I wear make up every day but I am not really sure when I purchased this Maybelline eyeliner-matic product to be honest but I think I probably picked it up thinking it would do as an eyebrow pencil and so this is my review of it!
I probably bought my eyeliner from Boot's but it is available from most places that sell Maybelline products for around four pounds which I think is slightly more expensive than my usual Rimmel eyeliner. The eyeliner-matic comes in three colours I believe these being black, brown and an emerald green colour too. The one that I purchased was the brown one because my main intention was to use it as an eyebrow pencil more than eyeliner.
The product comes in a thin pencil shaped packaging which is pretty much the norm for this type of product. My pencil is brown in colour making is easy to pick the right colour off the shelf and it has the Maybelline name on the pencil as well as the product name and other various bits of information in a silver font which stands out on the packaging but doesn't look garish or anything.
This eyeliner pencil isn't one that you sharpen as it becomes blunt and as such the product is cased in a plastic packaging which I prefer as I find them easy to hold when I am applying them but I also prefer not to have to sharpen an eyeliner as I just think it makes a mess and is too much effort! With this eyeliner you just need to pull off the lid and then twist the bottom of the pencil to expose the pencil and I like how you can control just how much you expose. My only slight issue with the packaging is it is obviously difficult to know how much you have left in the product but I find that as you are coming to the end and you cannot twist the pencil any further you usually have a few more applications before you run out and so have time to replace it should you want to.
I have used this eyeliner as an eyeliner from time to time and I find that the tubing holding the pencil is really easy to hold and so makes me feel confident as I apply it. As the pencil comes out at a uniform size I find it gives me an accurate consistent line and it feels quite creamy as it goes on and so doesn't drag at my delicate eye lids. It lasts reasonably well on my eyes as an eyeliner and I do sometimes like to use it when I am having a bit more of a down day with my make up but for the most part I do prefer a black eyeliner.
As I mentioned at the start of this review I probably picked this eyeliner up thinking that it would be a good product to use for my eyebrows and this is the main use I have for it. A few months ago I didn't really bother doing much with my eyebrows in terms of make up but I have become aware of the fact that they really can make a massive difference to your made up face when you do give them a bit more attention. I have my eyebrows waxed regularly in to shape and keep on top of them by plucking stray hairs but now I also use this eyeliner just to block colour my eyebrows a little. I am not talking harsh drawn on eyebrows here but I do like to just go through my eyebrows a little with this pencil and just darken them slightly and give them definition. This eyeliner pencil is actually great for this as it matches my eyebrows well and doesn't stand out or look silly when I apply it. It is easy to use the pencil just to give a light colour and I will continue to use it for this purpose as it lasts all day for me.
The packaging tells me that you can use this product for twenty four months after purchase which is great I think because it does last well with infrequent use. I would imagine it would last me around four to six months if I used it daily though. I can recommend this eyeliner as it lasts well on the eyes and the eyebrows and so is quite a multi function product to have in your make up bag. For £4 you are getting a good quality product which will last well.
Thank you for reading my review!
I received this Maybelline Eyeliner-matic for Christmas in Intense Black, but it is also available in other shades including brown and blue. I use a lot of Maybelline make-up products already but had never used this eyeliner before. After trying out many different eyeliners from different brands I have noticed that I tend to like the ones that you twist up, rather than sharpen, as the liner itself is more creamy and so draws easily and neatly along the eye line. This eyeliner-matic is one of those that you don't need to sharpen, like the name suggests.
When applying this it is so easy to use. It only takes one or two coats to get the desired dark black line which I go for. A lot of other liners I have used in the past I have had to use a few coats to get the line as a dark as I like it, which can take some time and also depending on the type of eyeliner that it is, it uses it up very quickly. It is also very soft on the skin and doesn't irritate me at all because the eyeliner is soft and has a creamy texture to it.
It is also a bonus that I don't have to keep sharpening this as sometimes I am in a rush on a morning that I wouldn't have time to, and end up rummaging through my make-up bag for a one that isn't blunt! This can easily be twisted up in a second.
The only downside to this eyeliner is how easily it becomes smudged. At first I put it down to me rubbing my eyes accidentally and smudging it then, but after a few times of wearing this I noticed that it would become easily smudged even if I didn't touch my eyes! Yes the eyeliner lasts all day and you don't need a top-up during the day, but by the end it will appear smudged under your eyes. However, I don't let this stop me from using it and on the days I am wearing this eyeliner I will just keep checking it everytime I go to the toilets.
This eyeliner is available from Boots and Superdrug, as well as supermarkets that sell Maybelline products. It is priced at £4.09 which I think is very reasonable for an eyeliner, and I still have a lot left and I have been using mine since Christmas.
Having read the other reviews on this eyeliner, I was surprised to see that some of the views on this eyeliner were rather negative.
I have been using this eyeliner for a few months now but I have to say that I think it was spirited into my make-up bag by some mysterious force as I have NO recollection of buying it!
