Maybelline Great Wear Lip Colour
Advantages: Huge selection of colours, stays on longer than alot of lipsticks
Disadvantages: Very drying on the lips indeed
Lipsticks are a bit of an obsession of mine if I'm truthful. I love them and I own over 150 now and still going strong! I own far too many for one pair of lips but it's like this... I see them and I'm like a magpie and buy them for the sake of it. I have them scattered all over the place! I don't have a favourite brand or colour and if I'm going anywhere I just grab one because I only have ones I like anyway! It's like lucky dip!
Maybelline is not really a brand I know much about to be honest. It's not one of my favoured brands but I saw a load of these in a range of colours, 2 for a pound so I bought 10 of them lol Typically me I'm afraid but I cant walk past a bargain!
Long thin black lipstick like a plastic pencil which you twist the bottom half of the lipstick to reveal the colour and twist back up when finished using it. Gold writing on it telling me who it is by and that's it on the information front. Nice looking lipstick. On the bottom I have a colour coded label on telling me my colour (saucy) a plum colour and that it's number 33 in the range). The colour is like a stick of colour and it is slanted when you first use it.
Well it's a lipstick so you apply it as such. As you apply you can feel it's thickness but not in a hard way. It comes off the colour block really easy, fuss freeand even.. It is moist and applies easily as I've said but you do need your lips in really good condition because as it's quite thick in consistency if you have any dry skin the colour would clump up and stick to flaky bits and highlight them to the world. Because it's quite dry when applying though it does go on smooth as silk you can apply it further into your mouth than most lipsticks and it stays there which means you do use a bit more colour and it does make the lips appear fuller and more pouty.
Once on the lips it kind of drys on but still doesn't feel dry though this isn't that shiny it's more of a lip stain. It doesn't smell and doesn't taste and it actually looks really expensive on the lips.
The big question is does it stay put? Well if you apply and go you can expect transfer but not a gooey one and it's fairly minimal compared to a lot of leading brands. If you apply, blot, apply, blot then the transfer is so minimal it's not worth mentioning really. It does stain the lips really well and doesn't crumble or bleed and it stays on and looking good for about 4-5 hours depending on what you do of course! The colour simply fades rather than you just lose the lot and it fades nice rather than patchy and unsightly. If you do want to remove it a tissue on it's own isn't enough. Yes it does remove most of it but you get a bit of lip staining so you need to use a bit of make up remover and I find when I've took it off my lips I do need a bit of moisture put back into them so I use a bit of lip butter.
Do I Like It?....
It is a little sticky on the lips and does feel a tad drying after a while but I have to look at whether the colours stays put and in my view it does that really well. A way to help with the drying feeling is to apply a little lip gloss or balm over the top and in doing this you don't lose the colour or get messy. It's a hard working lipstick but if you suffer with drying lips I wouldn't advise this and me, I wouldn't use it everyday as I do feel it would damage the overall condition of my lips but it's ok for big nights out. It doesn't go crusty or grimy after a while and stays colouring in the lips. This is not a gloss it's simply quite a dry lip colour so I advise people to test this before investing in it unless like me you can get it at 50p per tube! lol
Summary: Great on colour stay but not without it's faults.
