Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Doesn't give a flawless finish
You know what its like when your in a hurry? You need something like yesterday?
Well that was me when I bought this pressed powder in Boots. I was somewhat 'on the hop' so I made a hurried decision and it had to be budget but credible (I am a brand snob I'm afraid). I trust Maybelline, I've used a few of their of products so I looked at the price tag first ... £4.99 and then picked my colour, Natural Beige (021) and off I went safe in the knowledge it would be ok !!
Packaging....
Round in shape weighing 16g, white base and clear plastic lid that slides on , branded on the front and its recyclable. On the base it tells me that its long lasting, Matt finish and the ingredients. Nothing special about it but its ok.
On rooting around the maybelline website for some information cos I've emailed them making a complaint I'll come on that in a bit I've found out a bit more information on the product.
Pure Powder is quick and easy to use
Glides effortlessly onto the skin to give a perfect matte complexion.
Pure power is dermatologically tested and doesn't clog pores
Available in 4 shades to suit all skin tones
I find it strange that it doesn't tell me on the product that its dermatologically tested I mean a lot of us think that's quite important after all lol
The powder....
It is of course a dry powder and to the touch is very soft and silky and seems to be fragrance free.
My Experience....
I always apply it over moisturiser and foundation with a large brush. I swish my brush about give it a slight tap and away I go.
Yes it goes on well, no complaints on that part. My only miff was that the colour is slightly a bit too dark on my skin and I need the lightest shade of translucent but hey that's not a fault of the product that's down to me lol
When I put it on It doesn't clog and more importantly it doesn't feel heavy. I wouldn't say it covers up my spots that well but then most of the products in this price range don't so I don't expect that.
The biggest problem is it doesn't last!
I'm not a greasy monkey but for some reason it just melts into my skin and when it is on and melting away it really shows up my pores! So I have to keep reapplying. I have a slightly greasy nose, not the full t zone area just my nose and with this product I actually carry a mirror and a brush and instead of keep going to the loo I'll sit and waft it over me face in public otherwise I'd be up and down like a yo yo! I just wish it had a mirror. I will say that even though I have to keep reapplying it, it still doesn't clog or get heavy.
After a night out I go to take it off with my usual routine and there's not much on my cotton wool it seems to have vanished! I always thinks have my pores eaten it!
Overall its ok for the price. If you have open pores it doesn't help cover them. If you have blackheads it seems to fill them a bit, white heads look more prominent and if you got any shiny bits be prepared to make this work for you.
I think if you have a great complexion this would be perfect for you! If you have more mature skin this probably would work for you as it wont get stuck in wrinkles and crows feet and all that as its so smooth and silky and blends in well. I'm not keen at all it isn't right for me. The only positive thing I can say is it hasn't upset my skin at all but I wouldn't buy it again.
Oh yes and my complaint to Maybelline lol....
Already not happy with the overall results I was incensed to take my compact out with me and the plastic lid broke in half! Meant my product got a bit chipped in my new handbag. I accept it could of been me to blame but saying that the lid of this product comes off so easy. It doesn't screw you just press it on. Its not safe and has ruined my new handbag! The packaging really isn't good and looks cheap and nasty and if I had of been happy with the product and they charged say £5.49 for a more secure lid i would of been elated. As it stands I'm not buying it again but i wanted a reason to whinge at them lol
Colours available....
Translucent
Natural Beige
Amber Beige
Natural Bronze
To be found at Boots, Superdrug and large supermarkets etc around £4.99
My only advice is this...
Just cos its not good on me we're not all the same. If you fancy the product though do test it out first in the shop just to be sure!
Summary: There is better out there for a similar price!
