Advantages: Smooth, cooling sensation. Easy to use, Helped clear my skin.
Disadvantages: Very sheer, Gets shiney throughout the day.
A year or so ago I broke out terribly on one side of my face due to an allergic reaction to a skin care product. Although I avoided makeup alltogether for as long as possible the pimples refused to budge and eventually I had no other choice but to wear foundation. I went on a search for a lighter foundation than usual as I knew my regular ones would be too heavy for my aggravated skin.
I wanted something cheap as I knew I wouldn't have to wear it for too long a period of time and I didn't want to waste money. After a browse around Boots I settled for Maybellines "Pure Water Based Makeup".
This foundation is forumated with 50% water instead of the 'pore clogging oils that can cause breakouts'. It claims to have a 'light, fresh' texture that provides a uniform, shine free finish. It promises to be good to skin, leaving it healthy even after removal.
I can't remember the exact price of this as I purchased it quite some time ago but it was definately under £6.00 and for the 30ml provided that is good value in my opinion. You don't find a foundation for much cheaper than that lately anyway.
It is packaged in a squeezey green tube with a silver screw on lid. Inside there is a small hole which releases a small amount of liquid per squeeze so you don't have to waste any.
The formula is very light and smooth, it feels more like a liquid moisturisier than a foundation which I was pleased about as I needed something that wouldn't dry or cake badly around my blemishes.
To apply I used my fingertips as such a light consistency would only be wasted with a brush. It smooths over the skin lightly with a slight cooling effect. It doesn't have much coverage but I didn't expect anymore, especially since it is 50% water. I just needed something to even out my skintone and it did :-)
It lasts well throughout the day with no transferring but I did find that I needed to blot my skin halfway through the day which never happens with my usual face products, but that's no bother and I would happily do so to reap the benefits of this foundation - mainly the face that is acually cleared my skin!
After only a few days of using "Pure Makeup" almost all the pimples had vanished. I know that my usual, heavier foundations would not have cleared them as they do not let the skin breathe sufficiently. I am also not sure if it would help those with 'naturally' problem skin.
I wasn't a fan on the sheer coverage of this product so a few days later, when my skin had cleared 100% I switched back to my regular foundation without a problem, but I have since reached for this again when I had another period of problem skin. It really does work wonders for me, although it isn't a foundation I would want to have to wear everyday.
Overall it feels lovely and light on the skin, wears well with only a little amount of shine (which is easily blotted away anyway) and I would probably recommend it to those looking for a sheer product to simply even out the tone of their skin and provide them with a fresher, smoother complexion.
Summary: A happy customer :-)
