Advantages: Cheap

Disadvantages: Not that effective

I was on the look out for a new foundation a few weeks ago and am signed up to Maybelline's e-newsletter. (I had to be to enter one of their competitions.) So in their monthly email they sent me something introducing some of the new products they were launching. Dream Satin Liquid was one of them. As I had heard some good things about their Dream Matte Mousse I could not help but be intrigued especially when I saw the advert with the golf ball and the girl pours foundation over it and it goes all smooth. This supposedly represents the pores. Anyway I thought it looked worth a try. I was reluctant to pay full price for a bottle from the shops because it was so new I couldn't find out from anywhere whether it was any good or not. So I bought a small one from Ebay for a cheap price.

The tube it comes in is pretty standard but what is popular about this bottle design is that it incorporates a pump to dispense the foundation. This means that you don't risk bacterial contamination by dipping your hands into the bottle or pot over and over. The downside of this is that if your are over-eager with your pumping then you can get too much in your hand and you can't put the excess back so it gets wasted. Also it makes it harder to see when the bottle is almost finished and therefore needs re-purchasing. You get 30ml in a bottle and can choose from eight shades. The lightest one I tried is called Light Porcelain,

This can be used with a brush, sponge or your fingers. I think fingers is best as using a sponge can mean it soaks up the foundation so you get through much more than you would otherwise. I was impressed with the colour actually. Normally the lightest in most ranges is too dark for me so that was good that it wasn't all orange. When I put it on however I realised how light the coverage is. I could see all the blemishes and pigmentation on my skin that you would expect a foundation to cover up. Even with light translucent powder on top it still looked as if I had sweated all my make-up off which wasn't nice. Furthermore, it started to feel rather gunky as the day wore on and I was aware that it was coming off on my fingers if I touched my face. This would be great if you have flawless skin and just need to 'perfectify' yourself but for me the coverage is just too minimal.

This costs about £7.50 at full price and can be bought from Superdrug and Boots. As it's quite new I am not sure that independent chemists would have it yet.

Summary: Not my choice
