I was in Superdrug not long ago when I realised that my favourite mascara by Maybe line 'Colossal Volume' was out of stock. I wasn't going to leave empty handed however and as I was in a rush I quickly grabbed what I thought would be the next best thing in the Maybelline range, Maybelline Lash Stylist. I was int hat much of a rush that I didn't have time to read much about it on the packet but I was surprised to find that it was a comb brush instead of a bristle brush, something that I'm not too familiar with but I was intrigued to see what the effects would be life, whether they would make my lashes look longer, thicker or more noticeable in any way! The mascara comes in a black tube with silver writing on and contains 6.5ml of mascara inside. The product claims to 'lift volume'. I was a little uncertain of how to really apply using the comb. It seems a little more accuracy is required as opposed to the ease of using a bristle style brush where any side of it can be used and you can twirl the handle in your fingers whilst you apply. With this you had to make sure the combed side was always being used properly otherwise clumps would occur. I generally found this process to take quite a lot longer than it would have done with a bristle brush but that was perhaps because I'm just not used to this applicator. The mascara goes on the comb nicely and after a couple of attempts over a few days I found I got a lot better with the application of the comb. My lashes did look quite long and pronounced but I still wasn't completely certain about the comb. The Maybelline website claims that this comb separates the lashes and to a degree I think it does do that more so than a brush would just because of the segregation of the comb shaped applicator. However, I did sort of see longer lashes but not necessarily much thicker or noticeable lashes which it what I aim for. I bought this mascara in Black but it can also be found in brown for possibly a more natural look for daytime. This product retails at around £7, however you can find it on websites such as www.chemistdirect.co.uk for £4.99 and Amazon also stock it. Maybelline also run a deal in stores such as Superdrug and Boots in which if you buy 2 products in the range you get a 3rd free. I would recommend this product to anyone who already uses comb mascaras or would fancy trying a comb mascara to achieve a different look. I struggled using this type of mascara because I really only use bristle brush ones but I would give this product another try at some point.
This may well be a pretty rubbish review, as I'm feeling lazy and have two exams tomorrow, so I should really be revising. Sorry! Overview This Maybelline mascara comes in a blister pack with a cardboard backing, and is quite average packaging. I use the waterproof version of the product which is pretty much in the same bottle as the regular, only the test is in shiny blue rather than silver. The mascara itself is very black, and comes with a comb applicator rather than a normal brush. Advantages This is my favourite mascara, seriously. And I've tried a lot. It makes my lashes very long (which is a really difficult thing to do, trust me) and very thick, and the comb is good as it deposits lots of mascara right at the base, giving a very dark lashline. You don't need to re-dip the brush, which is good as it means less air gets pumped in and it takes longer to dry out. The waterproof version also stays on very well; there's no smudging or flaking at all during the day, and the bottle itself lasts a long while too. The blister pack is very hygenic, as unlike with Rimmel mascaras, you can be sure the product has not already been opened. Disadvantages One huge disadvantage: this mascara has been discontinued! I have no idea why, I thought it was Maybelline's best mascara. So, I buy it off ebay now, there's always somebody selling it. Also, the waterproof version is extremely hard to get off my eyelashes, I literally have to melt it off (and I wonder why my lashes are so stumpy ...) with heated eyelash curlers. And finally, lots of people seem to have problems with it depositing too much mascara on their eyelashes. I don't mind, I prefer a more dramatic look :)
While browsing in my local Boots some months back I spotted a reduced tray of make-up. Rummaging around I found a Maybelline Lash Stylist waterproof Mascara in Black. As it was only £2.00, I grabbed it quick as it seemed that word had got about and the hordes of bargain hunting women were charging towards me!. Making a quick exist before it could be snatched from my hand I headed back home feeling quite pleased with myself.Well I'm one of those people that can't open a new mascara until I have finished up my old one, as I used to do this all the time years ago and then would end up with several all opened and after a couple of months end up binning them all as they had dried up or gone off. Now this bargain could not have come at a better time as I usually wear Benefits Waterproof Mascara and at £14.50 a go I thought that I should try some others as this is a lot of money and my one was getting quite low. In the usual packaging with it's cardboard back and plastic bubble on the front containing the mascara, I started my fight to get the mascara out of the packaging, I finally had it in my hand , well it looks quite nice on the outside in a black shiny plastic casing, with