Maybelline Great Lashes Mascara - currently £4.99 at Boots with three for two on all Maybelline products
This Maybelline is in the distinctive Pink, and lime packaging the first attracted me to the brand. It is applied with a brush type applicator rather than a rubber comb applicator. The brush itself is rather small, and the aperture at the top of the bottle is rather larger then it is, meaning that there is often a rather too generous amount of mascara on the brush. This is easily solvable, as you can brush some off, however this can cause the neck of the bottle to get a bit 'gacky'.
The brush itself is great for getting a natural looking application, and is small enough to be really effective on your lower lashes. But the mascara itself can sometimes be a bit flaky. It'd really not one to wear to the cinema, especially for a weepy movie, and even just rubbing your eyes, can set of a mascara avalanche.
The mascara also seems to have a strange smell to it. It's not something that I've noticed with any other mascaras but this does seem to stand out.
The brush applicator is really great, but the mascara itself it just too flawed for me to recommend it. It starts out OK, but it does very quickly head downwards.
WHAT IS IT?
A mascara from Maybelline that promises to thicken my eyelashes. It is a budget mascara and costs less than £5, Great Lash mascara is available in black or brown-black.
HOW IT LOOKS
I do not like the tube at all, it is pink and green and looks like a mascara you would buy for a young girl. The brush is very short and thin, the bristles are tightly spaced but clog up very quickly if you do not use the mascara regularly. If you wipe the brush on the inside of the tube the mascara can be seen on the outside and that makes the pink portion look stained and untidy.
This is a weak mascara so requires more coats than average just to attain a made up look. For light definition I use two coats but if I want very dark lashes I would need to apply at least four coats and that isn't practical so I use something else for evening wear. The brush often leaves clumps of mascara on my eyelashes, these are removed easily with an eyelash comb but means it takes even longer to apply my mascara.
WHAT I THINK
I do not like this mascara because application takes me such a long time and the effects aren't as good as I can achieve when using other mascara. It's very cheap and the mascara rubs off my eyelashes very quickly, I always have smudges of mascara under my eyes after a few hours and can see the mascara rubbing off on my finger when I touch my lashes even lightly hours after application.
It doesn't add any length to my eyelashes but does make them look thicker. I dislike the way it clumps along my lash line and the way the mascara makes my eyelashes droop downwards because it can make my eyes look tired. It also makes my eyes sore sometimes but this isn't all the time.
2 Dooyoo Stars.
I have used many different mascara products from many different brands since I started using mascara, and never managed to find one that I really liked. I often found that 'waterproof' was rarely that, that most of the products I used would be clumpy and look really un-natural and that you often end up with hard, crunchy eyelashes that feel, quite frankly, disgusting. That's all until I discovered this little miracle.
Great lashes is easy to spot in any make up department of a store due to its unusual bright coloured packaging. It is a pink tube with a green lid, which I absolutely love because not only is it quite girly, but I can find and buy it in seconds!
The brush is of the newer, plastic kind. This has rapidly become my favourite kind of brush because it is the best for separating your lashes as it applies the product for a completely clump free, natural looking lash! It also means that the brush can get even the tiniest, thinnest of lashes to make them look thicker, fuller and longer.
The product is available in both waterproof and non-waterproof, but I find that this really is the only difference between the two. Unlike other brands I have used where their waterproof version of a mascara is often like using a completely different product! Great Lash mascara's waterproof version is most definitely good at staying on the lashes only, and not dripping all over your cheeks when it gets wet. This is the best waterproof mascara I have used, as it didn't even come off after my eyes were watering and being rubbed all day due to hayfever! Excellent!
After applying I feel that my lashes still look natural, but are much fuller and thicker, which is what every girl dreams of when buying a mascara product. It is a product which is easy to layer if you feel that one coat of it is not enough, as I often build on mine by wearing two or three coats if I'm going out for the evening (although you really don't need to with this!).
This mascara is by far the best product I have used, another excellent creation to go with my rapidly growing Maybelline collection! I would definitely recommend it to any girls out there looking for the perfect mascara.
Over the years i have tried numerous mascaras but I always found the same problems. Mascara starts to clump together, dries really hard on your eyelashes, and when you clean it off half your eyelashes come off with the mascara! Well after using maybelline great lashes, i haven't come across any of these problems. A small amount of this mascara increases the length of my lashes instantly but doesn't cause them to clump togeher, and also feels delicate on my lashes. It lasts all day and even after a cry, it doesn't run down my face and give me the alice cooper look!
For day where you add a small amount which looks minimal but still makes your lashes stand out, if you're going on a night out, you can add more and your lashes look really long whilst also emphasising your eyes!
One of the best things about this mascara is that it isn't the most expensive one on the market but does the same as the more pricey products.
