“ Brand: Maybelline / Gloss / Type: Lip Colour / Suitable for: Lip „
I am a huge make-up fan and in addition a huge Poundland fan (however embarassing that may be to admit) and so with the addition of the make up line in Poundland with brands such as Rimmel and Maybelline I am always popping in for a look to see if there is anything new. Recently I was in a store in another town that is larger than my local and so I popped in for a look and came across this gem of a gloss.
*~* Cost And Availability *~*
So as you've guessed I paid just £1 for my tube but everywhere else you are looking at around £4 - £6 the last time I saw it however by having a look on a few websites (Superdrug and Boots) I can't seem to see it advertised so it may be discontinued in these sorts of stores now? I know it was available as I have tried a tester a couple of years ago.
*~* Packaging *~*
My packaging was a tube placed within a transparent small bag so I can really only describe the tube it came in. It is very sleek and modern looking, a shiny silver tube about the size of a mascara or eye liner pencil. The only change in this look is a clear ring about a centimetre wide placed just below where the lid snaps shut (around 1/4 of the way into the tube) which displays the colour of the product. The lid is snapped shut tightly and after being bashed around a fair bit I have found it hasn't came out or leaked in the slightest which can sometimes be a problem. On opening the lid you are greeted by a long thinner tube that is made of plastic and transparent showing the full gloss colour. Placed at the top of the small tube is a rounded top that is slightly curved and slightly raised with an almost teardrop shape, inside are 6 little holes to let the gloss out.
*~* The Gloss *~*
My colour was a sort of deep pink with a slight shimmer but I have no idea of the exact shade. There were another couple of shades available but I liked this one the best. It is thick but not overly so, it has a sheen to it but not too much, it has a beautiful colour that gives a subtle hint of colour to your lips but again not overly so. There is a slight shimmer in my shade and I really like it, not only is it suitable for daytime use but also evening wear as well. I found it was not sticky at all either. I am not really a fan of glosses mainly because I forget to reapply it so not too much point but I found this to be very moisturising and not at all sticky. It made my lips feel smooth and colourful with a light sparkle and a nice shine and I remembered to reapply it after I could no longer feel it which was probably after around 2-3 hours which I feel is really good as usually after less than an hour I have nothing left on. I have used this almost daily for the last 2 weeks (a few times a day) and there is still a ton left so definately a long lasting product in my opinion.
*~* Appplication *~*
To apply this lipgloss all you have to do is twist the bottom (perhaps about a centimetre worth) of tube clockwise for the product to ooze out the little holes. I did find that more comes out the bottom 2 than any of the others, most likely as it is being pushed straight up but the applicator has a slant to it. Although plastic I found it gentle to apply and not rough as I had imagined. The gloss glided on well and with the twist option you can control how much is applied each time which again is a definate plus.
*~* Overall Opinion *~*
I would definately recommend this. I have had it in my bag ever since and next time I'm in will be picking up another couple, especially for £1 I cannot believe how good this is. I love it and would urge any of you who love a wide range of glosses and lipsticks available to give this one a go. 4 stars for me, it looses a star for a few little niggles such as the extra lipgloss coming out the bottom holes but definately nothing to put you off!
I managed to pick this lip gloss up a few days ago at my local Poundland store. I'd never heard of it before but Maybelline is definitely one of my favourite make-up brands so I thought I'd give it a try for £1.
The lip gloss comes in a silver tube about the same size as your average mascara tube. There is a clear strip in the tube about three quarters of the way up which lets you see the colour of the lip gloss. I'm not sure of the name of colour I purchased is it's a dark red with a deep pink tinge to it, it's really quite nice. Actually, it might just be the same shade as shown in the picture here on dooyoo. This was one of only two shades available in Poundland, the other being a brown colour, although I'm sure there is a much wider variety if brought from the likes of Boots or Superdrug.
The lid securely clicks into place preventing it from coming off and spilling all over the contents of your make-up bag which is a great advantage, no one likes a messy make-up bag! To apply the lip gloss you have to twist the bottom of the tube which allows the product to be pushed through six holes at the top shaped in a star pattern with another hole in the middle. I do think it takes a little practice working out how far to twist the bottom of the tube. If you allow too much to come through then it's awfully hard to apply to the lips and leaves you with a big red (or whatever shade you have) mess. Not applying enough means you don't really get any of the colour of the product. I found after I had messed about three or four times I found how much of the gloss I needed thus how far to turn the bottom.
The slanted triangle with curved edges shape of the application part of the tube makes it really easy to control where you are applying this lip gloss. I have quite a large point in the middle of my top lip which often makes things difficult when applying lipstick/gloss (I always end up with it on my skin) but, I'm pleased to say, I don't have this problem with this lip gloss!
I tend to find that most lip glosses, regardless of the colour they appear, just add shine to my lips rather than any colour. This one, however, does both! I get a lovely shade of red on my lips with that added shine, it looks really nice. I've even had to hide it from my Sister as she likes it so much I'm sure she'll try and steal it some point.