shiny blue writting on the front. When I grabbed this I only looked for two things and that was waterproof and the colour had to be black. I have to have waterproof as in the winter my eyes seem to water at the slightest thing and I don't want to go round the shops looking like a panda, so waterproof it is. Now the one thing I liked about the Benefit one was that even when applied with several coats your eyelashes never felt hard and stiff like other waterproof mascaras seem to do, so I was hoping that this wouldn't be to bad otherwise I would end up each night pulling my eyelashes out!!. Well what I missed on the packaging was that this mascara does not have a brush but a comb( in fact it say's Volume Lifting Comb Mascara), so let the fun begin, after appling my eye shadow and eyeliner I unscrewed the mascara and pulled it out. Out came a slightly curved brush with a tiny little comb on the end, I applied this to my lashes and it felt strange after being used to using a thick brush (especially after using Bad Gal Mascara which has a huge brush!.... I use this in the summer). At first I thought no I don't like this as it seemed very thin on going on as being a comb you can't really overload it. After several uses I got used to it and now really love it. The comb coats each lash individually and you can even get right into the corner of the eye. If left to dry and reapplied it gives a lovely even thick colour, and is very waterproof as I have had to find out over the last few months. As for the texture at the end of the day, I would say that it does go slighty hard on the lashes, but nothing like some of the others I have used in the past. To remove this you will need to use an eye make-up remover of some kind, be it pads or liquid. I use No7 eye make-up remover which does a fantastic job of getting rid of every bit of this mascara. If for some reason you don't remove your make-up at night ( naughty !) then when trying to reapply the next day it can be a bit difficult as it catches on the old mascara and you don't get a nice clean finish, it will look lumpy. I find this to be the next best mascara to the benefits one and if I had to choose I really am not sure what one I would choose as I have now got used to handling the comb instead of a brush wand (the other day being lazy I grabbed my daughters mascara which is a brush wand and it seemed so thick and cumbersome I ended with it on the top of my eyelids not a good look I can tell you! as it seems easier to manourve over the lashes. This mascara holds 6.5ml and I believe sells for around £6-£7 in most chemists, with so many new mascaras coming out every month it can work out to be an expensive item, so I'm glad I got to try this at a good price. 5 stars

This volume lifting mascara with a V shaped comb and smooth formula gathers and lifts lashes, for up-to a 60% lash lift! The special V shaped comb holds more product to help build the bolder lash look, and the comb also have wide teeth with gathers lashes into a thicker group. The special comb also separates as it combs for volume without any clumps. This is available in a waterproof and none waterproof formula. This is only available in Black! ***PUTTING IT TO THE TEST*** The mascara itself is in a black tube with a screw lid and has lash stylist on the side of the tube in silver writing. The mascara is actually packaged into a cardboard backing which gives you more information about the product. Simply unscrew the lid and the comb slides out easily, with plenty of product in the comb. You can see the comb is V shaped and I was very eager to put this to the test. I did use eye-lash curlers on my eyes before using the mascara to make them look even more lifted. Just simply sweep the lash styler from base to tip for a bold, volume look. Keep applying coats to make your lashes look even bolder and glam. For best results don't let the product dry in between coats, its best to do this whilst the coats are still wet. This was very easy to use and I only needed about 2 coats to achieve a bold and lifted look on my lashes. I was very pleased with the results and my eye's looked fantastic. This not only made my lashes bolder and look more lifted but it also made my eyes look wider and more awake as well This is definitely one of the best mascara's I have tried in a very long time and one which I will stick with. I haven't used the waterproof mascara, but the non-waterproof mascara was fairly easy to use and was easily removed with a make up wipe. ***AVALIABILITY/PRICE*** They do this is boots and in Superdrug for about £6.99. I don't mind paying this for mascara as it definitely does what it says on the packaging, unlike some mascara's which seem to have little effect even though you spend a fortune on them! ***RECOMMENDED*** This is a great mascara which definitely achieves bold and lifted lashes. It does also state on the packet that is it suitable for contact lenses wearers as well which is great. I have been suing this mascara for the past few years and am always very pleased with the results. Of course depending on how much you sue it, depends on how long the product lasts but this does last a good month and sometimes even longer. I tend to buy a new one of these every month or every 2 months depending on how often I use it. I would highly recommend this as I think its well worth the money and does exactly what is says!
