Advantages: Great coverage, Feels light on the skin, Easy to apply.
Disadvantages: Only available in five shades.
As a die hard user of liquid and creme compact foundations I never thought I'd be interested in mineral foundations, let alone find one with enough coverage for my tastes. But throughout the Summer months I did not like the thick, heavy feeling that my current foundations were giving me just halfway through the day.
I tried using just regular powder foundations but they did not give even enough coverage and I disliked the flat, powdery finish most of them gave.
I decided to try a mineral foundation and headed to a MAC (one of my favourite cosmetic brands) counter to try theirs. The coverage seemed chalky and even the palest shade was not light enough for me (surprise, surprise.) I then tried numerous other brands including Everyday Minerals, Max Factore and Laura Mercier - None of which gave me the effect I wanted and I was about to give up until I tried Maybellines 'Pure Mineral' Foundation.
Available in only five shades I was surprised to find that '02 Rose Ivory' was a perfect match. It contains no talcs or oils, making it suitable for every skin type and claims to give completely flawless coverage with only a lightweight feel. It promises to give a natural, luminous finish that lasts all day with added SPF 15 to help protect the skin from damaging sun rays.
It's packaged in a small plastic jar with a screw top lid. The jar has a sifter inserted inside which is designed to only release a small amount of powder for each use, though I do not find this at all effective since a huge amount of powder is always present. Not really a problem, it just makes application a little more work.
With it comes a small, natural hair kabuki brush which promises to make application easy and problem free, but to be completely honest I found it too small to be effective at all, so quickly started to use my MAC kabuki (#182) instead. With a larger, fuller brush a much softer, even and more blended effect is gained in a much shorter amount of time.
To apply I dip my brush into the powder and tap any excess back into the pot before 'swirling' the brush head into the lid. This ensures that the powder is distributed evenly into the bristles resulting in a more even, splotch free finish.
Applied to cleansed, moisturised and primed skin the result I can achieve with Maybellines 'Pure Minerals' is amazing.
Smooth, glowy skin with a medium+ coverage. My skin looks healthy and fresh, and unlike other foundations I cannot feel it on my skin, nor is it obvious to others.
On me it lasts throughout the entire day (I apply at 7am and remove at around 6pm) needing no touching up, other than a light dusting of MAC's 'Blot Powder' if needed.
My skin is generally blemish free so I cannout vouch as to wether it does really reduce problem skin as promised - though it definately has not caused any problems / breakouts for me :-)
Overall I love this foundation! I would recommend it to anyone after a quick, easy way to achieve flawless skin. It costs just under £10.00 and as you only need a tiny amount per application it really is great value in my opinion.
Summary: Try it!
