Advantages: SPF 18. Price. Blends well and looks natural.
Disadvantages: Shades only suitable for caucasian skin
I love this foundation!
In my younger days, I never used to bother wearing foundation at all, as I always found it too claggy on my skin, and let's face it, foundation on a young girl is gilding the lily somewhat.
In more recent times, I am no longer that fresh spring chicken so I have started needing foundation, for two reasons:
1. To generally disguise imperfections and look more alive (for 'alive' read 'younger')
2. A few years back, I started to suffer with mild roseacea and I discovered that I needed to wear something that blocked the UV light from my facial skin to keep this condition under control.
I've tried various brands but I keep coming back to the Maybelline Instant Rewind, as I find it works on both the above points.
It's available in about 5 shades, which is about average. However, I have it in 2 shades - one for pale and interesting days, and one for when I have been bothered to use my fake tan :)
This also means I can custom blend my own shade too of course.
I find it equally good whether applied with clean fingertips or a cosmetics sponge. It doesn't just sit on the surface like some, it actually blends into the skin: As long as you have got approximately the right shade for you, the 'edges' are really easy to blend away, so you don't get that dreaded tidemark.
It claims to make you look younger by using light-reflecting particles in the formula, and yes, I can see this in my mirror - It is an instant pick-me-up, and dries to a nice satin finish - not too matt, not too shiny or sparkly either, perfect.
The ingredients include caffeine, which is supposed to perk up the skin tone: I do look forward to dabbing it around my eye-bags in the morning !
The best thing about it for me personally is that it has Sun Protection Factor 18, which is higher than most others. As I said above, I use this to control my mild roseacea and I can really tell the difference: On the odd day that I forget to apply it in the morning, I can feel the centre of my face reddening and blotching by lunchtime , honestly. So most days now, I make a point of applying it and it does the job.
I also accidentally tested the SPF 18 while on holiday in Lanzarote: Out all day in the bright, hot sunshine, my shoulders, neck and arms were all burnt red (oops) but my face, covered with Maybelline Instant Rewind, did not change colour at all - what a recommendation!
It only costs around £5 - £6.00, and is often included in the special offers, and for this price, it's my desert island essential.
Summary: Great for all skin types, including problem skin
