“ Brand: Maybelline / Type: Lipstick / Subcategory: Lip Colour / Suitable for: Lip „
I normally buy the 18hr Maybelline but it has been getting more and more difficult to get the Wildberry so opted for the 24hr Maybelline in the same colour. I assume the 18hr one is being replaced with the 24hr hence the lack of colours easily available in the 18hr.
The automatic thought would be 'well if this stays on longer what does it matter?'
I bought mine from Amazon for £5.99. That was the cheapest I could find for the colour Wildberry.
Firstly it came in a quite nice clear plastic outer cover/ box. All very nice but personally I'd rather have the lipstick cheaper and no box.
Apart from that it is much the same as all the other versions i.e. 12hr, 14hr, 18hr lipstick.
I noticed that the applicator sponge end was different and slightly longer and more bendy. I haven't found this to be a good thing as it bends more when applying so not as precise.
The actual lipstick seems slightly thicker. Again I haven't found this to be a good thing as the thicker you apply this the more rubbery it is and it is not a good look. You tend to get an outline around you lips which is not flattering and difficult to remove.
Does it stay on? Well yes and no. It does stay on but it doesn't look the same as when you first apply it so it doesn't look fresh. You either end up with it missing in patches on the lips or around the edges. And it does transfer when first applied.
The same old problem of not being able to get all the lipstick out of the tube still applies. Why don't they make the tube a different shape so you can use it all? I end up cutting open the tube and then using the bit in the bottom up then the huge wasted amount in the top bit. Bad design probably so we just end up buying a new one. I am in the process of trying out storing the leftovers in a tiny cleaned moisturiser jar to see if it is more usable than loads of cut up tubes.
Saying all this I must say that Maybelline is my favourite as I have found some others to be extremely flaky after a short time or you end up with just a rim around your mouth which you don't realise until later.
I don't find it particularly drying to the lips, its easy to put on. Apply it thinly for the best results. You can always add more as they say, and its normally a reasonable price on the internet.
I will continue to use this as its my favourite and I haven't found a better one yet.
I used to go shop from shop looking for a vivid red lipstick, I liked the colour that Christina Aguillera wore in "Candy Man". After a long time of trying different ones and comparing them, I discovered Maybelline through a friend, she liked red and her teeth always looked brilliant white. I used hers and never looked back since. (she had a spare one unused as I wouldnt recommend using somebody elses due to hygiene purposes) It goes on with ease, however I would recommend using a light lip liner first, to outline the lips, as this really does stay on, and if you make any mistakes you can correct it BEFORE you fill in and put the stain on. It doesnt take long to dry, and then has a lip balm to glide on over the colour. fabulous effects. If it helps any, I have it on in my profile pic, and that itself had been on for over 8 hours when that pic was taken, and thats without re applying, I only needed to touch up a little with the balm, to get a shine again.
Brilliant buy, especially when Boots have their offers on or Superdrug do them too.
I have a lot of bright coloured lip sticks and lip glosses now that I love, but none of them seem to last as long as I'd like them to, or come off my lips easily such as when I have a drink and the colour transfers onto the glass. I like them for a night out but I hate always having to reapply it throughout the night and so when I noticed my friend apply a bright red lip colour that didn't seem to budge all night, I had to ask what it was she used, and she told it was a Maybelline 24hr lip colour.
When I was next in Boots I went in search for the lip colour and found it straight away, as there was so many colours to choose from it was hard to miss them!
A lot of the shades available all seemed to be quite similiar with some bright and dark reds and dark pinks. There was nothing similar to a bright pink which is the shade I usually go for, even though the plastic colour charts below the lip colours themselves made out there was. I went to the brightest pink which is shade 240 'plum seduction' first and when I pulled out the tester it was more a red/dark pink colour. I thought it might be too similar to my natural lip colour and so was quite disappointed that this appeared to be the brightest shade available, as there was a lot to choose from. I still decided to try them out by applying a few different colours to my hand to see how it appeared, and after letting the colours dry for a couple of minutes I decided to purchase the shade 'plum seduction' as it appeared brighter on my hand than it did in the tube.
As soon as I got home I wanted to try it out even though I wasn't going anywhere, it does state it lasts for 24 hours on the lips and so I thought it would be a great test if I left it on and woke up in the morning and it was still there, then it really does work.
I applied the lip colour first and it went on quite thick, but I found it wasn't too sticky, unlike a lot of other lip glosses I have used. The colour didn't seem to be noticeably bright or different until a few minutes later when it dried, then it did. I also applied the lip balm that comes with the lip colour after, to ensure the colour stays in place and adds moisture and extra shine to the lips. I really liked the lip balm and it really did make a difference by applying it after applying the lip colour to my lips. If I didn't use the lip balm I'd expect my lips to go dry quite quickly and appear just 'stained' rather than glossy or shiny.
