Advantages: Easy to apply, blends well
Disadvantages: leaves skin a little dry
Dry skin means I regularly try new foundations searching for one that doesn't flake off in unsightly pieces throughout the day. I'm also quite pale which is another obstacle in my search for a half-decent foundation. However, not being a girl too obsessed with make-up (I actually resent men not having to bother with it) I don't really like to spend a fortune on the stuff. Therefore I bought maybelline dream satin liquid when it was on offer for 6 pounds a few months ago in Boots. Since then I've found it to be a reliable, easy to apply if not exactly magical foundation. There is a fairly large range of shades to suit many skin tones and I opted for the "ivory" variety.
This foundation comes in a simple glass bottle with a pump-action top. The bottle is nothing special in itself but I do prefer this to over the top decoration. The ingredients(too many to list) are printed on a peel-back label on the reverse of the product so unless you buy it it isn't so easy to see if there is an element in there which you are allergic to. Try as I might, I cannot find the amount of foundation anywhere on the label or bottle which I find a little unusual. However, it must be less than 100ml in volume as I have taken it through several airport security points and they aren't half fussy about things like that.
It is very easy to apply the foundation using just fingers but a sponge could be used for blending purposes if you so wish. I simply squirt the amount of foundation required onto the palm of one hand before blending into my skin with my fingers(of the opposite hand obviously!) There is little mess and you can control the amount you want to come out pretty well so there is not very much wasted either.
I was quite pleased with the results and this is probably one of the better foundations I have tried. As I said earlier, I purchased the ivory shade and this was a good match to my natural skin tone. Happily, I didn't have a deathly pale palor or a strange orange glow after putting it on. Also, the foundation wasn't too runny and gave an even coverage. However, I would not describe the feeling of it as "satin" like and if anything it was a little dry. Nor did it give me an "airbrushed" finished as promised on the bottle.
In all I was fairly impressed with Maybelline's Dream Satin Liquid and will probably buy it again. It isn't too expensive and is frequently on special offer. More importantly I feel confident and comfortable wearing this foundation. There are probably better(and more costly) foundations around but this does meet my requirements. Dream Satin Liquid gives a good, if not exactly flawless, coverage and finish.
Summary: A decent foundation.
