I have tried many different mascaras over the years and I do like Maybellne as they always seem to last a long time without drying out. I bought this Maybelline Volum' Express Lift Up mascara from my local chemist in the sale for just £2.99. It came in three basic colours, black, brown/black and navy and I have it in the black/brown as this suits my colouring the best.
The tube is 7ml and it is a chunky black tube with a screw top which is easy to unscrew. The top can get a bit clogged up as do most mascaras but a quick rinse under the hot tap will sort this out. The brush at the end of the wand is 2½ centimetres long and is curved which makes it easy to use. I have found that there has always been enough mascara on the brush by just taking it out and I haven't needed to pump it before use which can get air in the tube so the mascara dries up quickly.
It has never clumped on my eyelashes even though it is quite a thick mascara and it does a good job of separating the lashes which I think makes them appear more natural. I would say that my lashes do appear more a lot thicker than when I am using others brands. This mascara is hypo-allergenic and fragrance free so should be suitable for most skin types and I find that it removes easily with make up remover or make up wipes, and best of all it is waterproof so it does not run or smudge even at the end of the day.
This is a good quality mascara which makes my eyelashes look thick and long and I would definitely buy it again. i have been using it now for several months and the effect is the same as when I first started to use it so I am very pleased with this mascara and would buy it again.
Mascara is one of the essentials in my make-up bag, as a matter of fact, I would probably not leave my house without any mascara on (perhaps only when taking my daughter swimming). I have few brands that I regularly purchase mascara/make-up from, one of them being Maybeline. I like to use quite a bit of mascara on my eyelashes to make it thick and stand out which normally result in a need to replace it regularly sort of every 6 weeks or so. I was in a need of new mascara recently so I paid a visit into my favourite shop which is of course Boots. I chose this Volum' Express Lift-Up mascara, I haven't had this one before so was keen to try it out but used Maybeline product before and was always happy with it. The price was very reasonable which played part in my decision making. This mascara was the last one available so I thought It must be popular, I have got it in black which suits me just fine.
Mascara comes in quite short chunky black tube with a shiny pink writing on it. I think packaging looks very posh and girly. Name of the product is clearly stated on the tube in big(ish) pink writing and by looking further I notice that this mascara contains 10ml. The brush is slightly curved (but not curved as much as other mascara's I previously had) with thick bristles. I couldn't see what the brush looks like when I brought is as it was packaged in the plastic case but I was very pleased when I opened this mascara. I am not big fan of plastic bristles and like the brush to be thick. Bristles also seem to be the same length unlike most of mascara's I have used before.
Maybeline claims that this mascara will "lift your lashes to new heights with 3x volume". This mascara is also suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lenses wearers.
I don't think I need to go on about how to apply mascara. As mentioned above, brush bristles seems to be the same length which I thought might be a problem when trying to apply to tiny lashes around the corners of my eyes. This was not case though. Mascara perfectly covered all my lashes and I must say that it made them beautiful. This mascara not only add volume to my lashes but makes them longer too. I wear it for 12 hours plus and not notice any mascara falling of my lashes, I just hate to see mascara bits on my cheeks!!! This one stayed on my eyelashes and furthermore didn't smudge (unless you accidentally rub your eyes you might end up with panda eyes). This is not waterproof mascara however it doesn't run for no reason (I haven't been crying yet whilst wearing it so cannot comment further).
***Availability and price***
I purchased it from Boots for very reasonable price of £6.19 which is excellent considering I have paid over £10 for my last mascara. This mascara would be available from other chemist such as Superdrug or maybe big supermarket and definitely on line.
***Would I recommend?***
Definitely. For the price I paid I cannot really complain. It might not be for everybody but certainly good enough for me. Great product for bargain price which makes my lashes beautiful with added volume and lenght.
You may have read my previous reviews on Maybelline mascaras, and if you have you have you'll know that in my opinion Maybelline is the best make of mascaras. I have tried a lot of mascaras over the last few years but since the first time I used a Maybelline mascara I have never used any other brand. I have, however, tried several Maybelline mascaras and have been happy with the results of all of them. My previous mascara was running out a couple of weeks ago so I went to Boots and bought the cheapest Maybelline mascara there, which happened to be this one. It cost me £6.19 for a 10ml tube and is the same price from Superdrug. It's not as cheap as some mascaras but it doesn't break the bank either. I haven't found any other mascara that cheap, that isn't Maybelline, that works nearly as well as Maybelline mascaras do.