The gloss leaves your lips feeling smooth rather than sticky, I don't know about you but I hate sticky lip gloss! The product is perfect for every day wear as it's not too over the top. Saying that, I could easily see myself wearing this on a night out as well.
My only problem with this is, like with most lip glosses, it doesn't last for very long. You probably get a couple of hours of this before it needs reapplying so it's a good idea to have it on you at all times.
For a quid, I definitely cannot moan about this lip gloss. I think it retails at around £3-£4 in other high street stores and I could easily see myself paying that price for a tube once I have used up all of this one. It's a great colour, easy to apply and leaves my lips feeling smooth. The only downside it that it doesn't last very long!
I first found this in Superdrug it was on special offer and only cost £3.99 so I thought I would try it. I brought a shade that had a brownish tint to it.
It comes in a silver tube, with a clear strip where you can see your colour, this looks really nice and the lid has a indent in it where it goes on to the tube this is good as it helps the lid stay on so you won't get it all over your make up bag.
It twists up at the bottom it comes up through the applicator at the top which has little holes in it. It only lets a little bit up with each twist so you can easily control how much you need, this is great because I find with other products I have used that work in this way there has been a lot of waste. It is a hard plastic top which is angled I find that this works really well for applying it to your lips as it is just the right thickness for them and it glides across them smoothly.
There is a wide range of colours in this range so there will be something to suit everyone, from dark reds to light browns. All are very glossly and the product has small bits of glitter in which really shimmer when they catch the light. It feels nice when it is on your lips it isn't very sticky so you don't need to worry about your hair being stuck in it. It lasts for quite a while about an hour or two which I feel is quite a long time compared to other lip glosses I have tried.
It does also add colour to your lips as the description claims, it will depend on which one you choose as to how much some are very strong colours whilst the lighter colours give more of a tint that a colour.
I would recommend trying this product it looks good and feels nice to wear.
Whilst walking round my local Boots store trying to pass some time I came across the Maybelline WaterShine Elixir Liquid Lip Colour. Having already tried Maybelline's WaterShine Lipstick and being pleased by how soft it made my lips feel, I decided to have a look to see whether there were any colours in the Liquid Lip Colour that would suit me. I found two shades that I thought would suit me, Silver Rose, No. 546 and Vibrant Wine, No. 542. Seeing as there was a 3 for 2 offer on all Maybelline products I decided that I could justify buying them. The only problem was that there was nothing else I wanted. So I decided to save my money and keep them in mind for a later date and off I went. Later in the day I was in need of cheering up and so went into my local Superdrug store, as I didn't see the point in going to Boots twice in the same day. To my amazement there was an offer on the Watershine Elixir Lip Colours - £3.99 instead of £6.99! So I decided to purchase both and off I went, my spirits lifted in a way that only a new lip colour can do!
The Lip Colours come in chrome silver tubes with a clear band about two thirds of the way up through which you can see the colour you are purchasing. On the main tube, just underneath this clear section is the Maybelline New York logo and on the bottom a dispenser that clicks as you turn it, releasing the Lip Colour. Over this is placed a white sticker with a barcode that can be peeled back to reveal a list of ingredients that are too tiny to see, let alone read! On the base of the dispenser is the description and number of the colour in question. Above the clear section is a chrome silver lid that, once removed, reveals a clear applicator with the Lip Colour inside. The tip of the applicator is slanted to give more definition when applying the Lip Colour. The top of the applicator contains five holes, which the liquid comes out of when you twist the dispenser, supposed to give precise application through the release of concentrated droplets of colour and shine.
The Lip Colours are not the easiest to use and with the darker colours a mirror is essential. You apply by twisting the dispenser until the Lip Colour comes out and then steadily sweeping the liquid across your lips. The colour comes out a bit uneven but this is easy to rectified by smoothing over once the colour has been applied. I think that this is because the holes in the applicator separate the colour out making even application more difficult than any other I have used before. However this does not put me off the product as the positives out way the negatives.
The Lip Colour comes in 16 different shades and can be found in Boots, Superdrug, larger supermarkets and from the Maybelline website (www.maybelline.co.uk). I chose two colours, one quite subtle (No. 546) and one bolder colour (No. 542) both of which are pearlescent. If you look on the website, don't be fooled by the colours shown, my Vibrant Wine Lip Colour is not purple as depicted on the website but more of a pinky plum colour. I love these two Lip Colours. The liquid is a good consistency, feeling soft and keeping my lips in good condition. The Lip Colours give a nice, glossy finish without being sticky. The only problem is that the colour does fade quite quickly. I would say that re-application is needed about once every half hour to keep the colour as rich as when it was first applied.
Overall, I think this Lip Colour is great as it is the only gloss that I have found that isn't sticky, which might be the reason that the colour begins to fade. There is also a large range of colours to choose from and in the Superdrug I bought them from they were arranged on the stand into 'Pink', 'Plum', 'Brown', and 'Coral/Nude' which made choosing the right colours even easier, although I don't think the Boots I had been in earlier that day did.
