“ Brand: Maybelline / Type: Mascara / Suitable for: Eye „
Let Maybelline 'do for your lashes what stilettos do for your legs!'. This is the rather adventurous claim, and I would say that while it is most definately a good mascara, I would honestly say it's not that much better than some other high street lengthening mascaras that I have tried.
I like the packaging, it is supposed to resemble the heel of a stiletto, and I imagine in a rather abstract way, it does. It certainly wouldn't ugly-up your make-up bag.
The brush is good too, it's another rubberised one (my favourites!). As I keep telling you, this means that it will sweep cleanly through all your lashes, leaving you completely clump free. I have found that this is still the case even when it is nearly at it's end. The brush also claims to grip each individual lash and coat it from every angle. I couldn't really say whether this is the case, but I certainly got a good coverage.
The formula itself is 'elastic', meaning it should stretch out with your lashes, elongating them. It also contains Pro-Vitamin B-5, which will condition and smooth your lashes. I did like this mascara, it was very easy to use, and did give great length. I would suggest though that it isn't the best choice for those not really after extreme length.
My best application tip, is to sweep the brush up underneath your lashes, as this will give you a better shape. I would also recommend that you don't let it dry between coats, as that is how the formula works best.
Contact lens safe, and Opthalmologically tested, you can pick this up for around £7.00. It is only available in Black or Brown.
I don't really wear a lot of make up on a day to day basis, but one thing that I do love is my mascaras. I have tried many in the past naively believing the claims of triple length, double volume and even one that said it would make your own lashes grow thicker (it didn't!!).
The reason for buying this Maybelline one was no different, I was seduced by a glamorous advert in a magazine promising me Ultimate length lashes and never ending happiness.
The packaging - The mascara comes in a rectangle shaped soild tube. It is black with a shiny red band at the bottom and silver writing. It looks very classy and wouldn't look out of place on a high end cosmetics counter.
The lid is also rectangular and unscrews at the top. The brush is attached firmly to the lid.
The brush - They say it is a unique 'Stretch and Set Brush'. that is supposed to smooth and stretch your lashes to give you added length. To me it just looked like a normal mascara brush. It is slightly tapered at the tip which is great when you apply it, so you don't catch your eye and end up with mascara running down your face just before your cab arrives to take you out (been there done that!!)
The Brush in the Dooyoo stock photo is red but my brush is black not that it matters greatly.
I found the square lid is a nice size and easy to hold whilst appling the mascara.
The mascara - The mascara is nice and thick, it seems to have some sort of elastic element to it. I expect this is what is supposed to coat the lashes and then the brush stretches it out.
I found it smooth to apply and only needed one coat to give a nice coverage. It had a lovely shiny patened finish to it.
The Mascara has added Pro-Vitamin B5 and is silk protein enriched and I could see this as my lashes looked really healthy and glossy.
The downside - I really could not see any extreme lengthening going on, in fact I couldn't see any lengthening at all. My ashes looked good but not longer as I was promised in the advert.
You can buy this mascara at most cosmetic stores and chemists. It is available in black or brown.
My mascara cost £7.99 from Boots, which considering it doesn't do what it says is a little bit too expensive.
I will finish the tube but won't buy it again.
These lash enhancing, length enhancing mascaras all claim that they will do amazing things to your eyes and your lashes will look 6 feet long and do we believe them, hmmmm I always wonder, but Maybelline Lash Stiletto works for me. My lashes really do look like longer and defined. It doesn't make them any thicker, but then does not claim that it will so I can't moan there.
The tube is in the shape of a stiletto heel which is quite a clever idea and looks quite cool. The wand is also tapered which helps when applying the mascara to the right eye (being right handed), where the thinner end meets the shorter lashes, but when it comes to the left eye it would be so much easier if I could use the other hand (I cant, I've tried and ended up with mascara all over my eye lid!).
Smell wise, nothing special, just the usual mascara kind of a fragrance, but once on my lashes look longer and defined. I swear by my eyelash Curlers so apply after I have curled and my eyes look great, more open, bigger and sexy! I paid about £8.00 for this mascara and think that wasn't a bad price.