It is available in 3 colours - Intense Black, Brown, and Emerald Green. Mine is the Intense Black, and it is a thin black pencil with silver writing down the side of it.
The main thing about this eyeliner is that it has a retractable crayon so there's no need for a sharpener. All you need to do is wind the top of it to reveal the crayon and away you go. It means you don't hurt your eye with jaggy bits of wood that can stick out from regular wooden eyeliner pencils.
The crayon itself is soft, and stays that way when you retract it, so there's no need to sit and roll it between your fingers to soften it like you do with some eyeliners. It is so soft that it goes on in one smooth fluid line on your eyelids.
The crayon is quite thin so you do get a very precise and relatively narrow layer of eyeliner on your lids. This is good if you like that look, but I find that a precise line looks quite harsh on me - I much prefer a smudgy look, like kohl pencils can give you. Luckily the crayon is soft so it's not too hard to smudge it.
As you can see I have said a few times now that the crayon is soft - which also sadly means the eyeliner 'bleeds' throughout the day and I do find that when I wear it to work, by the time lunchtime comes, I am wearing a lot less eyeliner. It fades throughout the day; however I would say that it doesn't fade to the extent that you need to completely reapply it. Another quick sweep across your lids normally does the trick, if one is needed at all.
The eyeliner is removed easily with cleanser although that maybe shows its lack of durability.
I like this eyeliner though. It is good for daily wear - if you're anything like me you don't worry too much about your make-up in work, so the fact that it 'bleeds' doesn't bother me too much. For a night out I would much rather wear Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil, as it lasts a lot longer.
This retails at around £3.25 - it's pretty cheap and definitely worth a try.
One of my favourite products from the Maybelline range is the Liner-matic. This is a retractable precision eye-liner and is available in three colours, Black, Brown and Emerald which is a dark green colour. I have been wearing eyeliner for many years now and this is definitely one of the best I have used.
The eyeliner crayon is encased in a slim black plastic tube with a pull-off lid and the words "eyeliner-matic" running along the pencil. At the botton is a silver plastic band. Removing this silver piece reveals a small sharpener designed for sharpening the crayon. I haven't really used the sharpener as there is very little need to, the crayon seems to stay a decent shape and it's pretty impossible to get it blunt as it is quite thin. What I really like about this is that if too much product is exposed, it is easy to retract, some similar products don't seem to retract very well at all and I end up having to push the product back into the tube.
When the lid is removed, the bottom half of the tube can be twisted whilst holding onto the bit that is covered by the lid. I found this eyeliner very easy to apply. The product glides on smoothly and doesn't drag the skin. Because the crayon inside is quite thin, it makes it easy to get a very thin line very close to the lash line. Of course, a thicker line can be applied depending on the kind of look you are trying to achieve. I would advise not twisting out too much product when applying this as this can cause the crayon to snap. I always use a black eyeliner and this one offers a very dark, intense look. If you find that black eyeliner a little too harsh, I would recommend trying the Brown version. Another great thing about this is that you don't need to keep sharpening with a pencil sharpener like you do with pencil eyeliners which results in a lot of product being wasted.
---Price and Availablity---
The Maybelline range is widely available from supermarkets, chemists and high street stores and can be purchased for £3.99 but prices may vary depending on the retailer.
I was very happy with this product. It is easy to achieve the desired look and very nice to apply. The eyeliner has very good staying power and I found that there was very little smudging or smearing and I didn't need to reapply very often. The product is easily removed with an eye-makeup remover of warm soapy water.

Ive been trying to write this review for so long that I don't think this product is even sold in actual shops anymore! Which just goes to show how long ago I actually bought it - well it is no longer listed on the Maybelline website anyway! Usually with eyeliners I stick with what I know as Ive tried loads in the past and found that I am allergic to quite a few of them - and not just cheap ones either! But I did really like the idea behind this one and that is the only reason I bought it and looking back I should have stuck with my old faithful Rimmel brand eyeliner because even though this one is slightly cheaper it is also much worse!
The only reason I was attracted to this eyeliner is that it promised I would never have to sharpen it as it is a retractable pencil so you slide some up when you want to use it and then back down again when your finished - which also minimises the risk of the pencil snapping or coming into contact with germs. Now I'm sure you will agree that is a great idea in theory but like so many great ideas this one failed to work in reality and I was left disappointed.
Price: Around £4 - £5
Stockists: I haven't seen this sold in actual shops for ages so if you do want to buy I would say Amazon is the best bet. I did however purchase mine from Boots.
Shades: Black, Brown, Electric Blue & Emerald Green. I personally own the Black shade as I just wanted a liner for everyday wear.