This mascara comes in a black tube with shimmery pink writing. it is quite a plain tube and to be honest I really like it. It's simple but elegant, feminine and sexy. When my old mascara ran out I was looking forward to trying this one. I fount the first time that I used it that my eyelashes stuck together a bit and I didn't really like it. However, I was in a rush that day so didn't get time to try to sort it out. The next time I used it my eyelashes stuck together a little again but I managed to sort it out. I've been using it for a few weeks now and don't have the problem with my eyelashes sticking together anymore, so maybe it just took a couple of days for me to get used to the shape of the brush or something. I would say that now i'm used to it, the mascara is very easy to apply. It lasts all day without fail, doesn't smudge and is very easy to remove at the end of the day with just a little bit of eye make up remover.I would say it's no better or no worse than other Maybelline mascaras in general.
I've only been using this mascara for a few weeks but based on how long other Maybelline mascaras have lasted, It will probably last me 4-5 months. I use quite a lot every single day so I think this is a long time and therefore good value for money.
Overall, I really like this mascara and don't have any complaints about it at all. It does what it's supposed to, and is easy to apply and remove. Furthermore, it comes in a pretty tube. What more could you want from a mascara? I would definitely buy this again and I would recommend it to any female. It gets five stars from me.
Believe it or not, I have used mascara since I was 11 years old and most people who know me would know that Im addicted to having long lashes. I buy a new mascara about every 2months or so and ive tried around 20 different types varying from cheap and nasty ones to high end mascaras which have cost me around £35-£40 for one!! Ive even tried a mascara with a vibrating brush of all things!!
I first tried this maybeline mascara when I was around 14 and from the first use, i fell in love with it!! Im quite anal about my eye lashes and it can take around 30mins (with intervals) to do my mascara (shocking, i know!) . Ive attempted to use different mascaras, but this maybeline mascara is always my fail safe option for long, thick eyelashes. I usually buy it for around £5-£5.50 so its really good value for money!! With most mascaras, i find that they dry out really quickly, but this mascara lasts a lot longer than others, in my opinion.
I was surprised to see that the curved brush does actually lift the lashes and the bristles arent too close together so mascara clumps are avoided.
Eventhough I will continue to try various brands of mascaras, i honestly think that this product is one of the best on the market!!
i love this product!! I have never been told anything about my eyelashes until I used this product. Yes you do have to apply it quicky or it will dry up but then again that happens with all waterproof products. And yes it doesn't wipe off too easy but once again people its waterproof, that's its job!!! If you use an eye-makeup remover you will be fine. I would recommend this Maybelline Volume Express for anyone that has thin eyelashes. Oh and it lasts all day while keeping your eyelashes curled up and looking great. I go swimming all the time and this is awesome.. You must have this product!
Over the years, I have tried to get into a routine of buying a new mascara every six months as I have read if you keep using old mascara's you can get eye infections. I'm not sure how true this is, but knowing how unpleasant eye infections are, I try to keep to the six month rule when I remember.
My latest purchase (about two months ago now) was for a Maybelline Volum Express Lift-Up Mascara (not waterproof) in black. I saw this in Boots and paid £5.50 for it, which is about the going rate for Maybelline mascara's (unless you are lucky enough to catch them on offer). I have recently seen you can buy new mascara's on ebay for much cheaper than in the high street retailers, so next time- I am going to try buying them online.
The first thing that struck me about this product is is smells like honey. It is a little odd but not at all unpleasant. I noticed the smell when I unscrewed the top and was using the product and it took me a few days to pin-point the smell, but it is just like a jar of honey!. The brush is quite short, a little stubby looking and very curved.
I like curved brushes as they make the mascara easier to apply. With this product the bristles are quite far apart so it helps you apply the product without your eyelashes all clumping together which is definitely an advantage as there is not a great deal you can do when all your eyelashes start to clump together (other than getting a pair of tweezers and painstakingly trying to separate your lashes!).
With this product, I like the pack - the black and pink colour scheme is cute. The product applies easily but in my opinion, it does not really lengthen your lashes. You have to re-apply the product four or five times to each eye to get a noticeable "i'm wearing mascara" effect- so for this reason, I would not recommend this for a night out. It is more a product for through the day.
As the brush is quite thick and stubby, you need to have cotton buds to hand as I have accidentally brushed the wand against the skin around my eyes on many occasions. I don't have a problem with mascara running or the "panda effect" as I use a very matte base and powders- but this product is not waterproof- and it is easy to get it around your eyes when you apply it. I cannot comment on its smudgeability or if it holds out in the rain- but I would say if you do have problems with mascara running, you should look at waterproof mascara's (which can be a nightmare to remove!).
Overall, I would not say this lives up to its name- the volume it proposes in its name isnt that spectacular. I wouldn't say it particularly lifts your lashes either. You are better off using an eyelash curler to get a lifted lash effect.
For £5.50 there are better mascaras out there- I prefer the Maybelline XXL volume mascara (the one with the white and black dual applicators) which does give you a fake lash effect. But, for through the day use, this will do.