I am a fan of Maybeline makeup however, I wasn't a fan of this mascara. I have very sensitive eyes and although this didn't harm them I wasn't very impressed with the finishing look.
The word Stiletto implies that it gives height and length to lashes however I just found it separated them.
I have used it on two occasions and even after applying numerous coats it did not give the full look I tend to go for, which did disappoint me because it gives more of a subtle natural look.
I am glad it wasn't expensive as just discarded it, so from that perspective if that's what you want its affordable. But for me I think I shall leave it in the bathroom cabinet along with my other misfits of makeup. So on the Whole affordable, light and subtle. Black or brown. But just not right for my look.
~*~ Maybelline Stiletto Mascara ~*~
I've been using Clinique Mascara for, well, for what seems like forever! When I find a really good product I tend to stick to it, as I have so many times bought new mascaras that claim to be amazing only to end up with a 'two lash effect' - lashes that are so clumped together that it looks like you have two thick chunky lashes on each eye. Not a good look. However, being a student, I'm pretty broke at the moment and have been on the lookout for a cheaper mascara that produces the same results, and was recommended this by my sister. Now, she also told me that 'Glam Eyes' was amazing, which did not agree with me at all - I'll save that for another review - but I decided to trust her one last time....
~*~ It claims.... ~*~
I'm sure most of you will have seen the advert for this mascara, it's been all over the TV lately - it claims to "Do for your lashes what stilettos do for your legs" - in other words make them appear longer and sleeker. The 'Grip & Extend' brush claims to be able to coat each lash individually from whichever angle you approach from, and the mascara contains an elastic formula which lengthens and stretches the lashes, making them appear longer and fuller.
~*~ The range ~*~
There are three colour options in this range - very black, soft black and brown. I always tend to go for the blackest of black mascaras, but have actually tried the brown as well. If you have a paler skintone and fair hair, experts reccomend brown mascara as they give a more natural look. The brown shade of this mascara is very dark brown, almost black, and the colour goes on well - I would definitely recommend it to those with a fairer complexion (like me!) However, I go against my own advice here and always buy black for myself, as I like a more dramatic look!
~*~ Price and availability ~*~
This mascara is sold in most places you find cosmetics, including Boots and Superdrug as well as a number of supermarkets. The average retail price is around £7-8, however it is currently on offer at Boots for just £5.82 which is a bargain!
~*~ The verdict ~*~
After getting used to Cliniques premium mascaras, I was not very hopeful that I would be impressed by a standard cosmetic range. I hadn't used Maybelline beauty products for years, and have never really been tempted by them either - I just didn't think they would measure up. However, I was very pleasantly surprised by this mascara! It strengthened, lengthened and slightly volumised by lashes on first coat, and went on to give a more dramatic effect the more coats I applied (note - do not wait for lashes to dry between coats as this will cause the mascara to clump). The brush is very effective in getting right into the corner lashes.
I have also been impressed by the quality of the brush - you know how with some mascaras, the brush gets squashed a little the more you use it and it loses effectiveness? This hasn't happened at all with this mascara, which I was very pleased with.
The mascara lasts all day (fair enough it can do with another coat by the end of the day but what mascara doesn't). One criticism I do have though is it tends to flake off a little bit throughout the day leaving you with a bit of panda eye, but this could just be me with my constant face-touching!
Ok, I must admit it hasn't quite topped Clinique's High Impact mascara, but it has come pretty close, and for less than half the price I will definitely be buying this one again!
I have been and probably always will be a hoarder, I hoard everything and hate throwing anything away and my own star sign (Cancerian) states that "The crab's large claws hang on to its possessions for dear life, just as the Cancerian collects things they keep them". So with that in mind it does pain me to throw things away, even if I buy things I don't intend to use, being an impulse shopper this happens a lot.