As for the 'lasting colour' when I woke up in the morning and went to get ready, I actually forgot about applying the lip colour the night before until I looked in the mirror and noticed my lips were quite shimmery! I was pleased as it lasted on my lips all night, although the colour wasn't as intense as it was the night before. I then applied it again for that day and it was when I went outside when I really noticed the colour difference on my lips. The colour was actually more of a purple pink than a red pink, but I loved it. You do need to be careful when applying the lip colour itself as after a couple of minutes when it is dry it does become hard to remove, and so if you make a mess it can be difficult to correct it or wipe it off!
I don't mind that you have to wait a couple of minutes for the lip colour to dry before applying the lip balm as it is worth it for the results you get in the end. I also now just apply the lip colour on my lips then do the rest of my make-up and go back to apply the lip balm after, whereas lip gloss or lipstick would usually be the last thing I apply just before I leave.
At first I didn't carry the lip colour around with me because the main reason I purchased this was so that I didn't have to reapply it all the time, however I do now so that I can keep applying the lip balm, which isn't as annoying as you don't necessarily need a mirror to do this.
I do think that by needing to reapply the lip balm but not the actual lip colour a lot it might mean I run out of the balm quicker, but I noticed that Maybelline do sell the same lip balm by itself, and for around £6 if I remember correctly.
I love this lip colour and I am so glad I bought it. I originally bought it for a night out so that i don;t need to keep going and reapplying lip gloss all night, but I have now started wearing this everyday for work as it looks nice with it not being too bright, and lasts all day! I do think 24 hours might be a slight exaggeration as the colour fades for me by then, but my lips so stay quite shimmery. However, I don't actually want this to last for 24 hours exactly, I only need it to work for around 12!
The only downside is that this product is not available in more different colours. There are a lot of colours to choose from, this being the reason why I haven't listed them all in this review, but they are just all so similar to each other. I would not purchase this lip colour online unless you have already seen the shade in person and know what it is like, as I don't think the colours shown on the Boots website is true to how they actually appear. The 'plum seduction' shade I purchased certainly isn't, I wouldn't say it is a light pink at all!
I purchased mine from Boots where they are priced at £8.99 each but are currently in a promotion for 2 for £10. I bought a foundation with mine in the promotion but now wish I got this lip colour in two different shades. I definitely want to try this in more colours and will do when I run out of this shade.
Finally... a lip colour that really does stay put!
I often like to buy new make up products just to treat myself and that's why I purchased this Maybelline lip colour product. It's called 'SuperStay 24 hour Color' and is the newest addiction to Maybelline's SuperStay lip colour range. The product looked new and unusual and promised to give 24 hours of lip colour, a claim I found very interesting and wanted to challenge. I've never used anything like this before but have often wanted a lipstick that was longer lasting and didn't come off on everything my lips touch!
The product looks like a thick pen. It has a bit in the middle which you hold and on each end there is a lid to twist off and reveal two different formulas. On one end is the actual lip colour. There are many shades in this range but I opted for a rich red called 'Red Passion', number 510. The colour is contained in a transparent tube so you can see how much is left. To access the application wand you have to twist the bottle of lip colour. The wand is attached to the central piece which you are left holding. The lip colour applicator wand has a soft spongey tip which is a little longer than it needs to be. It measures approximately 1 1/2 centimetres and really I only ever need to use the very tip of it. The sponge-like texture of the wand means the colour is easily absorbed and can also be squeezed out onto your lips when you apply it.
The other side contains what looks like a lip balm. It's a shiny wax-like substance which works like a lipstick - you can twist the container to make the product pop out. This balm is contained in a white plastic cover so you can easily tell the difference between the two ends of the product.
I was quite confused about this product when I bought it and wasn't sure how to use it properly. It turns out that you have to apply the lip colour first, then allow to dry for two minutes, then use the balm over the top of the lip colour.
The lip colour wand has a slanted edge at the end so it makes the colour easy to apply. It looks glossy and wet at first but dries quite quikly and begins to feel strange and sticky on the lips within 20 seconds of applying. You have to resist the urge to rub your lips together like you would a lipstick as you need to apply this lip colour evenly to get a good result. I find that the colour goes on very thickly and this shade in particular is very strong.
