Advantages: Not too expensive, transparent bottle
Disadvantages: Can look a bit patchy, not as good as the powder
I have spent enough much money on foundation over the years to consider myself a true foundation connoisseur and just one of my many purchases I have made has been Maybelline Pure liquid mineral foundation. I first bought this after being given a Boots voucher by someone at work and, as I had liked the Maybelline mineral powder foundation, I though I'd give the liquid version a try.
The Bottle
*********
The foundation comes in a see-through bottle with a pump on the top to pump out the liquid. Often, with foundation it's difficult to tell when the bottle is nearly empty but with it's transparent appearance this bottle eliminates the problem.
The bottle is quite small so is easy to store and as you only need a bit of foundation at a time it will last ages. The pump can be a bit temperamental however and one squib can often pump out too much of the product. It can also easily get clogged up so needs washing regularly.
The foundation itself
******************
I have mixed opinions about the results of this make-up. To apply it, I always just moisturise my skin and then, using a foundation brush, sweep it evenly over my face, building up the coverage as I need it.
One of the things that I like best about the foundation is that it feels weightless on the skin and you almost forget that you're wearing it. As it's 'Mineral foundation', it is intended to let skin breathe and doesn't block pores which is a bonus if, like me you suffer from blemish breakouts.
One thing that I don't like about this foundation however is that it seems to stick to any dry areas of the skin giving a patchy, uneven effect. The colour of the make-up can also sometimes look a bit orangey if applied slightly too thickly.
The foundation comes in a range of colours and although mine, called ivory, looks fine most days, I have to make sure not to apply too much to avoid looking tangoed.
The coverage of the foundation isn't too bad, covering most blemishes and redness, although I prefer the coverage of the mineral powder as it appears to be more even.
Price and availability
****************
The product is made by Maybelline and is therefore widely available in many make-up stockists. I bought mine from Boots for £7.82 which although not too expensive, isn't exactly cheap and I'd recommend testing it first to ensure that you like both the colour and texture.
Overall, there are both positives and negatives to this foundation. You really need to test it to find out if it suits your skin but personally, although I like the feel of this make-up, I prefer the powder version.

- 09/11/09 It's a bit rubbish that new types of foundation being invented these days still have the 'orange patches on dry skin' problem! I was wondering how they'd managed to incorporate mineral foundation (which I haven't tried yet) into a liquid - think I'll give it a miss! |
