Maybelline Falsies Mascara
Advantages: Darker, thicker and longer eyelashes without the glue
Disadvantages: Not the same results as fake eyelashes
I always think that mascara is the perfect tool for finishing off any made up eye look and therefore I do tend to go through it quite quickly. Being that I like to shop around for makeup to find the best deals and newest products, when I saw a tube of this Maybelline Falsies mascara in my local Boots recently for just over a fiver, I was keen to give it a try. I might add at this point, that I do have quite long eyelashes, however they are a touch fine in places and therefore anything that promises to make my eyelashes look 'false' and with that I mean thick and long, is definitely worth a try in my book.
Maybelline say that this mascara provides 'dramatic false lash fab volume', these are their words not mine. Packaging wise this mascara is presented in a bright purple tube which has a fat middle that tapers out toward either end. The tube is presented (in my case) with shiny silver text and a pair of silver wings which adorn either side of the lid. On the front of the tube we are told that this mascara is 'the Falsies volum' express' whilst the back gives a pair of images which show how this mascara should be applied. Although I have not used this information when I apply my mascara it is still a handy little feature in my opinion.
Upon screwing off the lid of the mascara tube I am left with a black stick which runs down to a bristled and brush which is shaped in a slight arc with which to apply the mascara. Look wise this appears no different to any other mascara however the brush is well bristled and this ensures that the mascara goes on the eyelashes in an even coating. The colour of this mascara is a deep black and this is my preference as I find that it gives my lashes a deep infusion of colour which clearly frames my eyes.
This mascara does come in two options those being waterproof and non waterproof. I have bought the non waterproof option given that I do not like removing waterproof mascara as it can irritate my eye area.
Looking at the instructions on the back of my mascara, Maybelline recommend that the arced side of the brush is applied first with the 'spoon' side against the lashes. They then advise that the straighter side of the brush is used to flare the eyelashes outwards. This is all a little technical for me and I prefer just to use the curved side of the brush to liberally coat my lashes brushing in an outwards direction to ensure that my long lashes are flicked out. Leaving my mascara to dry for a matter of minutes I then proceed to apply another coating on top of the first to ensure that my eyelashes are blacker than black. In my opinion, mascara should be applied last after everything else including eyeliner and eye shadow and therefore this is what I do.
~Price and Availability~
I have seen this mascara in a number of stores including Boots, Superdrug and my local Tesco supermarket and you should expect to pay around £7.99 for it unless it is part of a deal. This is not a bad price to pay in my opinion especially given the length of time that a tube lasts which in my case has stretched for a good month with daily usage.
First things first, I love the colour of this mascara. The dark black really emulates that of fake eyelashes and makes my eyelashes stand out against my green eyes. I find that this mascara makes my eyelashes appear much longer than they really are and rather than clump the individual strands together it really helps to define each lash. In addition, this mascara does add some much needed volume to my eyelashes. Although admittedly my eyelashes do not appear false they definitely look more defined than they do without mascara. In addition, I love the touch of weight that they add to my eyelashes which makes fluttering them all the more appealing. After a days wear, this mascara washes easily off my eyelashes with my usual face wash and does not leave any residue around my eye area.
Although not fake, my eyelashes do look thicker and longer with this mascara and therefore it scores a good four stars from me.
I hope this review has been of some help and thanks for reading! x
