Advantages: Smooth application and a very good even finish

Disadvantages: Colour is a little off, do-it-yourself at home.

Just as the kind people at Dooyoo completed my suggestion for this product my internet connection decided to have a holiday and not work... for two weeks! So apologies to Dooyoo. I did intend to be the first to write the review but my internet had other ideas. Anyhow, I decided to write about Maybelline Superstay Silky Foundation because it is one that has very mixed feelings from me and I am interested in seeing what others have thought and if they agree with my opinion. So here is my belated review.

** WHO ARE MAYBELLINE**
In 1915, T.L. Williams came up with a way for his sister, Maybel (spelt slightly odd I know), to darken her lashes, this was the very beginning of the Maybelline brand. Now the American company is the number one cosmetic brand in the world, which is not really a surprise as they are one of the first cosmetic brands that comes to my mind. I think that most people now recognise the advertising slogan "Maybe she's born with it. Maybe its Maybelline" I find it funny that everyone mimics this in a very bad, high pitched American accent. Or maybe that is just me!
The Maybelline brand creates new and adventurous make-up and they are mainly famous for their colour expertise and being able to match the perfect make-up to any skin tone.

**WHAT IS MAYBELLINE SUPERSTAY SILKY FOUNDATION**
Well, the long name sort of says it all. The company claim that the long-wearing foundation delivers 16 hours of flawless coverage, has a super silky feel and blends in one step. The make-up itself is foundation, which if you don't know, is a pigment of colour that is applied to the face and usually before any other make up. It is use to cover any blemishes and to add a glow to your face, that is if it works right. But all foundations can do different things. It costs £9.99 for 30ml which is a pretty standard price and you can get it from anywhere that sells Maybelline products, I bought mine from Boots.

**WHAT IS IT LIKE TO USE? **
Well, to be honest I like a quick and easy foundation, mainly because I don't have much time in the morning but also because I hate having to fiddle with make up for ages. I am also not one for having to reapply during the day as I think it never looks the same as when you are fresh faced in the morning. So, when I saw this 'Superstay' foundation, I thought 'ohhh go on then, let's give it a go!'. The foundation itself is available in 10 shades; I am quite fair so I chose Ivory which looks fairly pale in the tub. But *WARNING* the colour of the foundation in my opinion is at least 1 shade darker then I would expect and also I found the foundation quite orangey rather then creamy which is a little disappointing. So I have to apply some powder afterwards just to give it a slightly more natural tone.
The product itself has quite an interesting application method, it has a pump so it is really easy to get the foundation out and it has a clear clip lid. Make sure you keep this lid on otherwise the pump gets all clogged up as the foundation dries up and it becomes horrible to use.
The tub itself is actually split into 2 little chambers. In one chamber is the foundation and in the other is what the company call a silk feel extender (in other words a bit of a primer / moisturiser) and this is what makes the product work. When you press the pump a little bit of each compartment comes out. For me, the white cream that is mixed with the foundation lets you apply the product really smoothly and evenly. The foundation is quite thick and without adding the extender would be difficult to apply. Not many foundations work on my skin without leaving orange blobs near the hairline and the neckline but this worked really well as I did not have to spend a lifetime blending in the edges!
As for staying put for 16 hours. No Chance! It really lasts as long as most other foundation, a few hours before it needs touching up. Maybe a little longer if you add powder and bronzer etc. I think 16 hours really is an exaggeration! I did notice that it didn't feel heavy on my face, and unlike some makeup I didn't feel like I was wearing a mask. It didn't completely cover my face and my freckles and moles were still visible (which is a good sign as if you can't see these then in my opinion I am wearing to much makeup!) but it did give me an even looking tone and covered up my small red blemishes. Just what I need! This is not for someone who wants a complete overhaul of their face every morning as the product is not rich enough, but I think it is perfect for some one who wants a sheer matt finish just to even out their complexion and to make that little difference everyday.

** EXTRA ADVICE FROM ME**
Because of the pump action, you can't actually take the lid off to see inside the tub and as it is foundation it tends to colour the sides of the tub and makes it hard to see how much is left. So make sure you have a backup as there is no warning when the foundation runs out and you don't want to end up only half made up!

Definitely make sure you test the colours out before buying. Don't assume that a certain shade will be ok because it resembles the colour of your other foundation. This one comes out quite a bit darker.

** CONCLUSION **
It really did give me a smooth and silky finish, almost as though I was just using a tinted moisturiser. It did not last as long as promised but I didn't really expect it to.

The main selling point with the Superstay is the primer that comes with the foundation, but don't be fooled. You could easily do this yourself my mixing your normal foundation with a bit of your normal face cream or moisturiser and it does exactly the same thing. I also felt that I was only really getting half of what I would get if I bought a normal foundation as half the product is actually just white cream!

No matter what I am an experimenter and once this one has finished I will move on to the next new thing on the market, it had nothing special to make me go and buy it again so this one is probably a 3 star from me! x

Thank you for reading.

Summary: Perfect blend foundation, not very long lasting.

I used primer once and if anything it made my foundation look heavier, I wouldn't try it again. Thanks for the info

Max factor do similar, I had wondered about just using extra foundation too.