One of the things I cannot live without or leave the house without wearing is mascara, I feel almost naked with it. Having bright blue eyes, it is one of the features a lot of people notice about me first, they may not be my biggest feature (minds out of the gutter please) but with your eyes you can change the way you look dramatically. However when it comes to mascara, other than BeneFit Bad Gal Lash I have never really found a mascara which to me does exactly what the adverts are telling me it does, many of them have their clever marketed campaigns which make you want to make that purchase but seldom few for me have ever lived up to expectations... until now!
Maybelline is itself a huge make-up brand and when it comes to mascara they have a massive range to choose from whether it is curved brush mascaras, waterproof mascaras, Colossal Lash mascara you name it they have it and along with it is a catchy name. The latest mascara to come from Maybelline is aptly named "Lash StilettoTM Ultimate Length Washable Mascara" which comes in three different colours - Soft Black, Very Black and Brownish Black and it retails currently for around £7. The reason I bought this mascara was because I found the television advert so appealing and because I am a big fan of Maybelline as a brand, it is always kept quite simple in its design and the idea behind what it does is also a simple message. As for the claims well I thought it was very clever stating that this mascara is "The only mascara that does for lashes what stilettos do for legs" which essentially means makes them appear longer. It doesn't promise that it will do that, it is a simple statement.
For me when it comes to applying mascara I have learnt one or two simple tricks from a make-up artist friend of mine which I found very useful. I am by no means an expert and infact for someone who loves cosmetics so much my knowledge in this area is actually quite shameful; however the application of mascara I can just about manage. Firstly, before applying anything it is always good to make sure that you have removed all trace of previous applications of mascara and that you have done your eye make-up how you want it prior to applying your mascara, that ensures no smudging of the mascara and that you use the mascara to finish off your look, however if you don't wear eye make up there isn't an issue. When you remove the mascara wand from the tube, never ever do what is called 'pumping the wand' which essentially means pulling the mascara wand in and out of the tube, this is because it allows more air into the tube and eventually dries out your mascara quicker than it would usually happen. So with the wand in your hand, place it right at the base of your eyelashes, at this point your eyes have to be wide open and then Wiggle the wand left to right and I am told that it is this action which helps give the illusion of longer lashes. After you have done one coat, you should repeat the same action moving through the eyelashes weaving in and out of them because it helps to give an equal coverage and then close the eye and apply mascara to the top of the lashes, something I never used to do until Claire told me off and now that I do this I can see the difference because it gives my eyes a better wide awake look and really opens up the eye. Finally, when it comes to the bottom set of lashes, I usually use either a baby wipe or some tissue paper to place it under my eyelashes; this helps me to apply the mascara because I find it much easier to apply the mascara without covering my face with it.
With this Maybelline Lash StilettoTM Ultimate Length WashableMascara it is packaged in a very sleek looking black tube which is thinner at the base and it gradually gets thicker as you reach the top. Clearly displayed on this tube are the words Last and Stiletto written in white letters. To extract the wand is a simple process of twisting the lid and the wand itself is a bright red colour and it is easily coated with the black mascara cream. The wands itself is referred to as the grip and extend brush because all of the bristles upon it are different sizes and are at different angles and the reason for that is to ensure that the brush grasps each lash and coats from every angle and it is really easy to grip and use. After applying the mascara using the tips I have given above I was amazed not to find any clumping towards the end of my eyelashes and that the brush wasn't overloaded with mascara, a problem which I have found with some mascaras. As for giving me the appearance of longer lashes, I have to admit it didn't do that the first time I applied it, but at every attempt afterwards I have noticed that my lashes do look longer, although I know that it is impossible that they are longer, appearance in this case is deceptive but it works and in my view lives up to its marketed expectation.
When it came to removing the mascara from my eyelashes I found it very easy to do and it was removed very quickly using my usual make-up remover and there was no visible signs that I had actually wore any mascara. When it comes to its lasting ability I was impressed that I didn't need to re-apply this mascara during the day time and if I am honest you don't really need to apply it in an evening either, unless of course you are going out and are re-doing your make-up.
When it comes to recommending this product, quite simply I would because it did do what it promised to do and my eyelashes did appear to be much longer and it has been a long time since I have found a mascara that I am truly happy with as a person and feel confident in it doing what it says and for £7 it is a bargain.
