzer anywhere that catches the sun (the nose, the forehead etc). I really do think it looks natural enough to do with this product and it won't look fake or silly. Also as it is easy to blend it won't create a stripy or patchy look.

On my pale as anything skin it doesn't look too dark and does add a bit of colour to the face well. It also looks so great with a tan as it really enhances it and gives it a more glowing healthy look.

For £5.99 I'm not sure I'd buy this product because it is something I can live without but if I was looking for a bronzer this would be my number one choice. It is available cheaper online so do look about, and also keep your eye out in Ethel Austin where unbelievably they do some great make up deals.

I've had mine since last August and the pot looks barely touched, you only need a tiny amount of this product each time so it does last well. That said I've not used mine on a daily basis, it's been more for when I have no other make up round at my boyfriend's house. I would say it would last a good few months if used daily though.

For a bronzer, it's the best most natural one I've tried. I also imagine the actual bronzer range in the Maybelline mousses will also be good. If you are looking for a bronzer with a bit of shimmer and a natural healthy glowing finish then this is definitely one for you.

Summary: One of the best bronzers!
