Advantages: Gives great coverage but a light formula at the same time
Disadvantages: Has it been discontinued?:(
A few years ago I started noticing that my skin had been left with a few red scars due to breakouts. Never having been a foundation user before I thought that I might need to start so that I could even out my skin tone a little.
At first it was a total minefield! I had no idea what brand was good and what shade would suit my skin, so my first attempt was a bit of a miss - it looked cakey and unnatural.
Having used other Maybelline products, it is a brand I trust so I checked out their foundations and eventually decided on Instant Rewind in Sand colour (030).
The product:
Firstly and importantly it is SPF 18 - great! I wear a moisturiser with an SPF 15 and I'm not sure if adding a layer of the foundation makes it an SPF 33 but, I like to think so!!
It claims to be an anti-ageing foundation for firming and radiance. Supposedly the inclusion of caffeine extract and silk fibres make your skin feel firmer and minimises the appearance of fine lines.
It is dermatologically tested therefore suitable for sensitive skin.
Finally it "makes the skin look radiant and luminous due to light diffusing micropearls".
So they are the promises, now onto my opinion:
I apply this product in a thin layer with my fingers and blend. I think the coverage it gives is excellent, managing to be both light and cover any redness very well.
It is available in a variety of shades, but the shade "Sand" is perfect for my skin and seems to adapt perfectly whether or not I am wearing fake tan - but clearly that's an individual thing so probably not that useful to you readers :)
I think that the claim to make your skin feel firmer and minimise lines is a little far fetched - cant say I have seen any evidence of that, but the radiance claim is fair to say. The formula does reflect the light and I do notice a bit more of a dewy glow compared to a matt formula for instance.
The lightness of the formula makes it perfect to dab under your eyes too, and the light reflecting particles are great for those dark circles.
I feel that this is value for money too - a 30ml tube costs around £5 from amazon and one tube lasts me at least 6 months. And given that it can double up as touche eclat too - double bargain!!
I can't find it on Boots or Superdrug's websites anymore and really hope that it's not being discontinued but knowing me and my magic knack for making any product I like discontinued, it probably is :(
Thanks for reading!

- 30/11/09 I'm afraid that adding a layer of the foundation won't make it an SPF 33. I think 18 is the maximum you can hope for. |
