Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid
Advantages: Decent price.
Disadvantages: Too heavy, too thick, not lightweight at all. Coverage is uneven
I have recently being using Maybelline Dream Air Mousse as my staple foundation but found their packaging annoying. I found that after the first few uses the foundation started to splatter out in mousse form all over the place and was getting everywhere. This was really disappointing as the product itself was amazing. But my bedroom carpet was starting to look like leopard print so I decided enough was enough. I decided to try Maybelline's Liquid Foundation for a change and opted for their Dream Satin Liquid.
The Dream Satin Liquid comes in decent sized glass bottles with a rump action applicator on the top complete with a clear plastic lid. This is a nice simple design and the Maybelline logo and information are clear visible on the main body. The foundation comes in 8 classic shades which are:-
The bottles are priced around £7.99 and can be found in most supermarkets and drug stores.
Maybelline claim that the Dream Satin Liquid provides a lightweight coverage, giving skin a luminous satin look. Maybelline also aim this foundation as those with sensitive skin or people who do not want foundation to clog pores but remain lightweight as the liquid is oil and fragrance free. Maybelline's tag line is that the foundation is "Air-whipped liquid provides perfecting coverage for 100% poreless skin.
You are instructed to apply the foundation in sweeping movements all over the face evenly and then blend with your fingertips. I liked the look of this foundation at is claimed to be easy to apply and offer full but lightweight coverage which is what I liked about the air whipped mouse Maybelline I had previously used.
The foundation is a thick liquid, and I found that about 1 and a half pumps were enough to do my whole face. I had expected the foundation to be quite runny but it is thick and holds its shapes when on your hand. The foundation had a smooth texture when you begin to apply it but was quite thick. I prefer to apply any foundation with a brush as I generally manage to get a better look using a brush but this foundation was far too thick.
I found that the only way I could apply it was to use my fingers and 'water' the liquid down with some moisturiser. The foundation really is far too thick and unlike its claims felt far too heavy on my skin. Another problem was the pigmentation of the liquid. I opted for my usual Maybelline foundation shade of Nude and when applied it had an orange hue about it. I have since experimented with how much I use and how I apply it but too little and the coverage is patchy and too much and I look like I have used a trowel!
I used the foundation for a fortnight everyday and in the end threw it away. I was very disappointed as every other Maybelline foundation I have used has been great and lovely and lightweight on my sensitive skin. The foundation is far from lightweight, its coverage is patchy and the liquid even has a slight musty fragrance to it which is very off-putting!
I will have to continue on my search for the perfect foundation!
Summary: A unusual dissapointment from Maybelline
