Maybelline Fit Me! Foundation
Advantages: Reasonably priced
I had recently gone to Boots and had a colour match carried out after which I bought a No 7 foundation. It is a great foundation however I have found that recently my normally clear skin has had a few blemishes of late and also some redness which I think is due to the cold weather. The foundation I had purchased in Boots was only sheer to light coverage so it wasn't enough to hide the redness.
I received a sample of this foundation from Maybelline by liking their Facebook page. I was impressed so I decided to go out and buy a bottle. It normally costs around £8 but I got it on promotion in Tesco for £5, I also bought the powder.
The foundation comes in a variety of shades. To choose your perfect shade you start by selecting your skin shade choosing from 100's which are fair, 200's which are medium and 300's which are dark. You then choose what undertone your skin has between yellow and pink. The shade finder will then recommend the shades which should suit you. I have fair skin and I tried a couple of shades in the shop and decided on 125 which is described as nude beige.
The foundation comes in a simple glass bottle with the shade number printed on the bottom. It has a black plastic lid which has the word FIT across it. The foundation is described by Maybelline as being gel based and containing no oil, no waxes and no fillers. The foundation also contains SPF 18 which is important for me as I like to protect my skin. The foundation states that it won't block pores but will offer even coverage while still allowing your skin to look natural and breathe. For best results you are recommended to apply with your fingers.
To use the foundation you simply dispense using the pump action nozzle and apply. I prefer to use a foundation brush as I find it gives better coverage than my fingers. The foundation when it comes out of the bottle is very gel like and has a different texture to other foundations I have tried. The colour is exactly as it looks in the bottle. As the foundation has a gel formula is glides effortlessly onto the skin. I have also found that I need to use a lot less than I would have used with other brands I have tried. One thing I did notice is the foundation has a lovely cooling effect on the skin. I also noticed that the texture felt slightly greasy which may not make it ideal for oily skin.
The foundation blends well and you can add more where you need it and it still blends in seemlessly. There is also no tell tale 'tide mark'. I would describe the foundation as medium coverage for me it covered my blemishes and also the red patches around my cheeks and nose without the need for any concealer. If you do need to use a concealer though the range has a matching concealer and powder to compliment the foundation. My skin also felt moisturised after use and I have dry skin with a slightly oily T Zone. The first time I used the foundation I didn't use the matching powder and I found that it lasted most of the day but it was a little 'dewy' looking on my nose. I then went out and purchased the powder to compliment the shade I had chosen, after applying my foundation I applied a layer of powder and this gave amazing staying power. I work long shifts and even after applying at 6am it is still in place at 6pm. For me a good test was looking in the mirror in the loo's in work as they have horrible white LED bulbs which if your wearing a bad foundation make you look cakey and made up, I found that this foundation looked natural without looking caked on, it wasn't too heavy or thick and didn't make me look like I was heavily made up which is something I hate.
I would definately buy this product again, it is reasonably priced and lasts for ages, I have had this about 3 months and I used it 4-5 times a week, I have only used a 1/4 of the bottle. I also find that for me it has amazing staying power. I recommended this to my friend who has extremelly greasy skin and she found it slid off after a few hours but since she has started using the powder too she finds the foundation lasts a lot longer and she doesn't get the shiny look.
I love this foundation and won't be going back to the more expensive Benefit and Mac products I have bought in the past.
5 out of 5 from me.
Summary: A light and natural look with excellent coverage!