One of d best mascaras I have used. I have already v long lashes and Maybelline Lash Stylist define them perfectly. It's one of my favourites. If you have long lashes, LASH STYLIST is recommended to you.
Ive use maybelline mascara for years now but until now have been a "lash discovery" girl, I loved the mini brush and never had a problem with it, unfortunately I cant find it anymore so guess its out of production. Anyway having come to the end of my "lash discovery" I needed a replacement, after a lot of searching and rejecting types because their brushes were too thick I decided to try "lash stylist" with the hopes that the comb would have a similar effect as the mini brush. I chose the black version in waterproof, I would have preferred brown but that wasnt available in the water proof option at the time of purchase. APPEARENCE/PACKAGING The mascara comes in a plastic blister on a card backing, the card has application instructions, ingredients etc on the back. The front illustrates the brush, the effect it should have on the lashes and the colour choice. Appearance wise the mascara tube is quite chunky and black, the waterproof option has metallic blue writing where the non waterproof has silver. The lid unscrews like most other mascara's. Its not huge but isnt as slim as many other mascaras are and will need a reasonable amount of space in the make up bag. The comb is made up of 2 rows of teeth and are set at angles, not parallel to each other. I suppose you could say the chunkiness may be a good thing allowing for the tube to hold more mascara. ADVISED APPLICATION- Sweep the Lash Styler from base to tip to style lashes with sculpted volume and lift. Keep applying additional coats to take lashes from everyday to glam. Do not let product dry between coats - just keep styling! WHAT MAYBELLINE CLAIM- Style your way to our hottest lash look, direct from New York City The bold, open-eyed look! V-Shaped Lash Styler and silky-smooth formula gather and lift lashes for super thick lashes with up to 65% lash lift! V-shaped reservoir holds a lot of product to help build a bolder lash look Wide teeth gather lashes into thicker groups. Separates lashes as it combs for maximum volume without clumps The reality- my lashes neither felt silky smooth or clump free and I was happy to stick with my current liner and remover rather than pay out even more. TEETHING PROBLEMS? My first application didnt go too well, the comb picks up a lot of mascara and made the eyelashes thick and cloggy, even after a lot of brushing there was little improvement, I found my self reaching for the old mini brush in the hopes of being able to remove some of the mascara and tidy the lashes. I also ended up ruining my eye shadow as the mascara ended up on my eyelids too. Eventually after a lot of preening it looked ok, from a distance, get too close and it looked like 2 spiders were living on my face! The lashes felt brittle almost like I could snap them off. It did stay on all day though (well the bits I didnt pick at did) I found it came off quite easily at the end of the day by using Boots eye make up remover pads. ATTEMPT 2-a little more success this time round. after scraping off 99% of the mascara picked up by the comb and using a much lighter hand I had a far better result, still cant get the outer or bottom lashes right though, far less clumping but still a few lashes sticking together. Less aware that i'm wearing it. The lashes still fell waxy though. PANDA EYES- day 3 brought something completely new and partly my fault, after a bad night I was very tired and along with yawning came eye rubbing, this smudged the mascara leaving black smudges under my eyes. Yes my fault as I shouldnt have been rubbing my eyes but it should be able to withstand it, its meant to be water proof after all. THE EXPERIMENTS- The beauty experts will not like this first one but I decided to see how long it would stay on, 2 days and nights it lasted before wearing thin enough for me to feel my own lashes I also decided to check the waterproof claim but as no rain storm was available and only a loon would stand out in one to check their mascara, I threw loads of water over my face, it didnt run as bad as I thought it would but I did have some running, obviously not water proof but water resistant. MY VERDICT I was obviously very spoiled by my lash discovery as I dont find lash stylist mascara nearly as successful as other people I know who use it, while they claim to get good results including the tiny lashes I found the opposite, the small lashes and bottom lashes were hard work with lash stylist, I also dont find the comb all that impressive, its far bulkier than the mini brush and isnt as delicate. This isn't a product for someone looking for the natural look, if you want dramatic 50's/60's glam then it'll be perfect. Retails at £6.99 and available from maybelline stockists in store and online including Superdrug and Boots.
