Advantages: Works really well on the eyes, easy to use, new concept

Disadvantages: Only available in Black

I have always been told that you can tell a lot about someone from their eyes, my Gran always told me never to trust someone with bushy eyebrows or pupils which were almost black! Bad news for my husband then, I married him! On a serious note, I am a big fan of mascara, it is the one product I never leave the house without and I own dozens of different ones by different companies and brands and amongst my favourite is Bad Lash by BeneFit. After every advertisement featuring a new mascara I am always hopeful that it will fulfill my wish to have eyelashes like the dramatic ones created in that advertisement, even though I know much of it is due to fake eyelashes, however I guess I will be forever on a quest to find the mascara which will give me the fluttery extended eyelash look.

When I saw an advert for Maybelline Pulse Perfection Mascara I was almost through the doors of my local Boots branch before it has finished. Had I finally found my perfect mascara? Pulse Perfection promised to transform each Lash to perfection by using its patented brush motor pulse brush which pulsates over 100 times per second, allowing each Lash to be transformed leaving the eyes surrounded by lashes which had been lengthened and volumised to become the most perfect and luxurious lashes ever! As well as all that it also promises to:

Provide clump free mascara coverage
Add intense colour and shine
Be waterproof
Be contact lens safe

Well it has me sold and the very next day I was into Boots as soon as it opened, luckily it is next to my bus stop for work, and purchased it, whilst it was still on offer for £9 when it now retails for anything between £9 and £12.99.

I am a fan of Maybelline for a make-up range not only because I feel that it is quite reasonably priced but also because it doesn't dry my skin out if I use one of their foundation crèmes or the bronzer which I am now quite partial too. So I am pinning my hopes on this mascara hoping that it wont let me down and that it will live up to the expectations that it has already promised me, the one thing I had never used before was a pulsating mascara wand, so I was quite intrigued as to how that would actually work. With this Maybelline Pulse Perfection Mascara it is only available in black. To look at this 12 mL black tube of mascara has the words 'pulse perfection' displayed clearly in gold writing and on the top is an ordinary looking mascara lid but on top of that lid is also a clear top, it is here that you can see all of the wiring and the accompanying the battery, on looks it certainly wouldn't win any awards for being attractive, far from it, but it does make you look at it whenever you see it in a shop. When it comes to activation you are told from the instructions on the packaging to pull a gold coloured plastic tab which then activates the battery and then it is simply a case of pressing the on button to start the vibration, when you want to stop you remove your finger from this button. As with all mascaras each wand is designed to be quite individual and this one is no different, it is quite a long wand which measures almost the length of the tube within which it sits and whilst the brush itself is long and made of plastic the brush is relatively thin which wasn't something I was expecting, I was expecting to see a big thick mascara brush like the one they designed with Colossal.

Over time I have become quite a dab hand at applying mascara, it is about the only make up take I can perform which doesn't leave me looking like Ronald McDonald. With this mascara when it comes to applying you will need to have removed any trace of mascara that you had worn prior to this application. Then removing the mascara wand from the tube, but do not pump the wand in and out of the tube attempting to add more mascara too it because this allows excess air in to the tube and dries your mascara out much quicker than it would usually happen. So, with the wand in your hand, place it at the base of your eyelashes and then Wiggle the wand left to right like a couple of times to give an equal coverage and then close your eye and apply the mascara to the top of the lashes, something a lot of people forget about and I do this because it gives my eyes a better wide awake look and really opens up the eye and if you ever have a make over it is something they always remind you to do. I used to have many problems when it came to the bottom set of lashes, but I have now conquered this problem after sitting at the BeneFit desk in Debenhams, they showed me that one of the easiest ways of applying mascara to your bottom eyelashes is to place a handkerchief or something such as a baby wipe underneath them to apply the mascara and this helps prevent streaks.

When it came to removing the mascara from my eyelashes I found it very easy to do and it was removed very quickly using my BeneFit eye make-up remover and there was no visible signs that I had actually wore any mascara and it is also waterproof which during the current climate is a blessing because I would be arriving too and from work everyday looking like a panda. Thankfully however this mascara is easy to apply which works in its favour and it is quite a dark black colour on my lashes, much darker than both my Bad lash and Colossal mascaras look. I didn't however see any of the benefits when it came to the volumising effects, whether I ever thought it would work correctly is not something I would feel confident in, but there was no clumping thankfully and it does separate the lashes much easier than previous mascaras and this I suspect is down to the pulsating effects of the brush, although whilst you are using it you cannot actually feel it pulsating around or near to the eye, thankfully! But if you do move it from you eye you can definitely feel the pulsating between your fingers. When applying this mascara I opted to use two coats because for me I felt it gave the better effect, a friend of mine only ever applies one coat because she is olive skinned and has much darker eyelashes than I have.

When it comes to recommending this product, quite simply I would because for me it did everything it had promised to do except volumising, that could have been down to the way I applied the mascara, or because I needed to add another coating to my eyelashes or some other reason I am yet to fathom out. What it does do is add the lengthening effect, it coats the eyelashes perfectly and it is really easy to use, despite the brush being quite thin and finally it easy to remove leaving behind no trace that you had worn mascara in the first place but it is waterproof and rain resistant! The only issue I am not too sure about is how long the battery lasts and if it is replaceable, to date I have been using the mascara on a daily basis and whilst I am nowhere near to running out, the battery is as strong now as it was when I bought the mascara over a month ago, so I suspect it has been designed with that in mind.

Summary: A new lash look Pulse Perfection goes beyond volume & length for a flawless fan of lush, perfect las
