Advantages: None that I can come up with

Disadvantages: Thin, runny, oily

For years I have been happy using Maybelline's Dream Matt Mousse but recently deviated into their Superstay foundation - I did review this and haven't been particularly pleased with it. Just briefly, I'll explain that Superstay has a pump which dispenses two streams of foundation, one white and the other coloured, which you mix (on your face, I presume) to achieve the required look. I found that they didn't dispense evenly, and the whole thing was a bit of a faff! Disappointed by this, I resolved to go back to Mousse.

But this was not to be, as it was out of stock in any colour that would have been reasonably appropriate. Having left it till the last minute to purchase, and therefore having run out of foundation - I had to grab something on the day and this is the one that caught my eye. I've heard a fair bit recently about mineral foundations and thought it was worth a try.

Maybelline's Pure Liquid Mineral Foundation claims to be "breathable foundation for a healthy and flawless look" - sounds good. I chose "Ivory", which is a very pale shade, and in retrospect it was probably too pale, despite my usual winter vampiric countenance. I can wear this in the Mousse range but in this foundation it just seemed too light.

The packaging suggests that this foundation "blends with your skin tone". Despite this being a pretty vague claim, I would argue with it. I found that it doesn't blend much at all, instead it sits on the skin reluctantly, and doesn't provide much coverage at all. If you have any even small blemishes you'd need to use a concealer first. The foundation is quite oily and takes some encouraging to rub into the skin, and then it has a bit of an odd sheen and doesn't look particularly natural at all.

I have been even more disappointed with this one that the last, and am now more determined to purchase Matt Mousse next time, or otherwise I will be trying a foundation by an entirely different manufacturer. One of Maybelline's advantages is their reasonable prices, and if you do want to try it, this item is not too expensive at £7.82 in Boots at the moment. The bottle contains 30ml.

Summary: Not at all what it is cracked up to be!

Shame you didn't like it. I bought it after reading a glowing review of it on here and was very impressed.