I do not like having to wait two minutes for the lip colour to dry as it feels like forever. You could, I suppose, do other things whilst waiting, but I tend to put my lipstick/gloss on last thing just before going out and about. It does feel frustrating to wait and even at the end of the two minutes my lips feel a little sticky in places and parched and crinkled dry in other places.
It's a real relief to be able to apply the balm as it instantly rehysrates your lips and smoothes them out again. Seriously, without the balm my lips feel like they have been kissing sand dunes and it's an uncomforatble two minutes. The balm makes the lip colour look more shiny and more moist and more like a normal lipstick. It also has a nice peachy fragrance which is pleasant.
When I first applied this product I instantly wanted to try it out so I wiped my lips with my finger - no colour came off. Then I tried drinking out of a glass - no colour came off. Infact the colour was clearly there to stay no matter what I did with my lips! I did not really think about removal of the product until I needed to go out somewhere that day where bright red lipstick was a bit too much and I tried to wash the product off. It wouldn't come off! The balm comes off but the colour doesn't budge! Frantically I read the tube but it said nothing about how to remove. I then had to search online and found on the Maybelline website instructions saying you have to use an oil based cleanser to remove the colour. Even then it's hard going trying to remove the stuff and it comes off in little flaky patches little by little. I thought for a moment I was going to look like Batman's Joker forevermore!
There are some problems with the product. For instance, I have ended up re-applying the balm over the colour so I anticipate using up the balm much more quickly than the lip colour. I don't know if you could substitute this balm with a normal clear lip balm. Another thing is the applciation. You have to be so careful about applying the lip colour because of how fast it can dry. You need to be more precise than you would normally be then, and it's time consuming. I have also found that at the lip colour application stage the product gets onto my teeth quite a bit - this never happens to me normally when I apply a lipstick or gloss. But once it's on your teeth it won't wipe off easily! You need to wipe your teeth with make-up remover! The two minute drying time also seems to take forever and leaves your lips feeling awful - rough, shrivelled and dry.
What's great about the product is that it actually works. Once you've got it on it simply won't come off on anything at all. I admire it's awesome staying power. You need never worry about smeared or patchy colour again. You need never worry about lipstick coming off on anything or anyone. It really does as it promises to and provides 'super stay' colour for 24 hours. You never need to re-apply the lip colour and it doesn't fade. The balm over the lip colour has a high shine and looks sparkly and beautiful. The colour is bold and showy.
I have mixed feelings about the product because whilst it does work brilliantly I find it to be problematic to me in other ways. I would reccommend this to the ladies though and especially if you are maybe having a special day or you don't have the opportunity to keep re-applying your lipstick. Just be aware that application needs to be more careful and is a little more time consuming - and remember to have make-up removal liquid too!

I remember having tried these some years back when it was called something like 12 hour superstay. It seems that year by year the number of house it's supposed to stay on your lips goes up and up as they do release and repackaging year by year.
This, I believe, replaced the 18hour superstay. I was tempted to buy these due to the pretty range of colours availalbe and the fact that they were on a 3 for 2 offer. As they are about £8 each, that is quite helpful. It had been a while since I had bought lipstick so I bought a few shades.
There is probably about 25 shades in the range, they go from nude to pink to purple to red, to orange/brown tones so something to make most people happy I should think.
The lipstick has two parts, once in the liquid colour stain and the other the balm. At one end, you undo the cap by twisting it and out comes a wand. I much prefer wands to the brush style so this was good for me.
Apply a light layer of the colour to your lips and spread out quickly. You don't want to leave it too long and it dries in one place. It's easiest to build the colour if one layer is not enough for you. It's important to get an even spread though as it does not look nice when patchy.
Once that it's dried after about 1 minute, you unsrew the other end and in there is a balm stick. Usually I find a little of the lip stain colour comes off on the balm which shows either that I haven't let it dry for long enough, or, it comes off too easily already. Not sure which.
If you do run out of the included balm, you can buy a replacement or of course just use your normal Vaseline or Carrmex or what not.
So, does the lipstick last 24 hours? No. Was I surprised? No. It does pretty well and stays on for most of the day, just wearing off a little but of course, once you start eating and drinking, it's hard for at least some of it not to come off.
The shades I recommend are Wildberry, beautiful, deep pinkinsh purple, Rose Dust, for a classic pink red colour, Absolute Plus for a more full one red lip and another one which name I forget but it's a soft pink colour very natural.
Ones I cannot recommed are the popular Delicious Pink, looked terribley fake on my fair complexion and Cherry Pie which is a show stopper red but applies terriibly for some reason, (I think some come out thinner than others).
So all in all, a good buy especially on offer but make sure you get a good shade.