From the outside this looks like a bog standard liner pencil that is nice but nothing majorly special. The silver writing which is the best bit about the packaging rubbed off within a few weeks of me owning it so that's not very long lasting at all - sadly neither is anything else about the product. The small gold part at the bottom is the bit you twist to get the pencil part to come out the top and then retract back in again this is fairly easy to do and a really good idea - if it had actually worked it also has a lid on the top to prevent the liner from breaking, drying out or picking up germs. They tried to be clever and make a really great design but it just did not work. So the whole point of this packaging is to stop the liner from breaking as easily. Mine broke within a week of me owning it: firstly when I twisted the bottom a part fell out and secondly when I dropped the liner (with the lid on and the liner retracted) on carpet the pencil inside broke to shards rendering it pretty much unusable.
I'm going to try and be nice for a second now because I have something good to say - this liner is really easy to apply. Rather than having a sharp pointy end as you would get from a recently sharpened eye liner this one is more blunt and therefore softer to apply and does go on really smoothly and creates a bold line of colour with just one sweep across your eye line. The colour also while it lasts is very nice. One line across gives a really bold, dark look which is dark enough to be really dramatic for a night look but can also be used during the day when most peoples make-up isn't as severe. So actually this liner does have some good thing about it but sadly the con's far outweigh the pros.
This doesn't have staying power at all. This liner actually claims to me non smudge and I know sometimes a bit of smudge is good if you wear smokey eye shadow like I do but this took smudging to a whole new level. It lasted about 2 hours on my eyes before it went all over the place and bled quite a bit underneath my eyes which is not a good look - there is a point when smudge does not look great! So apart from easy application I haven't got anything else nice to say and if this is still sold in stores I don't recommend you waste your money because it is not good at all - possibly the worst eyeliner Ive ever used. Don't waste your hard earned pennies!

Finally I have had enough of this product, I refuse to use it anymore!
Initially i used it because i found pencils a bit awkward, the tip on this product is soft, malleable and pain free. You don't have to sharpen - simply turn the end of the pencil and more is revealed - do be aware though if you reach the end - it will just push the end of the eyeliner out... onto your carpet! There is no indicator to show how much you have left, its guesswork at how much you have used it.
The main issue I have with this product is it last for about 2 hours, then you have to re-apply, which is annoying enough but if you wear it on your lower eyelid expect a lovely attractive smudge about half an inch down your face! You don't even have to touch it, it seems to auto-migrate!
It's cheap at about £3 a pop but that is no excuse, this is a poor product from Maybelline, I really don't recommend unless you only wear on your top lid and you have time to re-apply every few hours. Spend a couple pounds more and get a more reliable eyeliner.
I have been trying out different eyeliner's for years and believe me, this one comes close to poor. Maybelline is one of my favourite brands but what I tend to find with them is it is a little too expensive for what I would be prepared to pay. I often treat myself to a nice eyeliner when I can afford it because retractable liners are really good. I like my eyes to stand out but not to be messy, to be neat!
This is a retractable eyeliner crayon by Maybelline which is actually very useful because you don't have to sharpen it and you can actually use all of it! This eyeliner comes in brown, black, emerald green and electric blue which i not a large selection but this is a specialist pencil. This has been designed to create a smudge free look on your eyes, but my eyes did smudge a little which was not too good! This also does not last very long either, I had only got into the car and down the road by the time this has gone messy!
This comes as a slim sort of crayon which is handy for my make up bag as it will definitely fit in. This looks posh with a gold tip and gold writing which actually wore off which made it look really cheap.
The only think I really liked about this product was the fact that the colours were really bold and they did stand out although they did not last on your eyes. I actually bought this from Boots for about £4.00 which is really too expensive for what it is.
I will only buy this again if I really have to! This was a poor effort made by Maybelline.
Too expensive for what it is.
I always think that bright eyeliners look really cute when other people wear them, and that was the inspiration behind my purchase of Maybelline Eyeliner-Matic in Emerald Green. The eyeliner also comes in Black and Brown, but it was the Emerald Green that caught my eye, so to speak!
The Maybelline website describes this eyeliner as 'an easy-to-apply retractable eyeliner crayon with a precise tip.' It also calls it a 'neat innovation' and a 'staple part of your make-up bag'!
The liner is shaped like a slim pencil. It has a pull off lid, and a twist-up base, which you turn to push the crayon liner upwards. At first the packaging seems pretty with a shiny silver base and silver writing along the side, but after using this just a few times all the writing wore off, which annoyed me a bit.
I also found that although the crayon liner is easy to operate in principle, it actually turned out to be very irritating, as after a very small, light drop onto carpet the crayon broke in half, and now when I twist it up the top part keeps falling off!
The eyeliner is quite easy to apply and goes on smoothly. It is a lovely vibrant green colour, it really does look like emerald! It is quite thick but if you angle it right you can get a thinner line if you want. I also find it works OK as an eyeshadow as you can colour in your whole eyelid with it if you like.
However the liner does not last very long. After just a short amount of time, less than a couple of hours, I usually find it has smudged and bled about an inch under my eye! It then looks ridiculous of course. For me there is no point in using an eyeliner that won't stay put and so I won't be buying this again.
You can expect to pay between £2 and £4 for this, depending where you buy it. The best deal will probably be on the internet, and in stores it is likely to cost you over £3.
