Advantages: Cheap, buildable coverage, nice realistic colours
Disadvantages: I wish the bottle wasn't glass :(
Finding the right foundation for my skin, would be like winning the lottery. A few have come close (Dior's Forever was near perfect until I met my boyfriend - he's badly allergic to it - and, well, it's rather expensive), but none have quite had what it takes to be just right for me.
I had a bad experience or two with Maybelline foundations, about 10 years ago, and I have avoided them ever since (foundations that were fine in the shop, or first thing in the morning, but got steadily darker as the day progressed!).
So, all this in mind, it was with some trepidation that I picked up Maybelline's Pure Liquid Mineral Foundation on Sunday, at Dagenham Market, for £5 (I note it has also been available in Boots for about £5.82, normal price £7.82). The fact that it was very cheap and I was very desperate for something to put on my dreadful discoloured skin made me buy it...
...And, I must say, I couldn't have been happier with it!
First impressions were that it was a bit thin, and it wouldn't give enough coverage for my problem skin. However, I've found the sheerness of the formula means I can apply very little on my good bits, and build up the coverage somewhat on my bad bits, and this is far more subtle than one thick coverage across the whole of my face.
This foundation blends very easily into the skin, and the colour (I chose cameo, as I'm quite pale) looks so natural. Often the pale colours are too pink or too yellow for me, as I'm not really either colour, but this one was just right. It leaves a nice dewy finish, and works well at hiding blemishes in conjunction with my normal concealer. I had no sleep on Sunday night, yet was told how well and "glowing" I was looking Monday morning, so was well chuffed!
The coverage lasts well into the afternoon, I find that I need to blot and blend by about 3pm, but this is normal for my greasy skin. It applies smoothly over moisturised skin, and other products (blusher, concealer) have worked well with it; I've not yet come across any "clashes" of texture.
Sadly, I managed to drop the bottle onto the floor of my kitchen, and smashed it this morning, but I will be running off to Boots on Saturday to grab myself another bottle (Dagenham is a bit far really), so I'm hoping it's at the lower price!! But, I think the standard price of £7.82 is actually very reasonable for a good quality product. It should last ages too, as it is fairly thin, I've found one small pump was enough for my face, including extra for my multitude of blemishes!
Summary: Perhaps I'll stop avoiding the Maybelline stands now...
