Advantages: Works well, new product, does exactly what it says
Disadvantages: None
I have been and probably always will be a hoarder, I hoard everything and hate throwing anything away and my own star sign (Cancerian) states that "The crab's large claws hang on to its possessions for dear life, just as the Cancerian collects things they keep them". So with that in mind it does pain me to throw things away, even if I buy things I don't intend to use, being an impulse shopper this happens a lot.
One of the things I cannot live without or leave the house without wearing is mascara, I feel almost naked with it. Having bright blue eyes, it is one of the features a lot of people notice about me first, they may not be my biggest feature (minds out of the gutter please) but with your eyes you can change the way you look dramatically. However when it comes to mascara, other than BeneFit Bad Gal Lash I have never really found a mascara which to me does exactly what the adverts are telling me it does, many of them have their clever marketed campaigns which make you want to make that purchase but seldom few for me have ever lived up to expectations... until now!
Maybelline is itself a huge make-up brand and when it comes to mascara they have a massive range to choose from whether it is curved brush mascaras, waterproof mascaras, Colossal Lash mascara you name it they have it and along with it is a catchy name. The latest mascara to come from Maybelline is aptly named "Lash StilettoTM Ultimate Length Washable Mascara" which comes in three different colours - Soft Black, Very Black and Brownish Black and it retails currently for around £7. The reason I bought this mascara was because I found the television advert so appealing and because I am a big fan of Maybelline as a brand, it is always kept quite simple in its design and the idea behind what it does is also a simple message. As for the claims well I thought it was very clever stating that this mascara is "The only mascara that does for lashes what stilettos do for legs" which essentially means makes them appear longer. It doesn't promise that it will do that, it is a simple statement.
For me when it comes to applying mascara I have learnt one or two simple tricks from a make-up artist friend of mine which I found very useful. I am by no means an expert and infact for someone who loves cosmetics so much my knowledge in this area is actually quite shameful; however the application of mascara I can just about manage. Firstly, before applying anything it is always good to make sure that you have removed all trace of previous applications of mascara and that you have done your eye make-up how you want it prior to applying your mascara, that ensures no smudging of the mascara and that you use the mascara to finish off your look, however if you don't wear eye make up there isn't an issue. When you remove the mascara wand from the tube, never ever do what is called 'pumping the wand' which essentially means pulling the mascara wand in and out of the tube, this is because it allows more air into the tube and eventually dries out your mascara quicker than it would usually happen. So with the wand in your hand, place it right at the base of your eyelashes, at this point your eyes have to be wide open and then Wiggle the wand left to right and I am told that it is this action which helps give the illusion of longer lashes. After you have done one coat, you should repeat the same action moving through the eyelashes weaving in and out of them because it helps to give an equal coverage and then close the eye and apply mascara to the top of the lashes, something I never used to do until Claire told me off and now that I do this I can see the difference because it gives my eyes a better wide awake look and really opens up the eye. Finally, when it comes to the bottom set of lashes, I usually use either a baby wipe or some tissue paper to place it under my eyelashes; this helps me to apply the mascara because I find it much easier to apply the mascara without covering my face with it.
With this Maybelline Lash StilettoTM Ultimate Length WashableMascara it is packaged in a very sleek looking black tube which is thinner at the base and it gradually gets thicker as you reach the top. Clearly displayed on this tube are the words Last and Stiletto written in white letters. To extract the wand is a simple process of twisting the lid and the wand itself is a bright red colour and it is easily coated with the black mascara cream. The wands itself is referred to as the grip and extend brush because all of the bristles upon it are different sizes and are at different angles and the reason for that is to ensure that the brush grasps each lash and coats from every angle and it is really easy to grip and use. After applying the mascara using the tips I have given above I was amazed not to find any clumping towards the end of my eyelashes and that the brush wasn't overloaded with mascara, a problem which I have found with some mascaras. As for giving me the appearance of longer lashes, I have to admit it didn't do that the first time I applied it, but at every attempt afterwards I have noticed that my lashes do look longer, although I know that it is impossible that they are longer, appearance in this case is deceptive but it works and in my view lives up to its marketed expectation.
When it came to removing the mascara from my eyelashes I found it very easy to do and it was removed very quickly using my usual make-up remover and there was no visible signs that I had actually wore any mascara. When it comes to its lasting ability I was impressed that I didn't need to re-apply this mascara during the day time and if I am honest you don't really need to apply it in an evening either, unless of course you are going out and are re-doing your make-up.
When it comes to recommending this product, quite simply I would because it did do what it promised to do and my eyelashes did appear to be much longer and it has been a long time since I have found a mascara that I am truly happy with as a person and feel confident in it doing what it says and for £7 it is a bargain.
Summary: The only mascara that does for lashes what stilettos do for legs
